Virtual Leds For Real-Time Monitoring And Debugging In Electronic Hardware, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are ubiquitous in electronic hardware, where they serve to indicate device state and/or provide debug information, e.g., during product development. If indicator LEDs are retained in production hardware, equipment owners incur substantial capital and operating costs. This disclosure describes the virtual LED (vLED), a technique that leverages connectivity through an on-board controller such as a baseboard management controller (BMC) to transmit real-time information equivalent to the state of the physical indicator-LED to a log file communicated through a browser or other tool. The vLED provides the equivalent functionalities as a physical LED while costing nearly nothing and …

Mechanism To Enable Participants To End Virtual Meetings Early, Daniel Keysers Jul 2021

Mechanism To Enable Participants To End Virtual Meetings Early, Daniel Keysers

Defensive Publications Series

Virtual meetings sometimes stretch to the time initially allocated to them even though many or all participants would prefer to end the meeting early. However, due to social convention, no participant may be in a position to indicate that they would prefer to end the meeting earlier than scheduled. This disclosure describes a mechanism that can be included in virtual meeting software that enables meeting participants to indicate, during an ongoing meeting, that they would prefer to end the meeting early, e.g., any time starting from the provision of the indication. Upon receipt of such indications from a threshold number …

Mechanism For Cross Process Communication With Anr Checking And Automatic Object Serialization, Rafael Lima, Roberto Perez, Jorge Pereira, David Notario Jul 2021

Mechanism For Cross Process Communication With Anr Checking And Automatic Object Serialization, Rafael Lima, Roberto Perez, Jorge Pereira, David Notario

Defensive Publications Series

A host and a client may perform inter-process communication (IPC) with automatic object serialization and deserialization and with application not responding (ANR) checking. A sender (e.g., a host process, host application, host device, a client process, client application, client device, etc.) may automatically serialize an object by using reflection (e.g., the ability of a process to examine, introspect, and modify its own structure and behavior) to recursively obtain all fields and corresponding key-value pairs from each layer of the object (as well as any parent object with inheritance). The sender may bundle the fields and key-value pairs and transmit the …

Context-Based Contact Suggestions For Content Sharing, Eusebius Lai Jul 2021

Context-Based Contact Suggestions For Content Sharing, Eusebius Lai

Defensive Publications Series

When a user selects content to share, some operating systems present a user interface in which the user is shown a shortcut to share the content with particular contacts and/or via particular applications. However, such suggestions often do not match the user’s intent and are therefore inaccurate and accordingly, have low click-through rates. This disclosure describes techniques, implemented with user permission, to assign an affinity signal to a given piece of content, such that the suggestion interface offers the most relevant contacts to share the content with. The affinity signal is based on the content as well as the context, …

Presence Validation Using Secured Internet Protocol (Ip) Address, Patrick Wetterwald, Eric Levy- Abegnoli, Pascal Thubert, Jonas Zaddach

Defensive Publications Series

Various presence-based validation technologies exist that provide for the ability add identity and presence validation to a laptop-based system. However, these technologies are primarily limited to computers (e.g., desktops and laptops) and do not include location validation. There is a need to extend these capabilities to other devices connected to a network and also to eliminate the need for a hardware-assisted solution. There is also a need to offer network location to avoid any type of attack from devices that are not connected to a local area network (LAN) or even to the same port. This proposal provides a technique …

Multicast Virtual Private Network Per-Flow Monitoring For An Aggregated Tunnel In A Multiprotocol Label Switching Core, Mankamana Mishra, Ashok Kumar, Sridhar Santhanam, Rajiv Asati, Nitin Kumar Jun 2021

Multicast Virtual Private Network Per-Flow Monitoring For An Aggregated Tunnel In A Multiprotocol Label Switching Core, Mankamana Mishra, Ashok Kumar, Sridhar Santhanam, Rajiv Asati, Nitin Kumar

Defensive Publications Series

Typically, when a service provider carries customer multicast traffic over a core network, it is often carried over a tunnel, which are often aggregated. There are many reasons for aggregated tunnel use, such as issues of scale and/or hardware limitations. While aggregated tunnels can be useful for carrying multicast traffic, it can be difficult to monitor network health when tunnels are aggregated. Techniques of this proposal provide for the ability to monitor network health by supporting per-flow counters for aggregated tunnels for both Internet Protocol (IP) version 4 and version 6 (IPv4/IPv6) traffic in a manner that is scalable and …

Password-Less Trust Based Access Authorization For Remote Internet-Of-Things (Iot) Devices, Shweta Palande, Shivani Suri, Madhuri Dewangan, Vinay Saini

Defensive Publications Series

The industry is moving away from password-based authorizations as they are often difficult to manage and are associated with various risks. Techniques herein solve an important issue with regard to remote Internet of Things (IoT) gateway access by utilizing a password-less trust-based authentication mechanism through which dynamic trust-based authorizations can be provided for devices utilizing a combination of a user trust score and a device risk profile in a unique manner. Such an approach will improve IoT security and will also help to solve an important security issue within the IoT/industrial world.

Auto-Suggest Query Refinement Using N-Best Alternative Homophones, Brett Barros, Theo Goguely Jun 2021

Auto-Suggest Query Refinement Using N-Best Alternative Homophones, Brett Barros, Theo Goguely

Defensive Publications Series

Automatic speech recognizer software (ASR), e.g., as implemented in voice-activated virtual assistants or other applications, is prone to conflating words that sound similar (homophones). Keyboard-style corrections, e.g., based on the edit-distance of transcribed words, are suboptimal in the presence of such transcription errors. This disclosure describes techniques that predict the N-best speech-to-text transcription alternatives for a given word, wherein the suggested replacements are based on homophones or words with similar sounds. The techniques can be used in any context where automatic speech recognition is used, e.g., to enable correction of commands provided to a virtual assistant, to modify transcribed speech, …

Spatially Diverse, Smart Sound Generation Using A Multi-Speaker Device Topology, D Shin

Defensive Publications Series

Many users have multiple devices, e.g., smart TVs, smart speakers, smart displays, smartphones, etc. in their homes. Currently, most such devices generally act independent of each other. For the user, this can feel like a scattered experience, especially if the user interacts with multiple devices in the home frequently. This disclosure describes techniques that enable multiple, independent audio devices at a single location to act in unison to generate context-driven, spatially coherent sounds. Example applications include playback of speech or music, ambient audio, burglar deterrence, etc.

Predictive Pre-Answering Based On Speech Roots, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

The latency of response from a virtual assistant to a user query is an important performance parameter. However, often it is the perception of latency that drives the user’s experience and thereby, adoption/use of a virtual assistant. Skeleton screens can be used for pre-answering a query, e.g., working out a partial answer based on a partial query. This disclosure describes techniques to predict the collection of intents associated with a partial user query and automatically rendering an appropriate skeleton screen substantially earlier during the user interaction with a virtual assistant or other user interface.
