Graph Coloring Based Optimized Algorithm For Resource Utilization In Examination Scheduling, Sandeep Saharan, Ravinder Kumar
Graph Coloring Based Optimized Algorithm For Resource Utilization In Examination Scheduling, Sandeep Saharan, Ravinder Kumar
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Time table scheduling in any organization requires efficient allocation of constrained resources in an organized manner so that no conflict arises. This paper presents a novice method for optimized utilization of resources (for e.g. rooms, teachers, and time slots etc.) in an examination timetable using graph coloring, which clearly shows how examination can be scheduled efficiently. The approach designed in this paper has been discussed in two parts. Under first approach, examinations are removed from the independent set obtained by graph coloring if the total students in examinations are more than the available seats, in all rooms of the institution. …
Linear Matrix Inequality Approach To Robust H¥ Fuzzy Speed Control Design For Brushless Dc Motor System, Wudhichai Assawinchaichote, Nattapat Chayaopas
Linear Matrix Inequality Approach To Robust H¥ Fuzzy Speed Control Design For Brushless Dc Motor System, Wudhichai Assawinchaichote, Nattapat Chayaopas
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper examines the problem of designing a robust fuzzy speed controller of Brushless DC (BLDC) motors which is described by a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. Based on a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, LMI-based sufficient conditions for BLDC motor to have an H¥ performance are derived. The proposed approach can overcome the nonlinearity and disturbances problems, while a conventional controller may suffer in controlling the motor speed due to some disturbance and nonlinearity of the BLDC motor. Finally, the effectiveness of the designed approach is demonstrated that the proposed methodology is provided a high performance robust control system for …

Evidence Based Decision And Meta-Analysis With Applications In Cancer Research Studies, Shahjahan Khan, Suhail A R Doi, M Ashraf Memon
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the age of evidence based decision making through a systematic review of the literature, statistical meta-analysis has been extensively used to synthesise published summary data on a particular topic of interest from a number of independent studies in order to make credible and scientifically valid conclusions. The main objective is to estimate the common effect size as a pooled statistic for any selected outcome variables from the relevant data. There are several issues concerning the quality and type of the published summary statistics and inherent heterogeneity among the estimates of the effect size across the studies. This paper covers …

Problem Of Hydroelectric Resources Management: Numerical Approach, V. A. Bushenkov, M. M. A. Ferreira, A. F. Ribeiro, G. V. Smirnov
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this work we analyze an optimal control problem for a system of two hydroelectric power stations in cascade with reversible turbines. The objective is to optimize the profit of power production while respecting the system’s restrictions. Some of these restrictions translate into state constraints and the cost function is nonconvex. This increases the complexity of the optimal control problem. The problem is solved numerically and two different approaches are adopted. These approaches focus on global optimization techniques (Chen-Burer algorithm) and on a projection estimation refinement method (PERmethod). PERmethod is used as a technique to reduce the dimension of the …

A New Approach To The Construction Of The Apf Algorithm By Applying The Pearson Curves Technique, Katarzyna Brzozowska-Rup, Antoni Leon Dawidowicz
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We consider the theoretical question concerning time series which arises when the distribution of the observed variable is in fact a conditional distribution. The Kalman filter provides an effective solution to the linear Gaussian filtering problem. However, when state or measurement, or both, are highly non-linear, and posterior probability distribution of the state is non-Gaussian, the optimal linear filter and its modifications do not provide satisfactory results. The Sequential Monte Carlo method (SMC) have become one of the familiar tools that allowed the Bayesian paradigm to be applied to approximation of sophisticated models. In this paper we propose a novel …

Direct Search Firefly Algorithm For Solving Global Optimization Problems, Mohamed A. Tawhid, Ahmed F. Ali
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we propose a new hybrid algorithm for solving global optimization problems, namely, integer programming and minimax problems. The main idea of the proposed algorithm, Direct Search Firefly Algorithm (DSFFA), is to combine the firefly algorithm with direct search methods such as pattern search and Nelder-Mead methods. In the proposed algorithm, we try to balance between the global exploration process and the local exploitation process. The firefly algorithm has a good ability to make a wide exploration process while the pattern search can increase the exploitation capability of the proposed algorithm. In the final stage of the proposed …

