Electronics Cooling Technology Based On Direct Evaporation Aug 2018

Electronics Cooling Technology Based On Direct Evaporation

Defensive Publications Series

Methods and systems, including computer programs, for a cooling system that uses vapor compression, passing refrigerant through a compressor and a condenser and delivering the condensed refrigerant directly to a heat source. Prior to reaching the heat source, the refrigerant is passed through a pressure reduction system that allows for all of the refrigerant to be routed through the system at ambient temperature with no heat loss. After its expansion, the refrigerant drops in temperature and absorbs heat directly from the heat source to evaporate. This is in contrast to contemporary systems which perform vapor compression on a secondary coolant—typically …

A Firmware-First, Early Warning System To Detect Performance Anomalies And Provide Actionable Insights In User-Visible Interfaces, Srinivasan Varadarajan Sahasranamam, Sandeep S Yelandur

Defensive Publications Series

Application performance can be affected adversely due to many reasons. Some of these sources of performance degradation remain hidden from user visibility due to their very nature of occurrence, such as misconfigured hardware or firmware settings, or a faulty piece of hardware that is designed to keep the system functional, albeit on a reduced horsepower. Prevalent monitoring approaches rely on such performance degradations having persisted in the platform before they can be acted upon. In this paper, we propose a novel, “firmware-first”, rules-based approach for early detection of performance anomalies, both during the boot process and at runtime (where the …

Automatic Denormalization Of Databases, Karthik Ravi Shankar, Gurunathan Nagarajan Aug 2018

Automatic Denormalization Of Databases, Karthik Ravi Shankar, Gurunathan Nagarajan

Defensive Publications Series

Normalization is a technique in databases to eliminate data redundancy or inconsistent dependency. Normalizing is achieved by dividing larger tables of a database into smaller ones and defining relationships between them. Normalization can yield performance gains, such as improved response times, but only to an extent. Highly normalized databases are not performance optimal. Optimal database performance is often obtained at a sweet spot between optimizing sizes of individual tables and the number of tables. A highly normalized database is therefore often denormalized to improve performance. Traditionally, denormalization is driven by user or developer intuition.

This disclosure describes a machine-learning model …
