In a fast moving world, reading ability becomes increasingly more important. Despite television, radio, and movies, reading is still the most important method of broadening our horizons (5, p. 125). To scan the world events and study the particulars requires good reading skills. Again and again the question is asked if the best possible method of reading instruction is being utilized with our boys and girls (1, p. 79 and 4, pp. 169-170). An Analysis Of Cytological Screening For Cervical Cancer (A 7 Year Survey), Phoebe E. Rutherford

Introduction

It is the purpose of this study to review the cervical cancers, stained by Papanicolaou (1956:3-6) method, at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from September, 1956 to September 1963.

A previous analysis of the cytological screening at Borgess Hospital to ascertain the per coat accuracy in cervical diagnoses, was made by the investigator in June, 1961. This study, covering a four year period, draw attention to the fact that the patients with invasive carcinoma were in a much older age group than any other reported series studies. The Effect Of Thrust On The Development Of Strength With The Mead Refiner, G. Hayward

Paper Engineering Senior Theses

Several different thrust pressures were exerted on the plates of the Mead Laboratory Refiner and pulp samples were refined over a wide freeness range for each of the several pressures. The strength characteristics developed were measured and it was found that maximum burst and tensile strength was developed by a thrust pressure of 31.22 pounds. Maximum tearing strength was developed at a thrust pressure of 25.94 pounds.

The refining time required to reach a given freeness increased as as the thrust was reduced, but reached a maximum at 20.66 pounds and remained constant for lesser pressures.

Not long ago after reading many articles dealing with an individualized approach to reading, the writer was challenged to attempt this "new method" with a selected group of students. These children were to be given an opportunity to select their own materials for their instruction and to participate in individual conferences with the teach er. This paper is a brief account of the writer's experience.

This research problem was done in connection with the fluoride balance studies on twelve children at Plymouth State Home. The retention balance studies of fluoride by children can be studied indirectly by measuring the amounts of fluoride excreted in the urine and feces after administration of the fluoride in water or in vitamins as sodium fluoride. The fluoride balance study was repeated, because in the previous study (19), there were no samples collected for a base day in which the fluoride was not given.
