Enhancing Multilingual Sentence Representation Learning For The Job Recruitment Domain, Napat Laosaengpha
Enhancing Multilingual Sentence Representation Learning For The Job Recruitment Domain, Napat Laosaengpha
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
With the advancement in natural language processing (NLP), there has been significant development in multilingual pretraining sentence encoder. Typically, these pretraining models are trained on large-scale datasets that consist of general text data from various sources such as Wikipedia. However, the general proposed models aren't enough to understand contexts in such a domain-specific, especially in the job recruitment domain. It is due to its niche nature and the lack of readily available related information. To enhance the existing multilingual pretraining sentence encoder and mitigate the aforementioned problems, we first propose multi-task dual-encoder framework to improve the sentence encoder for general-purpose …

Enhancing Biodegradation Of Pla/Pbat Mulch In Soil By Biosurfactant And Bioaugmentation, Nontach Nanthawuthipan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Plastic mulch comprised of a blending of polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT), also known as PLA/PBAT, is an alternative for traditional plastic mulch. Nevertheless, it still takes a substantial time to degrade. This study aimed to promote biodegradation of the PLA/PBAT mulch in soil by using a biosurfactant solution produced from Brevibacterium casei NK8 to pretreat mulch before adding a bacterial consortium (Chitinophaga jiangningensis EA02, Nocardioides zeae EA12, Stenotrophomonas pavanii EA33, and Gordonia desulfuricans EA63). The first phase was to study the effect of UV-C irradiation on the plastic mulch to simulate natural photodegradation. The result showed that …

Predicting Quality Of Life In Driving Scene Using Image Recognition Techniques And User Group Information, Ployrada Suvarnakuta
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study presents a machine learning approach for predicting perceived urban Quality of Life (QoL) by integrating visual features from street-level imagery with personal attributes, including demographic, socioeconomic, and travel behavior data. Using datasets from Bangkok and London, we trained supervised models—Support Vector Machines and Multilayer Perceptrons—under multiple input configurations to evaluate the contribution of each data type. Results show that combining visual and personal features improves prediction accuracy compared to using visual features alone. Statistical feature selection identified income, education, housing stability, and travel patterns as consistently important predictors, with some variation across urban contexts. These findings underscore the …

Mri-Based Radiomics Model From Mesorectal Fat To Predict Perirectal Lymph Node Status And Extramural Venous Invasion In Colorectal Cancer Patients, Yaniga Swaengdee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide and the incidence rate is rising in Asia. Perirectal lymph node metastasis (PLN) and extramural venous invasion (EMVI) are common and associated with poor prognosis in CRC patients. While total mesorectal excision is the gold standard for confirming PLN and EMVI, MRI is keys modality for staging. Radiomics, a technique that extracts quantitative features from medical images, allows for the development of predictive models for PLN and EMVI. This study aimed to build and evaluate a predictive model based on mesorectal fat radiomics from MRI images to improve PLN and …

The results show that the nanoparticle system has a size range of 80-120 nm, a PDI of 0.12-0.3, a zeta potential of -13.2 to -50.8 mV, and an absorption efficiency …
Beyond The ‘Boy Crisis’: Reframing Gender Performativity In Belgian Classrooms, Marjolein Vanmaercke
Beyond The ‘Boy Crisis’: Reframing Gender Performativity In Belgian Classrooms, Marjolein Vanmaercke
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis challenges the dominant discourse surrounding the so-called "boy crisis" in education by critically examining gender performativity in Belgian classrooms. Rather than accepting the narrative that boys are inherently disadvantaged in contemporary schooling, this study interrogates how gender is constructed and performed within educational settings. Drawing on Judith Butler’s theory of performativity, the research explores how teachers, curricula, and peer interactions contribute to the reinforcement or subversion of traditional gender norms. Using qualitative methods, including classroom observations and interviews with educators and students, the study highlights the ways in which gendered expectations shape students' educational experiences and outcomes. The …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Accurate and reliable gemstone classification is critical in gemology for authentication and identification purposes. A one-class classifier using self-organizing maps (SOMs), combined with Monte Carlo permutation testing, was successfully developed for gemstone classification based on Raman spectroscopy data. The developed SOM model was optimized by adjusting the map size and training iteration counts, and Monte Carlo permutation tests were conducted to evaluate prediction score through empirical p-values by generating random permutations of the data, allowing for a statistically robust assessment of classification reliability. Using the Raman spectra of RRUFF database and certain garnet gemstones, the model demonstrated high classification accuracy …
Enhance Gnn-Based Social Recommendation Using User Dynamic Characteristics, Janekhwan Kitsupapaisan
Enhance Gnn-Based Social Recommendation Using User Dynamic Characteristics, Janekhwan Kitsupapaisan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In recent developments, social recommendation frameworks have increasingly employed Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to model social connections among users, encompassing both immediate and more distant relationships within the network. Nonetheless, current advanced models encounter challenges related to the limited number of propagation steps they can perform on the graph. Messages originating from distant nodes often diminish the distinct features of the target user, resulting in more homogeneous representations that are difficult to differentiate. This issue is known as over-smoothing. Several approaches have been proposed to address this, aiming to preserve individual user traits by incorporating auxiliary information into GNN-based models. …

Rupert Property Of Some Solids In Higher Dimensions, Pongbunthit Tonpho
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
We say that a solidS has the Rupert property if a hole could be cut into one copy of S so that another copy of S can be passed through this hole. In recent years, many solids in R$ have been shown to have the Rupert property. However, not much is known about the Rupert property in higher dimensions. This dissertation investigates the Rupert property for some solids in R". We introduce lemmas that help to verify this property. In particular, we prove that some particular n-simplices, the generalized n-octahedrons/and the two-way cones in In have the Rupert property.

Thai-English Supported Automatic Speech Recognition For Endoscopic Reporting, Arpanant Saeng-Xuto
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis presents the automatic speech recognition (ASR) system for endoscopic reporting that supports Thai-English code-switching. During endoscopic procedures, gastroenterologists are required to use both hands to handle instruments, thereby complicating the real-time documentation of abnormal findings. While recent advances in speech recognition offer promising solutions, existing models face difficulties with Thai-English code-switching and tend to overfit when fine-tuned on limited datasets. To overcome these limitations, we propose an ASR model enhanced with the Mixture of Experts (MoE) technique to improve transcription accuracy. Furthermore, the Named Entity Recognition (NER) model extracts gastrointestinal (GI) terminology from the transcriptions and classifies its …
Real-Time Occupancy-Based Control Of Hvac Systems In Office Buildings Considering Energy Saving And Thermal Comfort, Emmanuel Agabi
Real-Time Occupancy-Based Control Of Hvac Systems In Office Buildings Considering Energy Saving And Thermal Comfort, Emmanuel Agabi
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems often waste energy and fail to maintain thermal comfort due to their reliance on static setpoints, manual on/off control, and limited responsiveness to occupancy and weather conditions. With advancements in the Internet of Things (IoT), integrating occupancy data into building energy management systems, including HVAC systems, has progressed beyond conventional sensor-based approaches. This thesis addresses the inefficiency of traditional control of HVAC systems by proposing two strategies for a single-zone office building. The first one is occupancy-based control (OBC), and the second is data-driven supervisory model predictive control (SMPC). By leveraging …
