Basic Measurements Of Division 1 Collegiate Baseball Pitchers To Predict Grip Strength And Spin Rate, Kase J. Pennartz, Emma Bozarth, Lyric Richardson, Amy Riera, Matt Laurent, Micheal Luera

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Basic measurements such as range of motion (ROM), grip strength (GS), height, and arm length have been associated with the rate that the ball spins. Increased spin rate along with the axis of rotation of a baseball is linked to the movement that a pitch experiences during its delivery. This spin rate gives a batter difficulty when trying to contact the ball. Plainly, the more spin the more likely the chance the batter will miss. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to use external range of motion (EROM), GS, height, weight, forearm length, and forearm circumference to predict …

Effect Of Treadmill Surface Stiffness On The Running Economy Benefits Of A Highly-Cushioned Racing Shoe: A Pilot Study, Zane A. Thornton, Dustin P. Joubert

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Running economy (RE) is defined as the oxygen consumption (VO2) at a given running speed. The Nike Vaporfly line of racing shoes, which includes more compliant and resilient midsole foam and a carbon-fiber plate, have been shown to improve RE during treadmill testing. Previous research suggests that RE in general is worse on treadmills with stiffer running platforms. However, it is unclear if the magnitude of the RE benefits provided by these new shoes relative to a control shoe differ based on treadmill stiffness. Given that some treadmill platforms allow more flex or compliance, this may be an …
