Techniques are presented herein that support a carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq) adjustment factor that may be applied during the design and deployment of a networking device in, for example, a data center environment. Such an adjustment factor may consider the impact of altitude or elevation on, among other things, power consumption, cooling requirements, heat dissipation, and other related environmental design-impacting considerations.

Network Controller Behavior For Scaling Performance Measurement Solutions, Clarence Filsfils, Pablo Camarillo, Ahmed Abdelsalam, Sonia Ben Ayed, Rakesh Gandhi
Defensive Publications Series
Performance measurement solutions typically probe a network to detect service degradation within the network. Measurements between two nodes in the network (typically referred to as nodes 'P' and 'Q') are often performed using a measurement session created on P that generates probe packets towards Q. However, there is often limited capacity for the number of performance measurement sessions that can be created for network devices. In order to address such issues, this proposal provides techniques through which the most critical (P, Q) that should be measured for a network can be determined. A network controller can learn a next hop …

Testing, including user interface testing and A/B testing is an important part of application development. It can be difficult for human testers to write appropriate test assertions or checks for user interface tests. Human testing is costly and not scalable. This disclosure describes the use of a large language model (LLM) to automate testing for software applications, including UI tests, A/B tests, and simulating manual QA tests. A dataset of prior known errors in the UI rendering is constructed and labels are associated with different types of errors. Prompt engineering is carried out to develop a library of prompts that, …

Virtual assistant applications, e.g., that are utilized in a smart home context, rely on a combination of natural language processing (NLP) and commands, without specific understanding of user preferences in a flexible manner. There are limits to what can be learned by/ acted on by a virtual assistant based on a predefined trait that is decided a priori. This disclosure describes the use of a large language model (LLM) to enable a virtual assistant in a home context to have memory and the ability to learn and act on unstructured data about occupants in the home, their preferences, usage patterns, …

Highly Available Te Path Management For Delegated Paths Across Multiple Pces Without East-West Communication Between Pces, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to Traffic Engineering path management with Path Computation Elements (PCEs). Specifically, we allow TE paths to stay in a PCE throughout the entire TE path lifecycle. There is a new “controlling” setting to determine whether the PCE is active for that TE path, allowing the PCE to keep the TE path in its inventory even when it does not have control of the TE path. This uses existing work in the Path Computation Client (PCC) to determine its active and backup PCE by listening to what the PCE Protocol (PCEP) says about delegation of the various …

A Novel Framework To Facilitate Mass-Scale Mobile Network Upgrades, Navdeep Sood, Praveen Kumar
Defensive Publications Series
Network upgrades in mass-scale mobile network environments can be very cumbersome and typically involve a network operator creating a unique upgrade plan to execute, which can be costly and time consuming. In order to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of mobile network upgrades and also provide improved service assurance with the least risk of service disruptions, a machine learning (ML) based mathematical model is proposed herein to provide upgrade clustering that can be utilized to facilitate mobile network upgrades.

Techniques To Expose Qr Code Metadata With Security Insights, Suresh Gopathy, Gajendar Pandey
Defensive Publications Series
Today, when a user receives a quick-response (QR) code in a messaging channel (e.g., email, chat), there is no information visible in the QR code to enable the user to make an informed decision about whether or not to scan the QR code. Rather, to read the content of a QR code, the user needs to use a secondary device (such as a smartphone) equipped with a QR code scanner/camera or a secondary application on a personal computer (PC) or laptop, which can expose the user to unsolicited information and possible threats. Presented herein are techniques through which metadata associated …

In online payment systems that link a bank account of a user to a payment identifier such as a mobile number, the bank account can be used only by the user associated with the payment identifier. Since linking multiple payment identifiers to the same bank account is not supported, it is necessary that a separate account and payment identifier be set up for each person of a group such as a family, or to use cash or other payment mechanisms which are less convenient. This disclosure describes techniques that enable a primary user of a bank account linked to a …

Hybrid Sparse-Dense Embedding Search, Eric Stavarache, Felix Weissenberger
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes techniques of information retrieval from text-based corpuses by combining dense and sparse embeddings into a single, composite, dense embedding. Documents from the corpus most relevant to a user query can be found by using the composite dense embedding to natively run nearest-neighbor searches using existing tools. The techniques retain information from both sparse and dense embeddings and provide a straightforward, mathematically sound way of combining them. The composite dense embedding, when used in retrieving information in response to a user query, performs well even when the query includes a proper name or a rare term, and can …

Present disclosure the present disclosure is directed to secure computation and data encryption. In particular, the present disclosure is directed to secure computation that enables computation while keeping data encrypted. More particularly, the present disclosure is directed to a secure protocol that can merge two encrypted lists given that they are ordered. In a modern data analysis process, data is transferred to, stored in, and computed by a server. During these three processes, encryption protects the data when it is transferred and stored.
Improving Image Capture Quality Of Under-Display Cameras By Reducing Diffraction, Chen Cheng Lee
Improving Image Capture Quality Of Under-Display Cameras By Reducing Diffraction, Chen Cheng Lee
Defensive Publications Series
Under-display cameras (UDCs) beneath organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays can suffer from poor image quality due to the diffraction of light caused by periodic pixel structures of the OLED display. This disclosure describes the use of techniques inspired by confocal microscopy to reduce the diffraction of light passing through an OLED display to improve the quality of images captured by an under-display camera. Diffracted or scattered light, which tends to blur the captured image, is blocked by placing an array of pinholes or a panel of louvers in front of the image sensor. Effective light is separated from diffracted light …

Customer-created objects in cloud storage buckets are stored in a flat namespace and lack the hierarchy found in folders of a traditional file system. While grouped permissions are straightforward in a file system, such permissions are relatively difficult to implement in storage systems with flat namespaces, where policies can be applied at no finer a granularity than the level of the bucket. This disclosure describes a mechanism for applying a policy to a group of objects in a storage bucket based on the prefix of the objects. Customers can identify a prefix of the object path that ends in slash …
