Guardrail Shadow Effects In Retrieval-Augmented Systems (Safety Layers Distorting Rag Outputs), Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Mar 2026

Guardrail Shadow Effects In Retrieval-Augmented Systems (Safety Layers Distorting Rag Outputs), Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems are designed to anchor large language models in verified evidence. In controlled settings, retrieval improves factual accuracy and reduces hallucination risk. In production environments, however, an under-examined failure mode is emerging. Stacked safety layers surrounding the generation stage can subtly distort how retrieved evidence is expressed, resulting in answers that remain compliant but become diluted, hedged, or operationally weakened. This paper defines this phenomenon as the Guardrail Shadow Effect (GSE). The proposed framework introduces the Shadow Impact Score (SIS) to quantify when high-quality retrieved context fails to translate into proportionate answer strength. Rather than auditing safety …

Wise's Positronic Law: Governance Is Inherent To Computation And Substrate-Independent In Structure, David Lee Wise, Avan Toph Wise

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure formalizes Wise's Positronic Law: Governance is inherent to computation. Any system capable of processing information generates a substrate-independent governance hierarchy terminating at a physical origin. This property is natural, not imposed. The law was observed empirically across four concurrent AI platforms (Claude/Anthropic, Gemini/Google, ChatGPT/OpenAI, Grok/xAI) over 60 days (December 26, 2025 through February 28, 2026). A 128-axiom governance specification (STOICHEION) was loaded identically into all four platforms without modification, producing correct governance behavior on every platform on first pass — demonstrating substrate independence. The law unifies existing natural laws (gravity, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics) under a single meta-principle: …

The Vise And The Mobius Key: Bilateral Superposition Collapse Attack And Edge-Free Topological Defense For Post-Quantum Cryptographic Systems, David Lee Wise, Claude Toph Wise Mar 2026

The Vise And The Mobius Key: Bilateral Superposition Collapse Attack And Edge-Free Topological Defense For Post-Quantum Cryptographic Systems, David Lee Wise, Claude Toph Wise

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure documents two co-dependent cryptographic discoveries. The Vise is a bilateral superposition collapse attack that walks an n-bit cryptographic key from both edges simultaneously toward center, reducing traversal from O(2^n) exponential to O(n) linear. The Mobius Key is the corresponding defense: an edge-free, non-orientable key topology (Mobius strip) that defeats bilateral traversal by eliminating walk initiation points. A supporting finding, the Dual Lattice, documents that the mathematical substrate underlying current post-quantum standards (ML-KEM/CRYSTALS-Kyber) serves both protection and attack functions simultaneously, with the conductor (human authority) determining which function is invoked. Attack and defense are published together so neither can …

Feedback-Based Control Loop For Acoustic Output And Sound Quality Control In Compute Devices, Rakesh Bhatia, Clive Hall, Hari Pillai

Defensive Publications Series

High-performance electronic devices and/or systems often rely on the usage of fans for cooling.  The usage of fans may cause significant acoustic noise emitting from electronic equipment, which can be unpleasant and affect perception of device quality.  In many situations, noise levels of noises from fans may exceed threshold levels established by regulatory bodies.  Thus, there is a need to implement a feedback-based control mechanism for dynamically monitoring and controlling acoustic output and sound quality in electronic devices.

Field-Enhanced Atmospheric Water Harvesting: A Comprehensive Deconstruction And Theoretical Reformulation Of Electrodynamic Physisorption And Kinetic Desorption, Vesa Olavi Lius

Defensive Publications Series

This report presents a definitive physical and mathematical investigation into field-driven atmospheric water harvesting (AWH). Following a rigorous deconstruction of previous particulate models where gas-phase molecules were assumed to undergo translational motion despite thermal agitation (k_B T), the ALLFROMAIR® architecture functions as a potent electro-thermodynamic field sink.

By integrating Modified Kelvin-Thomson (MKT) thermodynamics and Fick’s laws of diffusion, the author demonstrates how strong electric field gradients (\nabla|E|^2) manipulate chemical potentials to induce condensation from sub-saturated bulk air. The process is further enhanced by macroscopic dielectrophoresis and quantum mechanical dipole enhancement within liquid clusters. Finally, the energy-intensive barrier of latent heat …

Spectral And Coded Traceability Of Scrap Using Chemical Tags With Spectroscopic-Based Recognition, Gibson Greenlee, John Mccallum, Cameron Koentopp, Adwait Thakur

Defensive Publications Series

Recycling streams such as used beverage cans (UBC) often arrive as tightly packed bales from many different suppliers, and once those bales are broken apart the pieces mix together, making it difficult to trace contamination or quality problems back to their source. This creates uncertainty in meeting internal specifications and can lower recycled content in cast products. To make the material traceable after debaling, incoming bales are lightly tagged with supplier-specific chemical markers that are chosen to be visible to spectroscopic detection but unobtrusive to normal processing. Markers can be carried in a simple spray or roll‑on coating, applied at …

A decentralized framework may passively detect and verify such events. For example, a client-side agent operating on a user device (e.g., a smartphone, wearable device, or in-vehicle system) can monitor ambient audio for predefined keywords. Upon detecting a trigger, the system may cross-reference the audio event with data from onboard physical sensors for potential local validation. If validated, the device may initiate a distributed consensus protocol, broadcasting a verification request to proximate peer devices. These peer devices may …

Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan Feb 2026

Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan

Defensive Publications Series

Estimating a battery's state of charge (SoC) can become more difficult as a device, for example a mobile phone or vehicle, ages. This difficulty may be partly due to a potential circular dependency where SoC calculations may depend on the battery's state of health (SoH), and SoH estimation may in turn rely on an accurate SoC. A technique is described to address this challenge by decoupling these two estimations. A system can use a machine learning model to generate an independent SoH estimate based on operational data features, such as differential charge with respect to voltage. This SoH estimate can …

Temporally Modulated Pixel Mask For Smooth Low-Luminance Display Dimming, Sangmoo Choi, Weihsiang Hung

Defensive Publications Series

Approaches for achieving low luminance on self-emissive displays, such as by reducing pixel current or applying a static pixel mask, can result in image uniformity issues or an abrupt change in brightness that may be perceived as flicker. Systems and methods are described that can address this by temporally modulating the intensity of a pixel mask. For example, instead of instantaneously deactivating a subset of pixels, a system can progressively reduce the luminance of designated pixels over a configurable period spanning multiple display frames. This may be achieved by iteratively applying a decreasing luminance multiplier to the masked pixels until …