Harvesting Strategies For “Bianchetti” And “Blue Fish” In The Ligurian Sea (North Mediterranean), Samrat Chatterjee, Daniela Pessani, Ezio Venturino
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A three level trophic fish web model is proposed, consisting of clupeiforms pilchard (Sardina pilchardus) and anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), at the bottom, mackerel (Scomber scombrus) in the intermediate trophic level and tunny (Thunnus thynnus) as top predators. The model includes human harvesting. The clupeiforms population is further partitioned into three age classes, eggs, larvae and the adult fishes to account for possible cannibalism but mainly for the fact that these larvae in the Mediterranean countries are highly appreciated as a delicacy for human consumption. In the absence of fisheries, to prevent total extinction and maintaining coexistence it is important that …
Integration Mapping Rules: Transforming Relational Database To Semantic Web Ontology, Mohamed A. G. Hazber, Ruixuan Li, Xiwu Gu
Integration Mapping Rules: Transforming Relational Database To Semantic Web Ontology, Mohamed A. G. Hazber, Ruixuan Li, Xiwu Gu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Semantic integration became an attractive area of research in several disciplines, such as information integration, databases and ontologies. Huge amount of data is still stored in relational databases (RDBs) that can be used to build ontology, and the database cannot be used directly by the semantic web. Therefore, one of the main challenges of the semantic web is mapping relational databases to ontologies (RDF(S)-OWL). Moreover, the use of manual work in the mapping of web contents to ontologies is impractical because it contains billions of pages and the most of these contents are generated from relational databases. Hence, we propose …

Improved Active Web Service Recommendation Based On Usage History, Guosheng Kang, Jianxun Liu, Mingdong Tang, Buqing Cao, Yu Xu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
With the increasing adoption and presence of Web services, how to recommend Web services to users that satisfy their potential functional and non-functional requirements effectively has become an important and challenging research issue. In this paper, we propose an enhanced Web service recommendation approach, named iAWSR (improved Active Web Service Recommendation), that explores service usage history of users to actively recommend Web services for them. In iAWSR, we propose new methods for computing functional similarity and non-functional similarity of Web service candidates, and a hybrid metric of similarity is developed by combining the two sources of similarity measurement. iAWSR then …

Some Mathematical Analytic Arguments For Determining Valid Optimal Lot Size For Deteriorating Items With Limited Storage Capacity Under Permissible Delay In Payments, Jui-Jung Liao, Kuo-Nan Huang, Kun-Jen Chung, Pin-Shou Ting, Shy-Der Lin, H. M. Srivastava
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the year 2011, Y. Liang and F. Zhou presented an inventory model with two levels of storages, in which one has finite dimension and the other has infinite dimension, and with conditionally permissible delay in payments. In essence, it concentrated on the establishment of the inventory model, but did not concentrate on the validity of the processes of finding the optimal solution from the viewpoint of logic. In addition, it ignored whether the case of the trade credit period, M, is greater than the time interval and whether the order quantity is greater thanW units or not, so the …

A Descent Resolvent Method For Mixed Quasi Variational Inequalities, Fatimazahra Benssi, Abdellah Bnouhachem, Ali Ou-Yassine, Muhammad Aslam Noor
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we suggest and analyze a new iterative method for solving mixed quasi variational inequalities. The new iteration is obtained by searching the optimal step size along the integrated descent direction from two descent directions. Global convergence of the proposal method is proved under certain assumptions. Our results can be treated as refinement of previously known results. An example is given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

