Large Language Model (Llm) Generated Personalized Mnemonics, Heidi Wong, Elissa Wolf Apr 2024

Large Language Model (Llm) Generated Personalized Mnemonics, Heidi Wong, Elissa Wolf

Defensive Publications Series

Mnemonic devices aid information retention and retrieval of information from long-term memory. The peculiarity of mnemonic devices makes them memorable. An example of a mnemonic device is "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pies" that is helpful to remember the order of the planets in the solar system by distance from the sun. However, currently there are no automated ways of generating mnemonics, or to generate associated images that help remember the mnemonics. This disclosure leverages the capabilities of a large language model (LLM) and image generation model(s) to automatically generate mnemonics that can aid memory. A user …

User-Driven Data Privacy Protection In An Iot Environment, Nivetha B, Frank Michaud, Rahul Kata, Pranetha Priya R, Ganesh Paramasivan

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are presented herein that enhance user data privacy in an Internet of things (IoT) environment. Aspects of the techniques introduce a third actor into such an environment – apart from a user and an IoT device – whose sole purpose is to empower a user to protect their own data. Such a data Custodian or Sanitizer may collect inputs from a user through a software as a service (SaaS) solution and then leverage the capabilities of the extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) to apply those inputs to an IoT device.

Media content providers can provide media content of different varieties to a television (TV) application that then presents the media content for viewing by a user. For example, the user may watch and/or listen to the media content on a mobile computing device such as a laptop computer, tablet computer, or smartphone. The user may also watch and/or listen to the media content on a TV set (e.g., a smart television). In some implementations, a provider of the TV application may analyze and evaluate each media content item provided by the media content providers before allowing the TV application to …

Real Time Data Replication For Data Centers, Shailendra Rathore, Ranjan Kumar, Rajiv Jain, Kumar Manindra Apr 2024

Real Time Data Replication For Data Centers, Shailendra Rathore, Ranjan Kumar, Rajiv Jain, Kumar Manindra

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques to perform real time replication of software application data across multiple data centers. Updates to application data recorded at each data center are transmitted to a publish–subscribe (pub/sub) service. The pub/sub service receives updates from all connected data centers and transmits the updates as a message via outbound message queues. The received messages are processed and application data updates are ingested into suitable data structures that support the software application. When an update to application data is received, a document is prepared based on the update. The document is published to a pub/sub queue. The document …

Automatic And Consistent Api Generation, Richard Frankel Apr 2024

Automatic And Consistent Api Generation, Richard Frankel

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques to automate the generation of application programming interfaces (APIs) within a cloud environment to support API compliance with API design patterns such as the API Improvement Proposals (AIPs) is maintained. Developers define APIs in a higher level, semantic language in terms of constructs defined in the ordinary prose of the AIPs. The configuration file is processed to generate API contracts (including standard boilerplate), documentation, remote procedure call (RPC) server code, client libraries, SDKs, authorization scopes, etc. Compared to traditional techniques of API creation, the described techniques result in compact, less redundant, more efficient specifications. The techniques …

Enhancing Sequence Modeling: Leveraging Gans With Reinforcement Learning Apr 2024

Enhancing Sequence Modeling: Leveraging Gans With Reinforcement Learning

Defensive Publications Series

This paper builds upon the SeqGAN framework, aiming to explore and implement strategic enhancements. SeqGAN facilitates the generation of discrete token sequences, a common requirement in NLP applications, by employing a stochastic policy in reinforcement learning (RL). This approach effectively circumvents the differentiation challenges typically faced by generators by directly applying gradient policy updates. The RL reward mechanism is driven by a GAN discriminator that evaluates complete sequences, facilitating backward integration of feedback to earlier state-action pairs through Monte Carlo search. Key improvements considered include the adoption of WGAN, which employs Earth Mover's distance instead of KL divergence, offering potentially …

Optimized Iterative Methods For Markov Decision Processes: A Subspace Approach Apr 2024

Optimized Iterative Methods For Markov Decision Processes: A Subspace Approach

Defensive Publications Series

Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) are fundamental in computational decision-making frameworks, requiring efficient computational methods for their resolution. Traditionally, methods such as matrix splitting have been used to decompose the Bellman equations for iterative solutions. However, the Krylov Subspace Method (KSM) presents a more efficient alternative, leveraging dynamic iterative techniques that significantly outperform static ones. This paper introduces the Enhanced Iterative Subspace Method (EISM), detailing its conceptual motivations, practical implementations, and superiority through various computational experiments.

Efficient Augmentative Communication Using Large Language Models, Adriana Guevara-Rukoz, Atsuko Yamagami, Atsushi Yamashita, Satoru Arao, Yasuaki Takebe, Shuhei Iitsuka

Defensive Publications Series

For augmentative and alternative communications (AAC), there exists an inverse relationship between input expressivity and input efficiency: A technique that selects characters one-by-one provides substantial freedom of expression but requires many actions to compose a sentence, while techniques that select from a preset vocabulary can enable quicker input that is limited to the vocabulary. This disclosure describes techniques of augmentative and alternative communication that leverage a large language model (LLMs) to simultaneously optimize both input expressivity and input efficiency. Upon the entry of a few characters of a sentence or command (e.g., using eye trackers, finger tapping, etc.), word and …

Targeted Video Selection Using Llm-Guided, Interactive Semantic Search, D Shin Apr 2024

Targeted Video Selection Using Llm-Guided, Interactive Semantic Search, D Shin

Defensive Publications Series

Video search interfaces enable users to enter keywords or phrases in a search box to search for videos. However, when initial search results do not meet the user’s needs, users have to re-initiate the search with a modified set of keywords with corresponding new results, which is inefficient and does not utilize information from the previous search. This disclosure describes techniques that enable users to perform interactive video search with iterative use of a large language model (LLM) to identify matching search results. If initial query results are unsatisfactory, the user can provide additional clarifying input in the search box. …

Access Control Based On Entire Request Path, David Challoner Apr 2024

Access Control Based On Entire Request Path, David Challoner

Defensive Publications Series

A technique is proposed for signaling when a request path leaves the permissible regions by considering the entire request path as an authorization signal. A data access controller, after receiving a data access request, can determine whether the requested data is subject to regional limitations. If the data is subject to such limitations, the data access controller determines whether each device of the request path is within permissible regions of applicable data controls. The data access controller can also use a device inventory database to apply additional controls based on the characteristics of devices in the request path. If a …

Highly Available Te Path Management For Delegated Paths Across Multiple Pces Without East-West Communication Between Pces, Anonymous Mar 2024

Highly Available Te Path Management For Delegated Paths Across Multiple Pces Without East-West Communication Between Pces, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

The present disclosure relates to Traffic Engineering path management with Path Computation Elements (PCEs). Specifically, we allow TE paths to stay in a PCE throughout the entire TE path lifecycle. There is a new “controlling” setting to determine whether the PCE is active for that TE path, allowing the PCE to keep the TE path in its inventory even when it does not have control of the TE path. This uses existing work in the Path Computation Client (PCC) to determine its active and backup PCE by listening to what the PCE Protocol (PCEP) says about delegation of the various …
