Modified Air-Fenton (Maf) With Bimetallic Particles From Industrial Waste For Coolant Oil Treatment, Hathaichanok Suannuch
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research investigates the optimal conditions for treating synthetic coolant oil from the automotive parts manufacturing industry using bimetallic particles synthesized from industrial waste. Aluminum dross (AD) and shot blast (SB) waste were used to produce four types of bimetallic particles: ADSB1, ADSB2, AlCl3: SB, and AD: FeCl3. These particles were employed as catalysts in the modified air-Fenton (MAF) process to remove high levels of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC), initially at approximately 80,000 mg/L and 40,000 mg/L, respectively. The experiments, designed using response surface methodology (RSM) through Minitab version 19, aimed to determine optimal conditions …

Machine Learning To Predict Outcome Of Inulin Supplementation In Children And Adolescent Obesity From Gut Microbiome Profile And Clinical Factors, Vitavat Aksornkitti
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Obesity is a non-communicable disease that arises from multiple factors, including lifestyle behaviors, dietary habits, and genetics. Despite the growing prevalence of obesity, traditional interventions such as increased physical activity and changes in diet and lifestyle often fail to achieve sustainable, long-term weight loss. Therefore, more effective strategies are needed to address this condition. Recent studies have highlighted the role of gut microbiota in obesity, illustrating that the obesogenic effects are transferable via fecal microbiota transplantation. However, research in this area has been limited, particularly among children in developing countries such as Thailand. Early studies have shown that variations in …

Parameter Tuning Of Information Directed Sampling In Credit Scoring Problems Under Ungeneralizable Contextual Logistic Bandit Model, Sorawit Panjapiyakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates the tuning parameter of Information Directed Sampling (IDS) in credit scoring problems under an ungeneralizable contextual logistic bandit framework. Decision-making scenarios, such as credit scoring and underwriting, involve balancing the tradeoff between exploration and exploitation, which is essential for optimizing learning efficiency in the environment while minimizing costs. The IDS algorithm offers a principled framework that leverages mutual information to enhance the decision-making process. However, its learning performance is dependent on the tuning parameter, denoted as gamma, which plays a key role in balancing information gain and expected regret. Extensive simulation experiments were conducted to identify the …
Narrative Economics As The Origins Of Momentum, Aung Khant Myat
Narrative Economics As The Origins Of Momentum, Aung Khant Myat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates the role of economic narratives in shaping momentum effects in U.S. equity markets from 1984 to 2017. Utilizing narrative attention measures developed by Bybee et al. (2024), we examine how narrative attention and narrative innovation influence both time-series and cross-sectional momentum returns, after adjusting for Fama-French factors. LARS is employed for variable selection, and rolling-window regressions are used to capture time-varying factor loadings. Through a combination of time-series and panel data analysis, we test hypotheses related to static, persistent, and asymmetric narrative effects, along with firm- and market-level moderators. While the results are mixed across subsamples and …
Does Esg Performance Influence Cash Holding Behavior? Evidence From Asia-Pacific Firms, Khin Sandy Kyaw
Does Esg Performance Influence Cash Holding Behavior? Evidence From Asia-Pacific Firms, Khin Sandy Kyaw
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study explores the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and corporate cash holdings among publicly listed firms in the Asia-Pacific region from 2010 to 2023. Grounded in stakeholder theory and the precautionary motive for cash, the analysis examines whether firms with higher ESG performance hold less cash and whether this relationship is moderated by financial constraints and financial distress. Employing panel fixed-effects regression, two-stage least squares (2SLS), and system GMM methods, the results consistently indicate that ESG performance is negatively associated with cash holdings. The moderating analyses reveal that financially constrained or distressed firms with high ESG …

Background & objective: Assessing left atrial (LA) strain has become a significant prognostic indicator in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). This study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of LA strain in acute heart failure patients and its association with adverse outcomes. Methods: A retrospective and prospective analysis was conducted involving patients admitted for acute heart failure from 2014 to 2023. LA strain was measured during hospitalization. Adverse events were defined as a composite of heart failure hospitalization (HHF), urgent heart failure visits, and all-cause mortality. Results: The study population comprised 194 patients. Over a median …

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common malignant tumor in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by complex anatomical features and aggressive behavior. Accurate prognosis prediction plays a crucial role in the optimization of treatment strategies and improvement of patient outcomes. Although recent advances in deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have demonstrated promising results in medical image analysis, the limited availability of annotated medical imaging datasets remains a significant challenge. Transfer learning (TL), particularly using domain-specific pretrained datasets, such as RadImageNet, offers a practical solution to this limitation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of deep transfer learning models …
