General Multi-Channel Input Video Support For Video Encoding, Danny Hong, Deb Mukherjee
Defensive Publications Series
Traditional video coding standards process video frames in the YCbCr color format, with a single luminance channel (Y) and two chroma channels (Cb, Cr). There is a strong correlation between the three channels that can enable efficient encoding and good compression, since decisions such as motion estimation and block partitioning can be made once for the Y plane and applied to the chroma channels. Also, subsampling can be used to reduce the resolution of the chroma planes. However, these standards are unable to efficiently encode additional data such as depth, alpha, velocity, etc. that is needed for immersive applications such …

Grounding Design To Prevent Electrostatic Accumulation In Foldable Displays, Jaewon Choi, Chang Ju Kang, Tseng Chun
Defensive Publications Series
In traditional polymer organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) displays, electrostatic charge buildup can occur near the edge of the display, leading to abnormalities such as green flashes, vertical crosstalk, or a greenish display. To mitigate this problem, a discharge path is established to release electrostatic charges by using silver dotting on the edge of the display that connects to a conductive black matrix and provides a grounding path. However, for foldable displays, the silver dotting can crack due to the movement and sliding of different layers as the device is folded and unfolded, causing disconnection from ground. This disclosure describes …

Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes techniques of simplified, prefix-based, bucket-access management. Buckets are created with prefixes that uniquely identify buckets belonging to the same project or access-control group. For easier access management, the name of the resource provided by the user is prepended with a multi-character prefix followed by a hyphen to obtain the name of the underlying bucket in the object storage backend. Prefix-based access enables different access types to be defined for each namespace. The list of generated prefixes is stored centrally as a resource, thus avoiding data leaks via leaky permissions. From a user and organizational standpoint, prefix-based access …
