Dynamic Adjustment Of Display Luminance To Reduce Fingerprint Scanner Latency, Shiyong Li, Jyothi Karri
Defensive Publications Series
Optical under display fingerprint scanners (UDFPS) are used for user authentication. The device screen provides illumination to UDFPS when capturing fingerprints through local high brightness mode (LHBM). However, on device screens that suffer from first frame dimming (FFD), this causes latency in reaching the target luminance required to accurately capture the fingerprint. Further, the latency may vary with the initial image being displayed on the screen or other factors such as ambient light, display brightness setting, etc. when the fingerprint authentication process is initiated. This disclosure describes techniques to dynamically apply different levels of compensation to the screen depending on …

Author-Specific Prefix-Tuning For Personalization Of Large Language Models, Elizabeth A Hutton
Defensive Publications Series
This article outlines a novel approach to the personalization of large language model (LLM) outputs to an individual writer in an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted writing application without the need for fine-tuning or prompt-engineering. With this approach, an individual’s writing style may be encoded through a compact, learned model which maps writing samples to an "author-embedding" which may be prepended to the input of an LLM (in the manner of prefix-tuning) to steer the model to generate content in the writing style of that individual. The presented techniques involve several processing steps, including the selection of an optimal subset of an …

Standard Virtual Extensible Local Area Network (VXLAN) headers do not provide the space to carry policy information from ingress Network Virtual Ethernet (NVE) devices to egress NVE devices. The option to provide the bits/bytes to carry this information is provided with different header formats, however, some bases are unable to parse these other frame formats. According to techniques described herein, group-based policies may be implemented over standard VXLAN overlays, thereby eliminating the cost of implementing custom protocol modifications and helping data center customers by remaining with their existing fabrics without costly upgrades.

Subvocal speech occurs while someone reads a book or talks to oneself or murmurs. Unlike whispering where closer ones can hear speech, such voices cannot be heard by others nearby. Subvocal speech recognition is usually done with electromyograms (EMG) that are unique for each speaker. EMG electrodes are placed on the neck and facial muscles to record muscle activations while making subvocal speech. In addition, EEG electrodes can also be placed on the head to capture electrical signals generated by the brain when subvocal speech has been made. These electrical signals can then be interpreted using signal processing techniques for …

Wind Noise Mitigation Via Dynamic Microphone Selection, Syavosh Zadissa, Gongqiang Yu, Xiaoxue Li
Defensive Publications Series
A recent study of wind noise data suggests wind noise suppression (WNS) algorithms face the largest challenge from wind noise coming from right in front of the user. As a result, the audio quality as a result is significantly worse than all other directions. This study also shows the wind noise does not contaminate all the mics equally, due to the shape of the mic array. Assuming we have some mechanism to detect the most contaminated mics and exclude them from beamforming, the output audio would be significantly improved. Therefore, we created a strategy for an audio system to handle …

An Adaptive Method For Improving Wi-Fi 6g Long-Distance Transmission, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
In this disclosure, we propose an adaptive method to improve Wi-Fi 6G long-distance transmission. The purpose is to solve the issue that although Client device still can receive packets from AP, the AP cannot receive ACK from Client device and causing connectivity issues. The issue root cause is power gap between AP and Client device. In order to meet 6G certification requirement, we dynamically adjust power spectrum density of specific OFDM(A) subcarrier(s) instead of directly increase power value. With this method, we can enhance Client 6G ACK performance and improve Wi-Fi 6G long-distance transmission.
