Evaluation Of Noise Levels Experienced By Medically Fragile Neonates During Emergency Helicopter Transport, Jennifer Lynn Johnson
Independent Studies and Capstones
There was a concern medically fragile infants may be exposed to high noise levels during emergency helicopter transport. This study had been initiated in 2007. Data was collected using a Larson Davis noise dosimeter. The purpose of this study was to collect additional data to evaluate the noise exposure experienced by medically fragile neonates during emergency transport via helicopter inbound/outbound of St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO. The results suggested neonates may be exposed to noise levels ranging 85 to 95 dBA during transport. These high noise exposures may pose a risk to hearing.

The present study assessed the role of beta-synuclein in auditory function, and potential interactions between isoforms.
Research On Theory Of Mind In Deaf Education, Ashley Beauchemin
Research On Theory Of Mind In Deaf Education, Ashley Beauchemin
Independent Studies and Capstones
Prior research has shown that theory of mind (ToM) development is delayed in children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Although research has demonstrated a delay in ToM development in children who are deaf and hard of hearing there are not many suggestions for how ToM is or should be addressed in deaf education. The current research addressed this issue by compiling an extensive literature review and sending 113 surveys’ to OPTION schools for the deaf around the country.

The Effect Of Talker Age And Gender On Speech Perception Of Pediatric Hearing Aid Users, Elizabeth J. Robinson
Independent Studies and Capstones
Even though pediatric hearing aid (HA) users listen most often to female talkers, clinically-used speech tests primarily consist of adult male talkers' speech. Potential effects of age and/or gender of the talker on speech perception of pediatric HA users were examined using two speech tests, hVd-vowel identification and CNC word recognition, and using speech materials spoken by four talker types (adult males, adult females, 10-12 year old girls, and 5-7 year old girls). For the nine pediatric HA users tested, word scores for the male talker's speech were higher than those for the female talkers, indicating that talker type can …
