Power Curve Evaluation Of Micro-Scale Turbines For Harvesting Wind Energy In Malaysia, Dallatu Abbas U, Sk Tiong, Ammar Ahmed Alkahtani, Cp Chen, Gamal Alkawsi, Janaka Ekanayake
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
With wind energy gaining significant importance in recent years, many countries aspire to harvest this clean and cheap energy. In Malaysia, this goal is affected by slow wind speeds, which usually hinder the installation of wind turbines across the country. In this paper, we conduct a simulation study of the factors that affect wind power generation for several turbines. We use the power curves of five wind turbines (WTs) and compare their production with real wind speed data gathered from Sepang and Mersing regions of Malaysia as a case study. The data were recorded at a 15 m height from …

Recently, several potentially useful computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have become feasible and are now used widely to help physicians in automated cancer detection and grading from dermoscopy images. In this paper, we present a real-time CAD framework using a deep neural network (DNN) for fine-grained classification and grading in dermoscopic skin cancer images. The input skin image is first preprocessed for removing the noise and enhancing the image quality. An adaptive segmentation scheme based on the well-established Otsu thresholding method is performed to accurately extract suspected skin lesion regions from the enhanced input image. Then, a reduced set of visual …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) are the fundamental technology for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) that provides drivers with a safe and comfortable driving environment. However, the inherent openness of the VANETs wireless communication channel calls for careful scrutiny of its security, privacy and efficiency. This paper proposed a New and Efficient Conditional Privacy-Preserving Authentication (NE-CPPA) scheme to secure the communication in VANETs. NE-CPPA uses the Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) algorithm to fulfil the security and privacy requirements. The security analysis of the proposed scheme under various attack scenarios are presented. Then, the computation and communication costs analysis is conducted to …

Sufficient Conditions And Bounding Properties For Control Functions Using Bernstein Expansion, Tareq Hamadneh, Amjed Zraiqat, Mohammed Elbes, Mohammed Elbes
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Bernstein expansion of a polynomial function has linear and quadratic rates of convergence to the original function. In this paper, we extend a direct approximation method by the minimum and maximum Bernstein control points to multivariate polynomials and continuous rational functions over boxes. Furthermore, we explore the rate of convergence and properties of Bernstein basis and illustrate the advantages of this approach through its applications for positivity of nonlinear functions. To this end, sharpness, minimization, degree elevation and convergence properties of polynomials are extended to the multivariate rational polynomial Bernstein case. Subsequently, local and global positive values of control Bernstein …

Propagation Of Rayleigh Waves In Layered Elastic Half-Space With Finite Sliding Contact, Navjot Kaur
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The propagation of Rayleigh waves in an orthotropic elastic half-space underlying an orthotropic elastic layer is analysed. The layer and the half-space are considered in finite sliding contact, for which a parameter ξ,(0 ≤ ξ ≤ 1) has been introduced to represent the sliding contact interfaces. The extreme values of ξ correspond to smooth and perfect contact interface, respectively. It was found that the general dispersion equation exhibiting finite sliding contact between the layer and the half-space depends on the sliding parameter. Frequency equations derived by Vinh et al. [1] and Vinh and Anh [2] have been recovered as particular …

Efficient energy consumption has always been of significant interest to decision-makers in many countries. Awareness, knowledge and a real understanding of proper use of energy patterns is a key element in improving consumption behaviour. Despite the amount of available knowledge on how to save energy, many consumers still fail to take noticeable steps to enhance energy efficiency and conservation. Many significant and innovative studies have been conducted, yet there is still room for more sophisticated approaches to persuade users to optimize energy consumption. Therefore, integrating the Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices such as smart meters and mobile applications in a coherent framework …

A Hybrid Nash Min-Max Approach For Solving Continuous Static Games, Yousria A. Elnaga, Abdullah S. Shalaby, Ali S. Shehab
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper addresses a novel structure of continuous static games (CSGs) called hybrid continuous static games (HCSG). These types of games are based on the fact that the game is presented as a hybrid game between multiple players playing independently using Nash equilibrium solutions (NES) and others playing according to a secure concept using Min-Max solutions (MMS). A Nash Min-Max approach was established to solve such genre games. Also, an algorithm for solving Nash Min-Max hybrid continuous static games (NMMHCSG) has been outlined in clear steps. Moreover, a realistic application of four firms selling replaceable products and seeking to maximize …

Compensator Design For Non-Autonomous Linear Control Systems, Sutrima Sutrima, Christiana Rini Indrati, Lina Aryati
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper contributes to a design of stabilizing compensators for the stabilizable systems in the class. A strongly continuous quasi semigroup approach is implemented as a generalization of a strongly continuous semigroup for autonomous systems. Stability of the non-autonomous linear control system is identified by a uniformly exponential stability of a strongly continuous quasi semigroup on the state space. The results showed that in the infinite-dimensional state space, if the closed-loop non-autonomous linear control system was stabilizable and detectable, there existed an infinite-dimensional stabilizing compensators for the system. The assigned controller is given by u = Fxˆ where xˆ is …

