Evaluation Of Carbon Dioxide And Nitrate Utilization From Recirculating Aquaculture System For Microalgal Production, Kittikoon Sucunthowong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study evaluated carbon dioxide and nitrate utilization from tilapia cultivating system by means of microalgal cultivation. The first part of this study evaluated the feasibility of using nitrate-rich effluent from aquaculture to cultivate Scenedesmus armatus in comparison with the cultivation using BG-11 media. Comparable biomass productivity and pigment content of S. armatus from the cultivation indicated that nitrate-rich effluent from aquaculture could be used as substitute for a more expensive BG-11 growth media. The second part of this study evaluated the feasibility of utilizing carbon dioxide concentrated air from roughly 3 kg/m3 tilapia cultured tank to grow S. armatus. …

A Comparison Of Microrna Profiles Between Rat Incisors And Molars, Sirawit Nipakasem Jan 2019

A Comparison Of Microrna Profiles Between Rat Incisors And Molars, Sirawit Nipakasem

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Unlike the molar, rodent incisor is a distinct organ that have continuously growth at distal end of tooth throughout its lifetime to compensate for abrasion. The key of continuous growth is the result of delayed root formation and prolonged crown formation that possibly made by stem cell niche, so-called cervical loop, which involve various genes and signaling pathways. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding single stranded RNAs that involved in biological mechanisms of dental development. To study the role of miRNA, we extracted total RNA from the dental pulp tissue collected from the apical part, coronal part of incisors and molars, …

Oral Health-Related Quality Of Life And Related Factors In The Elderly Patients Who Received Dental Treatment, Teerawut Tatiyapongpaiboon

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This thesis is a cross-sectional study which explores underlying determinants of elderly patients. The study examines related factor that impaired Oral Health-related Quality of life (OHRQoL) and analyzes the characteristics of elderly patients at our clinic. 46 participants are patients who completed dental treatment more than 6 months during May 2016 to December 2018. Underlying determinants information were recorded by interview, patient chart review and oral examination. There were collected self-evaluation and Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP). Descriptive statistics was used to describe the characteristics of patients. Spearman correlation and Kruskal-Wallis test at P-value < 0.05 were performed. From the results, the participant’s OIDP scores showed the majority in no severity and no more than 2 impacts activities. The major activities that were impacted were eating activity and speaking activity due to ill-fitting dentures but less impacts in psychological and social performance. There was poor denture satisfaction that impaired participant’s OHRQoL. However, there were differences between dentist and patient evaluation. The authors suggest that the dental treatment should focus on the recall system, the frequency of dental recall visits, procedures to successful oral hygiene instruction and skills to handle the denture problems.

Pm2.5, Pm10 Air Pollution And Associated Heavy Metals In Traffic Congested And Construction Areas Of Bangkok, Paphinwit Thammasaroj

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, is facing a serious problem caused by overpopulation and traffic congestion. In the this work, particulate matter, both PM2.5 (diameter < 2.5 μm) and PM10 (diameter < 10 μm) were quantified at the road nears construction areas and road with high traffic; compared with a control area. The sampling area comprised of Pattanakarn Road and Srinagarindra Road located on the eastern route, located between the inbound and outbound junction. Mini-volume air sampler was used to collect PM2.5, while cyclone air samplers were used to collect PM10. The samples were collected from November to December 2018, for 12 hours per day for 5 days at each sites. The collected samples were then digested by using microwave digestion for heavy metal components like Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb. Then, they were analyzed by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (GFAAS) to quantify the heavy metal concentrations. Video recorders were installed at each sampling areas to monitor the traffic flow and it was found that construction areas were the most crowded. The average PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in the construction areas were higher than those in traffic areas with no construction and the background site (a park), which had no impacts from construction and traffic. Heavy metals associated with particulate matter emitted during construction activities is an emerging environmental issue; however, construction activities are required for convenience and development. This study provides important data required to monitor the future trends of air pollution sources.

Adsorption Of Haloacetonitriles By Carbonized Metal-Organic Frameworks, Phattarawarin Rodbutr

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This research investigated adsorption efficiency of four including; Chloroacetonitrile (MCAN), Dichloriacetonitrile (DCAN), Bromoacetonitrile (MBAN) and Dibromoacetonitrle (DBAN) on five acid-washed carbonized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) (WC-ZIF-8, WC-MIL-53, WC-MIL-88B, WC-UiO-66 and WC-HKUST-1) compared with powder activated carbon (PAC S10). The synthesized materials were characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, nitrogen adsorption isotherms, FTIR and XPS. The screening experiment revealed that WC-MIL-88B, WC-ZIF-8, and PAC had highest adsorption capacities for four HANs, respectively. The HANs molecular size and their hydrophobicity influenced the adsorption rates of HANs in the order of DBAN>DCAN>MBAN>MCAN. The adsorption isotherms showed that Di-halogenic HANs (DBAN and DCAN) can …

Poverty And Corruption As Determinants Of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, Lyvia Ann Sanders Guerrier De Dumast

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Antimicrobial resistance is a major threat to global public health and is believed to cause over 700,000 deaths per year. Efforts to tackle this problem have tended to focus on reducing antibiotic consumption and promoting the appropriate use of medicines. This study examines the relative importance of other socio-economic factors, more specifically poverty (Gross National Income per capita) and corruption (measured by quality of governance), in determining antibiotic resistance compared to use of antibiotics. Using panel data of 48 countries in 2008-2017, a fixed-effects multivariate analysis was used. Sobel tests and mediation analyses were also carried out to determine the …
