Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Donepezil and galantamine are commonly prescribed for the treatment of dementia. However, the response rate of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors is only 15-35 %. Inter-individual variability in donepezil and galantamine response has been associated with genetic factor in some population. Moreover, non-genetic factors such as age, gender, education level, comorbidities and drug-drug interactions can influence pharmacokinetic profiles and drug responses. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the association of genetic variations that involved therapeutic effects of donepezil and galantamine including pathogenic gene; APOE, drug metabolizing genes; CYP2D6, CYP3A5, UGT1A1, transporter gene; ABCB1 and non-genetic factors with therapeutic outcomes as measured as Thai …
Consciousness Eliminated In Daniel Dennett, Jittiwat Narakornpaichit
Consciousness Eliminated In Daniel Dennett, Jittiwat Narakornpaichit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
One of the major debates in philosophy of mind is the complication about how to explain the manifestation of qualia in the scientific image. Qualia have usually been understood as phenomenal properties of mental states; and their resistance against physical explanation is famously demonstrated by Joseph Levine as the explanatory gap and by David Chalmers as the hard problem of consciousness. The aim of this thesis is to study and evaluate Daniel Dennett's response to the complication in this debate with his eliminativist approach on consciousness. The key idea of Dennett's so-called illusionism is that qualia only seem to exist …

Application Of Adversarial Networks In Search For Four Top Quark Production In Cms, Vichayanun Wachirapusitanand
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
One burden of high energy physics data analysis is uncertainty within the measurement, both systematically and statistically. Even with sophisticated neural network techniques that are used to assist in high energy physics measurements, the resulting measurement may suffer from both types of uncertainties. Fortunately, most types of systematic uncertainties are based on knowledge from information such as theoretical assumptions, for which the range and behaviour are known. It has been proposed to mitigate such systematic uncertainties by using a new type of neural network called adversarial neural network (ANN) that would make the discriminator less sensitive to these uncertainties, but …

Effects Of Aldosterone On Striatin And Caveolin-1 Protein Levels In Rat Kidney: Role Of Mineralocorticoid Receptor, Kevalin Inthachart
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The mineralocorticoid hormone aldosterone is a steroid hormone which plays an important role in maintenance of sodium, potassium, and acid-base balance. Aldosterone actions are mediated by mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) that could operate via genomic or nongenomic pathways. It has been shown that MR forms a complex with several molecules including scaffolding proteins, such as striatin and caveolin-1 (cav-1). Previous in vitro studies demonstrated that aldosterone increased striatin and cav-1 protein abundance. In addition, both striatin and cav-1 could interact with MR. However, there is no in vivo study of aldosterone effects on striatin and cav-1 protein levels in rat kidney. …

Effect Of Local Rewiring In Adaptive Epidemic Erdos-Renyi Random Networks, Suwakan Piankoranee
Effect Of Local Rewiring In Adaptive Epidemic Erdos-Renyi Random Networks, Suwakan Piankoranee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Adaptive epidemic network is driven by two main processes, (1) infectionrecovery process that changes the states of the nodes, and (2) rewiring process that modifies the topology of the network. In the past two decades, epidemic models on adaptive networks have gained interests because understanding the dynamics between these two processes can be key to improving control of diseases. However, in most of these models, the rewiring mechanism is based on information known globally, i.e., everyone knows the health status of all others in the network. This concept is not practical in real life for large network. This dissertation aims …

Novel (Cu-Sn) And (Ni-Sn) Catalysts Prepared By Mechanical Alloying, Sakollapath Pithakratanayothin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research was aimed to synthesize intermetallic catalysts using mechanical alloying (Ma) technique. Copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) were chosen to study since not only their properties are closed to the noble metal properties, e.g. platinum and palladium, but also they are not expensive. However, as also found in noble metals, both Cu and Ni metals are oxidized easily in air. To overcome this problem, either Cu or Ni was mixed with tin (Sn) to obtain bimetallics, viz. CuSn or NiSn, respectively. Therefore, this research was focused on finding the optimal conditions to synthesize both CuSn and NiSn bimetallics using …

The present work focuses on multi-responsive molecule based on supramolecular chemistry of benzoxazine dimer as a benzoxazine supramolecular crosslinker, fluorescent labelling benzoxazine conjugated with rotaxane system and benzoxazine pendant group block copolymer. The use of azobenzene derivatives in benzoxazine synthesis provides light responsive behaviour. The remained hydroxyl group from aminoalcohol allows benzoxazine to conjugate with desired functional group. The dihydroxyl benzoxazine acts as molecular crosslinker for poly(acrylic acid) by conjugation. The ring-opening reaction brings benzoxazine dimeric unit on the crosslinker which also showed metal ion complexation. The complexation strengthens the cross-linked polymer network. The complex can reversely form by treating …
