The StUMP (Start-Up Metis Print Quality) was originally observed in the Poseidon printer during
early life printing of the Metis black pen. In cases of printing black and color (CMY) together, the
unutilized portion of the Metis die would develop the defect and affect the print swath after long
decap time. This issue worsens with pen age.
StUMP is believed to be the result of an interaction between chemicals that leach out from the
foam and pigment particles in the black ink. This interaction causes the pigment particles to
settle at an accelerated age, and this interaction worsens with time. …

Access to the hardware settings as well as boot sequence and settings related to certain hardware/software functionality of a computer is protected by an access password for the Basic Input/Output Services (BIOS). While a simple and memorable password can help mitigate the risk of password loss, it provides weaker security, especially if the password is reused across multiple machines of a large fleet. This disclosure describes techniques for automated, decentralized management of machine-specific BIOS password using a centrally managed policy file that each machine fetches to determine if the current BIOS password is to be rekeyed. If a BIOS password …

A Crowdsourced Gnss And Ppp Reference Network, Steve Malkos, Frank Van Diggelen
Defensive Publications Series
Due to its requirements for well-positioned base stations and lengthy times-to-first-fix, the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) techniques for decimeter positioning haven't found widespread application in navigation in smartphones. In principle, a global network of PPP base stations can provide decimeter-level accuracy to various positioning applications, including smartphone-based navigation. However, a global network of PPP base stations that can monitor and gather satellite information is expensive to build and maintain. This disclosure describes a crowdsourced, dense, PPP network and ephemeris-coverage map that can enable GNSS chipsets (e.g., utilized in smartphones and other mobile devices) to obtain decimeter-level positioning accuracy.

Touch gestures made on the touchpad of a laptop lack the natural ergonomics of a physical mouse. This disclosure describes techniques that turn an everyday object into a physical mouse. The techniques leverage the presence of dual magnetometers embedded beneath the laptop base, used conventionally to detect the open/close state of the laptop clamshell. An everyday object with a metal component inside such as an earbud case or smartwatch, when placed near the laptop base, nontrivially distorts the dual-magnetometer readings. The readings are decoded into a set of canonical screen movements (slide up, down, left, or right). Diagonal movements are …
