Faster Switching Of Citizens Broadband Radio Service (Cbrs) Profiles, Shivank Nayak, Sooraj Sasindran, Robert Greenwalt
Faster Switching Of Citizens Broadband Radio Service (Cbrs) Profiles, Shivank Nayak, Sooraj Sasindran, Robert Greenwalt
Defensive Publications Series
Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) and Embedded SIM (eSIM) offer the possibility of supporting multiple subscription profiles within the same card. Only one of these subscriptions can be active at a given time. However, a single active subscription may not work well for acquiring citizens broadband radio service (CBRS), which is highly localized, with a user likely to have subscribed to multiple providers, each with a corresponding subscription. As a result, supporting opportunistic CBRS data connectivity requires the modem to switch CBRS profiles by deactivating the active profile and activating a new profile. Such switching takes a noticeably long time. …
Lightweight Idempotent Operational Transform Inference In A Collaborative Editor, Owen Glofcheski
Lightweight Idempotent Operational Transform Inference In A Collaborative Editor, Owen Glofcheski
Defensive Publications Series
Per techniques of this disclosure, clients send opaque blobs of text to a server, rather than full operational transforms. The server uses the revision number received from the client to infer operational transforms by obtaining the shortest edit sequence between the received opaque text and revisions subsequent to the revision number. The techniques are particularly suitable for use in lightweight collaborative editors, such as note-taking software.
An idempotency issue potentially arises when not using full operational transforms in communications between client and server: duplicate requests can sometimes result in duplicate transforms on the server. Therefore, per the disclosed techniques, the …

Secured Enterprise Anchored 5g Core User Plane Function, Eric Stewart, Jiming Shen
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques provided herein extend User Plane mobile core Functions (UPFs) outside the conventional service provider boundary to the enterprise customers’ premises. Between the enterprise-hosted UPF and packet core, secured ES1u/EN3 and ESx/EN4 interfaces and call flows are defined in addition to those in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards. These new secured interfaces are further protected by white-list server authorization before secure tunnels are established.

Optimizing Signaling In 5g Non-Standalone Network Deployments Enabled With Presence Reporting Area, Somaraju Kaki, Anjaneyulu P.V.M.K.P
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are provided herein for helping to address excessive Gx signaling. A Presence Reporting Area (PRA) feature coupled with Dual Connectivity New Radio (DCNR) / 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) network deployments enable Packet Data Gateways (PGWs) to offer Quality of Service (QoS) upgrade/downgrade of the respective bearer that was switched as part of a path update procedure based on the PRA Identifier (PRA-ID). This avoids upgrading/downgrading all the bearers associated with the Packet Data Network (PDN). Without these techniques, when the Master eNodeB (MeNB) triggers a path update for certain bearers, the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) would end up …

Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are described herein for a high efficiency sleep schedule method to save energy for Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). Nodes are not distinguished as Full Function Device (FFD) or Reduced Function Device (RFD), as the strategy depends on hop count and the parent node’s sleep schedule. Data Saving Using Contextual Signals, Victor Carbune, Thierry Coppey
Data Saving Using Contextual Signals, Victor Carbune, Thierry Coppey
Defensive Publications Series
Mobile device applications and operating systems offer a data-saving option such that online content that is believed to be unchanged since last load is not reloaded. However, this sometimes leads to a situation where online content that has actually changed is not reloaded or that stale content is reloaded. The misdetection of fresh content as stale or vice-versa occurs due to the heuristics that are used by the data-saving algorithms of the application/ OS, due to misconfigured servers, etc.
This disclosure presents machine-learning techniques that determine if a web page or a portion thereof is to be reloaded. The techniques …

Dynamic Device Compromise Footprint Pre-Filtering, Eric Voit, Jared Pendleton, Chris Mccoy
Dynamic Device Compromise Footprint Pre-Filtering, Eric Voit, Jared Pendleton, Chris Mccoy
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are provided herein to enhance detection of compromised network devices by maintaining a list of network device indicators of compromise (i.e., a footprint), determining the viable footprints relevant to the device’s specific deployment context, and placing checks for these footprints onto a device. Based on the reduced set of footprints, these footprints are placed in a cryptoprocessor (e.g., Trusted Platform Module (TPM)) to ensure that potentially relevant evidence cannot be silently discarded. As soon as a new footprint is characterized, devices may forward found instances of these footprints to a security controller. This allows the security controller to do …

Authentication Using Sparse Modeling Of Fingerprint Images, Firas Sammoura, Matthew Robbins
Authentication Using Sparse Modeling Of Fingerprint Images, Firas Sammoura, Matthew Robbins
Defensive Publications Series
Fingerprint sensors often have difficulty authenticating users if the user’s fingers are wet or moist, e.g., due to sweat. This disclosure presents robust techniques for fingerprint identification based on the K-SVD algorithm, which is a technique to represent images in a sparse manner. A K-SVD dictionary is created out of enrolled fingerprint images. A fingerprint that is to be authenticated is segmented into blocks, and each block is projected against the dictionary. A heat map of highest projection coefficients is formed, and overall match-score is calculated. The overall match-score is used to authenticate the fingerprint. The dictionary stores the essential …

Method To Dynamically Optimize Mimo Throughput Of Coupled Tunable Antennas, Vivek Bharambe, Matthew Slater
Method To Dynamically Optimize Mimo Throughput Of Coupled Tunable Antennas, Vivek Bharambe, Matthew Slater
Defensive Publications Series
Many wireless communication standards (4G LTE, 5G NR, Wi-Fi, etc.) can leverage multiple antennas within a device through multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication protocols. Antenna tuners are often used to tune the individual antennas for various transmission and reception characteristics. Traditional means of tuning the antennas, however, do not account for coupling between the antennas. Often, MIMO antennas are packaged within proximity of each other due to tight packaging constraints in modern electronic devices. In these types of coupled MIMO systems, maximum throughput is achieved when the coupling between the antennas is accounted for, even though a single antenna may not …
