Multi-Layer Printing Modes, Hp Inc Jul 2021

Multi-Layer Printing Modes, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

One of the applications of printers with white inks is to print on a transparent substrate and cover it

with white, so that the image, printed in mirror image, is seen through the substrate on a white

background. An unmirrored image can be printed on the other side, allowing for an image on both sides

of the substrate. This is referred to as a (three‐layer) sandwich mode.

To reduce translucency, a variation is the five‐layer sandwich mode, in which the middle white layer is

replaced by another sandwich of white, black and white.

Depending on the hardware, in …

Automatically Switching To A Rear-Facing, Wide-Angle Camera When Entering Rear Camera Selfie Mode On A Foldable Mobile Device, Alok Chandel

Defensive Publications Series

This publication describes techniques directed at automatically switching to a rear-facing, wide-angle camera when a user utilizes a “rear selfie mode” on a foldable mobile device (e.g., foldable smartphone). Rear selfie mode and similar modes allow users to take self-portrait photographs (“selfies”) using the rear-facing camera on a foldable mobile device. Foldable mobile devices may utilize a camera with a standard lens by default when the rear selfie mode is entered. Selfies have a limited field of view due to a short camera distance from the user, so a wide-angle camera is desirable when taking selfies. Switching to a wide-angle …

Algorithm To Compensate Skew For Rigid Medias, Hp Inc Jul 2021

Algorithm To Compensate Skew For Rigid Medias, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

The world of printing on rigid materials often demands skew requirements that are difficult to achieve in

non-true flat belt printers. This requirement has its origin in the need of customers to optimize printing

processes, saving post-processing and media waste.

Often, clients must print full bleed or leave blank margins if they want to have an image printed on all

support. Both strategies can be avoided if the printer has a good skew compensation strategy with the

consequent savings for the client.

Total skew on images printed on rigid medias is the sum of three contributors: media orthogonality, media

load …

Scalable Detection And Drill-Down Of Cybersecurity Events, Quentin Truong, Robert Zalog, Benjamin Chang

Defensive Publications Series

Cybersecurity analysts detect malicious activities using rules that process and correlate events from log files. Not every detection necessarily points to malicious activity; rather, a detection can prompt a cybersecurity analyst to drill down into the underlying events to determine if the detection indicates a true attack. The drilling-down of detections is difficult due to the large size of log files, large numbers of detection rules, and the large number of events per detection. This disclosure describes techniques to determine and to display all the events from all detections from any rule in near real-time. A first stage translates cybersecurity …