An Efficient Three-Level Explicit Time-Split Approach For Solving Two-Dimensional Heat Conduction Equation, Eric Ngondiep
An Efficient Three-Level Explicit Time-Split Approach For Solving Two-Dimensional Heat Conduction Equation, Eric Ngondiep
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The present paper considers an efficient time-split approach (i.e. a three-level explicit time-split MacCormack scheme) for solving two-dimensional heat conduction equations. Computational cost reduces the two-level explicit MacCormack and splitting. Both stability and convergence of the method are deeply analyzed in L∞(0,T;L2)-norm under a suitable time step restriction. Numerical experiments suggest that the new algorithm is fast, second order accurate in time and fourth order convergent in space. This shows effectiveness of the numerical scheme and improves some well-known results in literature.

Novel Class Of Ordered Separation Axioms Using Limit Points, Tareq M. Al-Shami, M. Abo-Elhamayel
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The paper aims to introduce a novel class of separation axioms on topological ordered spaces, namely Tci -ordered spaces (i = 0, 1 , 1, 1 1 , 2). They are defined by utilizing the notion of limit points of a set. With the aid of some examples, we scrutinize the 22 relationships between them as well as their relationships with strong Ti-ordered and Ti-spaces. Also, we investigate the interrelations between some of the initiated ordered separation axioms and some topological notions such as continuous topological ordered spaces and disconnected spaces. Furthermore, we verify that these ordered separation axioms are …

Modeling Of Tumor-Immune Competitive System With Saturated Incidence, M. Rajalakshmi, Mini Ghosh
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, a non-linear mathematical model for tumor-immune system is formulated and analyzed by considering saturated incidence for the interaction between tumor cells and cytotoxic-T lymphocytes (CTLs). It is assumed that both the tumor cells as well as T-helper cells follow logistic growth. In Addition, a time lag exists in the activation of CTLs because of T-helper cells. Existence and stability of different equilibria of the model are discussed in detail. The model is analyzed using the theory of delay differential equations. It was observed that delay played an important role in defining the dynamics of the system. The …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we present the fractional order model (FOM) for the spread of the PWD. We show that this model possesses non-negative solutions as desired in any population dynamics. We compute the basic reproduction number R0 and illustrate the equilibrium points (EPs) as well as their stability of this model. We apply The Natural-Adomian decomposition method (N-ADM) and fractional Euler method (FEM) to solve this model. The results are compared with those obtained by classical Rung-Kutta (RK4) method in the case of integer order.

Modified Split-Step Theta Milstein Methods For M-Dimensional Stochastic Differential Equation With Respect To Poisson-Driven Jump, Mahmoud A. Eissa, Fenglin Tian, Boping Tian
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Recently, split-step techniques have been integrated with a Milstein scheme to improve the fundamental analysis of numerical solutions of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Unfortunately, we note that stability conditions of these methods have restrictions on parameters and step-size to preserve mean-square stability and A-stability of SDEs. We construct new general modified spit-step theta Milstein (MSSTM) methods for using on multi-dimensional SDEs in order to overcome these restrictions. We investigate that the numerical methods are mean-square (MS) stable with no restrictions on parameters for all step-size h > 0 when θ ∈ [1/2, 1] and it is proved that the methods with …

Time-Convolutionless Master Equation For Multi-Level Open Quantum Systems With Initial System-Environment Correlations, Nikolai N. Bogolyubov, Jr., Andrey V. Soldatov
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Formally exact time-convolutionless master equation was derived by means of the projection operator method for the reduced statistical operator of a multi-level quantum system interacting with arbitrary external deterministic fields and dissipative environment simultaneously. While being closed and homogeneous in the reduced statistical operator, this equation accounts for thermodynamically equilibrium correlations between the multi-level system and the environment at the initial moment of time. On the basis of the exact master equation, an approximate time-convolutionless master equation for the reduced statistical operator was derived in the second order of the system-environment interaction strength. It was shown that the analysis of …

In this paper, we investigate and evaluate a number of novel Laplace-transform based integrals under suitable convergence conditions. In our derivations, we make use of the hypergeometric approach involving algebraic properties of the Pochhammer symbol and classical summation theorems of the hypergeometric series 2F1(1), 2F1(−1) and 4F3(−1). We also obtain the Laplace transforms of arbitrary powers of some finite series, which contain the hyperbolic sine and cosine functions with different arguments, in terms of the hypergeometric and Beta functions. Moreover, we derive the Laplace transforms of the even and odd positive integer powers of the trigonometric sine and cosine functions …
