Micro-Loop Free Delivery On The Post-Convergence Path After A Link Change In The Topology, Anonymous
Micro-Loop Free Delivery On The Post-Convergence Path After A Link Change In The Topology, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure provides robust and generalized algorithms that allow prevention of micro-loops directly on the post-convergence path following a link failure (Link down) or upon re-convergence following a newly inserted link in the topology (Link up). Through this solution, if a remote link fails, traffic can leverage emulated local loop-free backup calculations on behalf of the PLR nodes without explicitly redirecting traffic to the PLR and instead directly tunnel traffic to reach the destination directly on the post convergence path (after the link churn) through a loop-free intermediary node (in a loop-free manner) during convergence, thus resulting in minimal to …

Distributed Shader Cache, Doug Horn
Distributed Shader Cache, Doug Horn
Defensive Publications Series
The compile time for shaders for certain graphics APIs can sometimes be unacceptably long. Compilation of shaders during gameplay can, depending on CPU/GPU load, cause awkward rendering pauses (janks) or artifacts in games. This disclosure describes a shader service wherein shaders are pre-compiled for multiple target GPUs and are cached on servers. A game device can download the appropriate pre-compiled, binary shaders from the servers based on various factors such as the version of the game, the model of the user’s GPU, the driver version for that GPU, etc. The described techniques can speed up gameplay by avoiding shader compilation …

The 800 gigabit per second (Gb/s) Ethernet (GE) technology is a new protocol that has been standardized by the Ethernet Technology Consortium. Techniques are presented herein that split an 800GE stream into two 400GE frames (e.g., 400GE-A and 400GE-B) without requiring any mapping. Under aspects of the presented techniques the 32 virtual lanes of the 800GE stream may be grouped into two groups of 16 virtual lanes; both the 400GE-A and 400GE-B links are protected by the Forward Error Correction (FEC) of the 800GE stream; alignment markers (AMs) are inserted according to the 800GE standard; the AM field CM2 is …

Some health management applications and devices include functionality to help remind users to take their pills. However, such reminders often lack relevant detail, such as name and dosage of the specific medication. Further, no mechanisms exist for caregivers to access health-related information of consenting users, e.g., for children to access information of elderly parents, or to remind them of health-related tasks. This disclosure describes techniques that enable a user to receive health-related reminders based on photos of their medication. The notifications can use the voice of their preferred caregivers, such as their adult children. Suitable computer vision and machine learning …

Surfacing Resources For Emotional Support Based On The User’S Inferred State Of Mind, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
Users may issue queries to a virtual assistant, search engine, or other technological interface to seek help when experiencing acute emotional distress. Current approaches surface relevant information, such as the number for a local helpline, that can help connect the users to resources to deal with the matter. Currently, such information is surfaced if a spoken query to a voice-based virtual assistant contains specific trigger words related to mental health and emotional well-being. Such a simplistic approach lacks a nuanced understanding of the user’s context and state of mind when issuing the query. This disclosure describes techniques to infer the …

Hybrid Fingerprint Technique For Iot Asset Classification And Management, Ajith Chandran
Defensive Publications Series
In connection with the classification of different Internet of things (IoT) assets, techniques are presented herein that enhance the classification process through a hybrid approach which utilizes both active monitoring techniques (where different packets are sent to a target and the response from same is compared with a database) and passive monitoring techniques (where a sniffing tool is used to non-intrusively identify a unique signature of a device). Aspects of the presented techniques employ active monitoring during a preliminary stage (to create an initial fingerprint of the network) and later employ passive monitoring (for gathering and calculating observed fingerprints). Such …

As there are several shielding can on the mother board, as shielding can is hard to be installed on the
mother boards. Also shielding can is hard to be assembled by auto mechanical tool, but a bad assemble
will cause more noise leakage from SSD, DDR memory, which will impact system antenna performance
due to bad shielding can assembly, especially the common shielding can in the notebook design is not

In a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) fifth-generation (5G) virtualized radio access network (vRAN) architecture, a shared cell consists of one distributed unit (DU) instance and a group of radio units (RUs) sharing the same radio frequency (RF) parameters. Such a group of RUs act as a single cell, covering a large contiguous area in a way that is not possible with a single RU thus significantly improving the signal strength and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the users that are in the overlapped coverage regions of the multiple RUs. While a shared cell approach addresses coverage problems with limited …

With the integration of SD-WAN and third-party SIG, all the traffic from the enterprise client's is forwarded to the SIG over the tunnel. The SD-WAN router at branch office is connected to the SIG over WAN link. Hence there are always bandwidth (aka throughput capacity) limitations for the traffic being routed over the tunnel. For the same reason, service providers would enforce limitations on throughput capacity per tunnel basis. In view of this fact, the effective usage of the link between SD-WAN router and SIG is essential. Also, SD-WAN has enabled customers to prioritize cloud applications and deliver better application …

Early Determination Of Emergency Call Retry On Roaming Network, Edison Chen, Gary Tsao
Defensive Publications Series
To enhance reliability for emergency calls, if a user dials an emergency call center (ECC) and there is no available ECC service in the user equipment (UE), many UEs will scan and rescan available cell service frequencies for ECC request support. However, much of this rescanning is redundant or unprioritized. By eliminating aspects of redundant scanning based on prior scan results, and/or prioritizing certain known frequencies for additional scans based on prior scan results, both ECC request reliability and UE power consumption is improved.

A user equipment (UE) can experience a server-identifier failure, wherein a network fails to provide the UE with one or more server addresses required by the UE to access network services. To reduce the impact of such a server-identifier failure, the UE can maintain a local database of previously received server identifiers. In response to a server-identifier failure, the UE uses the database to identify and communicate with the corresponding server via the network. The UE is thereby able to access network services, such as DNS services or SMS services, in the event of a server-identifier failure, thereby improving the …

Defensive Publications Series
Books when digitized into the electronic form as images make them efficient to store and can be made accessible to people all over the world via the internet. Scanning book images is one of the most popular way of book digitization. However, scanning introduces several distortions to the book image like shading distortion, border noise, and geometric distortion. These distortions hamper the performance of OCR processing (character recognition/ identification). Therefore, it is important to improve the quality of book scans.
