Chronic liver disease (CLD) is a major global health problem, leading to an estimatedtwo million annual deaths worldwide. Advances in next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies have revolutionized our ability to diagnose and investigate disease pathogenesis. Our research group has previously shown that genomic analysis is useful in the diagnosis of patients with unexplained CLD, providing a diagnostic yield of up to 30%. In Kazakhstan, the prevalence of HIV among PWID is higher than for any other key population. Opioid agonist therapies like methadone are the only evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder and thus are crucial tools for HIV prevention. The choroid plexus (ChP) secretes a half-liter/day of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and is the blood-CSF barrier with critical immune functions. Hydrocephalus, commonly caused by infection or hemorrhage, lacks non-surgical treatments due to obscure pathobiology. We hypothesize that in acquired hydrocephalus, the dual ChP functions of CSF secretion and blood-CSF barrier maintenance become pathologically entangled in a maladaptive disease state. Early identification of recurrent bleeding may improve patient management and outcomes, especially for patients on anticoagulant, antiplatelet, and antithrombotic therapies who experience acute upper GIB. Recent studies suggest that permanent pacemaker implantation after tricuspid valve repair may be more common than previously thought. Our primary aim was to assess the rates of early (within 30 days of surgery) and late (more than 30 days after surgery) permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) after tricuspid valve repair (TVr) surgery. Our secondary aims included exploring risk factors for PPI after TVr and assessing outcomes.

We performed a retrospective analysis of 231 isolated and concomitant tricuspid valve repairs for primary and secondary tricuspid valve regurgitation at a single quaternary academic center performed from 2014–2022.
