A Fast Primal-Dual Method For Generalized Total Variation Denoising, Francesc Ar`Andiga, Pep Mulet, Vicent Renau
A Fast Primal-Dual Method For Generalized Total Variation Denoising, Francesc Ar`Andiga, Pep Mulet, Vicent Renau
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Total Variation denoising, proposed by Rudin, Osher and Fatemi in [22], is an image processing variational technique that has attracted considerable attention in the past fifteen years. It is an advantageous technique for preserving image edges but tends to sharpen excessively smooth transitions. With the purpose of alleviating this staircase effect some generalizations of Total Variation denoising have been introduced in [17,18,19]. In this paper we propose a fast and robust algorithm for the solution of the variational problems that generalize Total Variation image denoising [22]. This method extends the primal-dual Newton method, proposed by Chan, Golub and Mulet in …

The Essential Digital Signal Processing In Hf Radar Target Detection, Qianzhao Lei
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The moving target detection with HF radar must go through four steps of signal processing, namely pre-processing, range processing, azimuth processing and subsequent processing. Pre-processing is mainly the low-pass filtering and signal sampling. Range processing, which is used to produce the initial distance information, mainly includes the low-pass filter processing and fast Fourier transform (FFT). Azimuth processing is by using the adaptive beamforming, which in compliance with the linearly constrained minimum variance benchmark, to do the weighted processing; then by doing another FFT, to get a formula with a delta function and a Sinc function, this formula contains the moving …

The critic is appended into the reinforcement adaptive iterative learning controller to generate the simple discrete reinforcement signal, which provides a satisfaction about the tracking performance. In addition, the reinforcement signal can be further applied in the weight adaptation rules. Iterative learning components of the reinforcement adaptive iterative learning controller are designed to …
Unsteady Flow Of A Viscous Fluid Between Two Oscillating Cylinders, Imran Siddique, Sehrish Iftikhar
Unsteady Flow Of A Viscous Fluid Between Two Oscillating Cylinders, Imran Siddique, Sehrish Iftikhar
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The starting solutions corresponding to the motions of a Newtonian fluid, between two infinite circular cylinders, are determined by means of the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. The general case, when both cylinders oscillate along their common axis and around the same axis, is considered. The solutions that have been obtained are presented as sum of the steady-state and transient solutions and satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions. Finally, the resulting shear stresses are also determined. The time required to attain the steady-state has been obtained by means of the graphical illustrations.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the last two decades the mathematical modeling of real-world complex systems has received much attention. These systems are composed by a high number of interacting entities which are able to express a specific strategy. In order to reduce complexity, the whole system is decomposed in different subsystems that are sets of heterogeneous entities having the ability of expressing the same function. The microscopic interactions among the functional subsystems generate the emerging behaviors that are typical of the complex systems. This paper is concerned with suitable developments of the methods of mathematical kinetic theory for active particles for the modeling …

On Construction Of Symmetric Compactly Supported Biorthogonal Multiwavelets With Short Sequences, Yi-Gang Cen, Li-Hui Cen, Xiao-Fang Chen
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A novel approach for constructing symmetric compactly supported biorthogonal multiwavelets with short sequences is proposed in this paper. For some symmetric types of biorthogonal multiwavelet systems, starting from the symmetric properties of scaling and wavelet functions, parameterized symmetric forms of polyphase matrices can be derived. Furthermore, according to the matrix equations of the perfect reconstruction condition, the parameters of polyphase matrices can be reduced, which finally leads to our proposed algorithm for the construction of symmetric compactly supported biorthogonal multiwavelets with short sequences.

A Projected Gradient Method For A High-Order Model In Image Restoration Problems, Zhi-Feng Pang, Baoli Shi, Lihong Huang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Based on the augmented Lagrangian strategy, we propose a projected gradient method for solving the high-order model in image restoration problems. Based on the Berm`udez and Moreno (BM) algorithm, the convergence of the proposed method is proved. We also give the relationship that the semi-implicit gradient descent method can be deduced from the projected gradient method. Some numerical experiments are arranged to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method for restoring the gray-level and color images.