On Generalized Statistically Convergent Functions Via Ideals, Ekrem Savas
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we introduce the notions of [V,l ]-summability and l−statistical convergence of function by taking a nonnegative real-valued Lebesque measurable function in the interval (1,¥) and introduce new notions, namely, [V,l ] (I)− summability, and Il−statistical convergence of function. We mainly examine the relation between these two new methods.
Weak Pseudo-Invexity And Characterizations Of Solutions In Multiobjective Programming, Hachem Slimani, Mohammed Said Radjef
Weak Pseudo-Invexity And Characterizations Of Solutions In Multiobjective Programming, Hachem Slimani, Mohammed Said Radjef
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we study Fritz John type optimality for nonlinear multiobjective programming problems under new classes of generalized invex vector functions. Relationships between these classes of vector functions are established by giving several examples. Furthermore, optimality conditions and characterizations of efficient and weakly efficient solutions are obtained under weak pseudoinvexity and by using a concept of generalized Fritz John vector critical point. We have illustrated through various non-trivial examples that the results obtained in this paper extend many previously known results in this area.

Cuckoo Search Inspired Hybridization Of The Nelder- Mead Simplex Algorithm Applied To Optimization Of Photovoltaic Cells, Raka Jovanovic, Sabre Kais, Fahhad H Alharbi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A new hybridization of the Cuckoo Search (CS) is developed and applied to optimize multi-cell solar systems; namely multi-junction and split spectrum cells. The new approach consists of combining the CS with the Nelder-Mead method. More precisely, instead of using single solutions as nests for the CS, we use the concept of a simplex which is used in the Nelder-Mead algorithm. This makes it possible to use the flip operation introduces in the Nelder-Mead algorithm instead of the Levy flight which is a standard part of the CS. In this way, the hybridized algorithm becomes more robust and less sensitive …

Approximate Analytical Solution By Residual Power Series Method For System Of Fredholm Integral Equations, Iryna Komashynska, Mohammed Al-Smadi, Ali Ateiwi, Sadoon Al-Obaidy
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we present a new analytical technique for obtaining the analytical approximate solutions for system of Fredholm integral equations based on the use of the residual power series method (RPSM). The proposed method provides the solution in terms of convergent series with easily computable components, as well as it possesses main advantage as compared to other existed methods; it can be applied without any limitation or linearization on the nature of the problem, type of classification, and the number of mesh points. In this sense, some examples are given to demonstrate the simplicity and efficiency of the proposed …
Rate Of Convergence For A Fully-Discrete Reliable Scheme For A System Of Nonlinear Time-Dependent Joule Heating Equations, Pius W. M. Chin
Rate Of Convergence For A Fully-Discrete Reliable Scheme For A System Of Nonlinear Time-Dependent Joule Heating Equations, Pius W. M. Chin
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
An initial-boundary value problem for a system of decoupled two nonlinear time-dependent Joule heating equations is studied. Instead of well-known standard techniques, we design a reliable scheme consisting of coupling the non-standard finite difference (NSFD) method in time and finite element method (FEM) in space. We prove the rate of convergence for the fully-discrete scheme in both H1 as well as the L2-norms. Furthermore, we show that the above scheme preserves the properties of the exact solution. Numerical experiments are provided to confirm our theoretical analysis.

New Basis For Solving Fractional Order Models On Semi-Infinite Intervals, Mehdi Shahini, Hojatollah Adibi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this note, we apply a numerical method to solve viscoelastic models involving fractional derivatives. Our method generalizes rational Legendre collocation scheme. It uses new functions named “fractional rational Legendre functions” as the basis. The new basis convergence more rapidly than rational Legendre functions in solving fractional differential equations. Numerical results show the efficiency and performance of the new basis in comparison with rational Legendre functions.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper elucidates a possible method to model additive type of functional equations using eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices with suitable numerical examples. In order to model a functional equation the author has defined a new type of Consecutive Column Matrix(CCM) and discussed its eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The author has also modelled a famous additive Cauchy functional equation using identity matrix.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we define a new fractional integral operator in complex z-plane C. We are also interested a fractional integration operator to be compact and bounded, provide some examples in Bergmann spaces. By considering the properties of Gauss hypergeometric function we study the univalence and convexity for the new operator. Finally, we follow modification formal to ensure existence for this operator to be in class of univalent function in U.

