Objective: Sex differences in short-term outcomes of patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) have been reported but differences in long-term outcomes remain poorly characterized. This study aims to evaluate sex differences in long-term mortality, venous thromboembolism (VTE)-related mortality, and bleeding-related mortality in patients with DVT at a tertiary care center.

Methods: A retrospective chart review from 2012 – 2018 of all consecutive patients diagnosed with DVT was performed. The cranial morphology of single-suture metopic craniosynostosis is defined by trigonocephaly, hypotelorism, and bitemporal narrowing. The severity of deformity may be defined radiographically based on computed tomography imaging. The radiographic severity of metopic synostosis has been suggested as a possible predictor of long-term neurocognitive outcomes, making it a potentially useful variable in determining which patients will benefit from surgery. Clinical trials are key to the advancement of products and procedures related to musculoskeletal conditions. Unfortunately, many trials are terminated prior to completion. ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry and results database maintained by the National Library of Medicine that catalogs trial characteristics and tracks overall recruitment status (e.g., ongoing, completed, terminated) for each study as well as reasons for termination. Reasons for termination have not been specifically evaluated for musculoskeletal trials and those related to the spine and shoulder/elbow were selected for characterization and assessment of independent predictors of termination by comparing characteristics of completed and terminated trials.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a heterogeneous disease that typically arises in the setting of chronic liver disease, making treatment selection complex. Multidisciplinary liver tumor boards (MDLTB) have been shown to improve outcomes in patients with HCC. However, in many cases, patients evaluated by MDLTBs ultimately do not receive the board’s recommended treatment. In this paper, we performed a single-site, retrospective cohort study of patients with HCC who were evaluated by an MDLTB. Background: Soil-transmitted helminthiases (STH) are amongst the most common diseases of poverty worldwide despite mass deworming campaigns. However, widespread use of benzimidazole anthelminthics in these campaigns has been associated with variable efficacy against three of the most common STHs, thus raising concerns regarding emerging resistance. Albendazole, in particular, has been shown to be least effective against Trichuris trichiura.

The aim of this project was to evaluate the concordance among study characteristics, results, and interpretations described in preprints of clinical studies that are subsequently published in peer-reviewed journals (preprint-journal article pairs).

In this cross-sectional analysis, preprints posted on medRxiv in September 2020 were identified. Four evaluators determined how many preprints were subsequently published in peer-reviewed journals as of September 2022, calculating the time from preprint posting to publication. For preprints with multiple versions, the most recent version prior to journal acceptance was selected. Preprints updated after journal acceptance were excluded. PURPOSE: It is unclear what role sociodemographic predictors have on the subtype-specific survival patterns of patients with low-grade gliomas. Understanding these effects may help guide and improve public health intervention strategies for patients with this relatively rare, understudied condition. METHODS: Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program, we identified adult cases (aged 20-79 years) diagnosed with a World Health Organization Central Nervous System grade II supratentorial astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, or mixed glioma between 1975-2019. Kaplan-Meier estimates and multivariable Cox models were utilized to assess factors associated with survival. RESULTS: The final cohort included 4,684 adult grade II glioma cases with …
