Tooltip For Automated Conversion Of Data In Electronic Form, Peter Schiller Dec 2016

Tooltip For Automated Conversion Of Data In Electronic Form, Peter Schiller

Defensive Publications Series

Disclosed herein are a system and a method for a calendar tooltip that includes the designation of significant dates for filling electronic forms with numerical information. The application visually differentiates the significant dates with a highlight app or by some other tool. The servers may process the information given by the user, and a database resolves the given date to a standard format. An assistive tooltip or annotation acts as a feedback mechanism to alert the user about the conversion. Thus, the system may perform smart interaction, and users may discern significant dates without relying on separate apps and services.

Method Of Password Entering And Storing, Dimitri Kanevsky, Marcel Yung Dec 2016

Method Of Password Entering And Storing, Dimitri Kanevsky, Marcel Yung

Defensive Publications Series

A system and method are disclosed in which a user adds random characters or produces random gestures while s/he enters a password/pin. The password/pin input string becomes a combination of substrings--some of which are part of the valid password string and some of which consist of random characters or gestures. The correct password characters are then easily detected by a security password extracting system that matches characters in the correct password string to those that appear in the garbled string. The method disclosed can be performed with touchscreen gesture passwords, security questions, voice passwords or similar security lock. The method …

Leap-Smeared Representation Of Time For High-Accuracy Applications, Michael Shields Dec 2016

Leap-Smeared Representation Of Time For High-Accuracy Applications, Michael Shields

Defensive Publications Series

Civil time is based upon coordinated universal time (UTC), which is synchronized to the length of the day. However, the earth’s rotational speed is slowing over time, i.e., the length of the day is increasing. In order for UTC to keep pace with the growing length of the day, UTC is delayed at pre-announced dates by one second. This delay is effected by adding a “leap second” at the end of the day of each pre-announced date. Although leap second correction achieves synchronization between UTC and length-of-day, computer systems that presume a smooth, always-forward movement of time may malfunction when …

Broad Match Cpc Adjustment, Justin Lewis, Gavin James Dec 2016

Broad Match Cpc Adjustment, Justin Lewis, Gavin James

Defensive Publications Series

A broad match cost per click (CPC) adjustment system can be used to calculate an overall impression bid based on impression bids from a keyword and its broad matched keywords. The system determines broad match keywords corresponding to an original keyword specified by an advertiser. The system further displays the broad match keywords to the advertiser. The system then identifies and differentiates between the impression bids for the original keyword and each of the broad matched keywords determined from the original keyword. The system further generates an overall impression bid based on impression bids from the broad matched keywords and …

Virtual Sonography, Joseph Blaylock Dec 2016

This disclosure describes a machine-based inspection mechanism for utility networks, based on, for example, autonomous or remotely-operated drones with the capability to perform intricate inspections at difficult-to-reach regions and heights. The inspection tasks including, for example, …

Automatic Image Timestamp Correction, Jeremy Pack Nov 2016

Automatic Image Timestamp Correction, Jeremy Pack

Defensive Publications Series

Images captured with digital cameras include timestamp information that indicates date and time of capture, e.g., based on a date/time setting in the camera. However, such information excludes the time zone in which the image was captured. Consequently, a true time of capture, e.g., UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) of images captured with such cameras is unknown. For example, for a camera that is set to Pacific Standard Time (PST) while capturing images in New York, the images would include a timestamp that is offset from a New York local time by three hours. This disclosure describes techniques to analyze images …