Well-Posedness Of The Modified Crank-Nicholson Difference Schemes In C, Allaberen Ashyralyev
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the present paper the modified Crank-Nicholson difference schemes for the approximate solutions of the nonlocal boundary value problem v 0 (t) + Av(t) = f(t)(0 ≤ t ≤ 1), v(0) = v(λ) + µ, 0 < λ ≤ 1 for differential equations in an arbitrary Banach space E with the strongly positive operator A are considered. The well-posedness of these difference schemes in C β,γ τ (E) and Ce β,γ τ (E) spaces is established. In applications, the coercive stability estimates for the solutions of difference schemes of the second order of accuracy over time and of an arbitrary order of accuracy over space variables in the case of the nonlocal boundary value problem for the 2mth-order multidimensional parabolic equation are obtained
Robust Stability And Stabilization Of Nonlinear Uncertain Stochastic Switched Discrete-Time Systems With Interval Time-Varying Delays, G. Rajchakit
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper is concerned with robust stability and stabilization of nonlinear uncertain stochastic switched discrete time-delay systems. The system to be considered is subject to interval time-varying delays, which allows the delay to be a fast time-varying function and the lower bound is not restricted to zero. Based on the discrete Lyapunov functional, a switching rule for the robust stability and stabilization for the nonlinear uncertain stochastic discrete time-delay system is designed via linear matrix inequalities. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the results.

A Computation-Efficient Three-Party Encrypted Key Exchange Protocol, Cheng-Chi Lee, Shun-Der Chen, Chin-Ling Chen
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Recently, Chen et al. proposed a three-party encrypted key exchange (3PEKE) protocol with password authentication which is called CCLC-3PEKE. The protocol simultaneously possesses round and computation efficiencies. However, the protocol is vulnerable to replaying attacks. Since the protocol is currently one of the most superior of all 3PEKE protocols, it seems valuable to remedy the security weakness and enhance their efficiency. Hence, we shall propose an efficient 3PEKE (L-3PEKE) scheme. Compare with other 3PEKE protocols, our proposed L-3PEKE is more secure and efficient.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Fast evaluation of oscillatory integrals is an issue attracts much attention in many fields. In this paper, we are interested in the calculation of canonical oscillatory integrals, and the irregular oscillatory integrals are transformed into canonical ones with respect to the presences of stationary phase points or not. An improved-Levin method is proposed to calculated the canonical oscillatory integral, where the eigen-decomposition is employed to solve the target system of linear equation, and a much higher efficiency is yielded in comparison with the direct solution methods such as the Gaussian elimination.

The study analyses and deduces in detail phase offsets and the compensation technology under the condition of noninteger multiple of the multipath delay and non-integer multiple of the number of pilot. The simulation results show that …

System Reliability Allocation Based On Bayesian Network, Wenxue Qian, Xiaowei Yin, Liyang Xie
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, system reliability allocation using BN(Bayesian Network) was researched. The relationship between system failure and component failure can be expressed by probability importance degree, structure importance degree and key importance degree in FTA (Fault Tree Analysis). BN supplies a new method to reflect the importance of components in system. That is the conditional failure probability which points out the most possible reason of system failure and is more reasonable and reliable. Some examples are given to allocate the reliability of systems by BN and the results show that BN is useful and effective.

Generalization Of Belief And Plausibility Functions To Fuzzy Sets, Jianyu Xiao, Minming Tong, Qi Fan, Su Xiao
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In order to process the fuzzy and imprecise information in the evidential reasoning, the scholars have made many attempts to generalize belief and plausibility functions based on the Dempster-Shafer(D-S) evidence theory to fuzzy sets for many decades. A new method for defining the fuzzy closeness degree is put forward in this paper. Based on the closeness degree, another generalization of belief and plausibility functions to fuzzy sets is proposed which discards the max and min operators in foregoing generalizations according to the measure of fuzzy inclusion. We then make the comparisons of the proposed extension with some methods available. The …
