Reading Tests Don't Really Tell It Like It Is, George D. Masters
Reading Tests Don't Really Tell It Like It Is, George D. Masters
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Reading, at one time the hallmark of the educated man, is now the bugbear of the modem school. In other ages it was recognized that there were some children who didn't want to read, never wanted to read, and never would want to read. Today, such a student is spurred, goaded, and hounded till he either learns to read for self preservation, drops out of school, or confronted with failure, lets the world see the only R's he has learned, the wrong R's-resistance, rejection, and rebellion.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
A remarkable French book which deals comprehensively with the different aspects of reading is La Lisibilite by Frangois Richaudeau, published in Paris by Denoel-Gontier in 1969. The title of this book immediately brings up a common problem in translation. Every serious student of language knows that very frequently the corresponding or supposedly equivalent words in different languages do not have quite the same meaning. While they may have considerable basic relationship, one may cover more or less ground than the other, and they do not come to the idea from the same angle of approach.

Meeting Individual Differences In Reading, Ronald G. Noland
Meeting Individual Differences In Reading, Ronald G. Noland
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Perhaps the most complex as well as the most important task con fronting the teacher is adjusting instruction to meet the individual differences of students in activities related to reading. It is an ever present problem at all grade levels. For effective progress in learning to read, the teacher must organize the class and instructional procedures so that each child has the opportunity to achieve up to his capacity, albeit it is not his grade level.

Masters Theses
The original purpose of this study was to teach college students to write psychology laboratory reports. A programmed text on how to draw a graph that would meet the publication requirements as specified by the American Psychological Association was written and tested on a small sample of psychology stidents. Results showed that the rules were not adequate discriminative stimuli for controlling behavior. It was necessary to give the students discrimination training with examples related to those rules. There was a high percent of errors on rules that pertained to the concepts of the independent and dependent variables, and the task …
