Transcript of interview by Brent Bjorkman with Bob Cetera about his experiences as a park ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park. In 2013, Kentucky Folklife Program Director Brent Bjorkman received the Archie Green Fellowship from the Library of Congress to look more intimately at the life stories of the working men and women employed by Mammoth Cave National Park. Part of Folklife Archives Project 1098 titled "Rangerlore: The Occupational Folklife of Parks."

As curious people, we find ourselves asking “how?” My research investigates the “how” of dance by exploring the individual and natural abilities of a dancer’s anatomy and utilizing them through movement. Challenging the individual limits of the human body is a vital aspect of what makes a dancer a thinking artist. For example, recognizing the uniqueness of the hip socket as it relates to a dancer’s turn out and flexibility can help in understanding its effect on movement from one dancer to the next. Finding aid, scan and typescript (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 2708. Handwritten memorandum and notes of Elizabeth Robertson Coombs relating to Emanie (Nahm) Sachs and her 1960 book A Pot With Feeling: Flower Paintings, With a Short Autobiography. Coombs compares the paintings in the book unfavorably with those of another local artist, and remarks critically on Emanie’s personality and motivation.

Two skits by Beatrice Irene (Isenberg) Wheeler, written in 1988 and 1989, based on her childhood experiences in Northtown, a very small Hart County, Kentucky community. My sabbatical research took place in Seville, Spain studying the art of Flamenco dancing. Flamenco is a Spanish folk dance filled with vigorous and passionate movements that has a unique tradition.

Kentucky Humanities Council Catalog

The Kentucky Humanities Council is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities committed to providing programs and services that facilitate an understanding and appreciation of Kentucky’s cultural heritage and future. The Council’s program catalog features scholars from across the Commonwealth who make presentations on a myriad of humanities topics. Later, costumed actors, who delivered dramatic monologues about Kentucky’s famous, infamous, and composite personalities, were added. The catalog has gone by various titles over the years: Kentucky Humanities Resource Center, Kentucky Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, Whole Humanities Catalog, and Humanities Catalog. This …