Probability Based Fast Inter Mode Decision Algorithm For H.264/Avc, Md. Salah Uddin Yusuf, M. I. Hossain, M. M. Rahman, M. Ahmad, N. Ahmed, M. A. Rashid
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, a new probability based fast inter mode decision algorithm is proposed for H.264/AVC video standard. The main idea is to classify the inter modes into large and small modes category and determine which one is suitable for a macroblock (MB). Depending on this, the probability of each large mode corresponding to the initial Hadamard cost or the probability of each small mode corresponding to the initial Hadamard cost is determined. Then the best mode can be obtained from their probability characteristics. Thus, it is possible to determine the best inter mode only by calculating the Hadamard Transform …

Generalized Order Statistics With Random Indices In A Stationary Gaussian Sequence, Haroon M. Barakat, El-Sayed M. Nigm, Esraa O. Abo Zaid
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we study the limit distributions of extreme, intermediate and central m-generalized order statistics (gos), as well as m-dual generalized order statistics (dgos), of a stationary Gaussian sequence (sGs) under equi-correlated set up, when the random sample size is assumed to converge weakly. Moreover, the result of extremes is extended to a wide subclass of gos (as well as dgos) which contains the most important models of ordered random variables (rv’s).
Thermal Effects On Propagation Of Transverse Waves In Anisotropic Incompressible Dissipative Pre-Stressed Plate, M. M. Selim
Thermal Effects On Propagation Of Transverse Waves In Anisotropic Incompressible Dissipative Pre-Stressed Plate, M. M. Selim
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper an attempt has been made to find a simple form of the thermal effects on transverse waves propagating in an anisotropic incompressible dissipative pre-stressed plate in the context of Biot’s theory. The governing equations are derived and the velocities of propagation as well as damping are discussed. The influences of changes in anisotropy-type, initial and thermal stresses are discussed. Analytical analysis reveals that the velocities of the transverse waves depend upon the anisotropy as well as the initial and thermal stresses present in the medium. Numerical computation shows that the variation in the parameters associated with anisotropy …

Relationship And Accuracy Analyses Of Variable Precision Multi-Granulation Rough Sets Based On Tolerance Relation, Chen Wu, Youquan Xu, Wei Xu, Lijuan Wang, Xibei Yang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper discusses the properties of optimistic, pessimistic and basic approximations of rough sets in ordinary and variable precise multi-granulation models and the ones produced by using union and intersection operations on multi-property relations deeply, and analyzes the relationships between or among them. It explores the approximate accuracy formulas and finds several inequalities to describe their relationships of those approximate accuracy formulas. It proves that approximation accuracy of incomplete variable precision multi-granulation rough sets based on tolerance relation is higher than the non-variable ones.

Finding “Improvement Region” For The Inefficient Units In Data Envelopment Analysis, Sh. Banihashemi, M. Sanei, A. Gholamabri, F. Sourani
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
One of the most important issues in data envelopment analysis is sensitivity analysis of efficient and inefficient decision making units (DMUs). Sensitivity analysis of inefficient units has been more studied recently. We know that a specific inefficient DMUcan scarcely reach to the efficient frontier and achieving the score 1 in efficiency but it can easily obtain an efficiency score of a (a is a constant which is usually closed to 1 and defined by the decision maker). In this paper we are going to find a region which named Improvement Region (IR) for a specific inefficient DMU which can obtain …
Predictive Inference From The Exponentiated Weibull Model Given Adaptive Progressive Censored Data, Abdullah Y. Al-Hossain
Predictive Inference From The Exponentiated Weibull Model Given Adaptive Progressive Censored Data, Abdullah Y. Al-Hossain
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Adaptive progressive censoring schemes have been shown to be useful in striking a balance between statistical estimation efficiency and the time spent on a life-testing experiment. In this paper, the problem of predicting the future order statistics and future upper record values based on observed adaptive progressive Type-II censored samples from exponentiated Weibull (EW) distribution is addressed. Using the Bayesian approach and the two-sample scheme, the predictive and survival functions are derived and then the interval predictions of the future samples are obtained. Two-sample Bayesian predictive survival function can not be obtained in closedform and so Gibbs sampling procedure is …
