Publishing With Purpose: Exploring Publication Trends Among Counselor Education In Cacrep-Accredited Programs, Janita Whitney Daggy

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Scholarly publication is a cornerstone of faculty evaluation, professional identity, and knowledge development in counselor education. Despite calls for empirical investigation into publication trends, limited research has examined the scope, distribution, and impact of counselor educator scholarship across Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This quantitative, cross-sectional bibliometric study examined publication trends, thematic alignment, and citation patterns among 222 counselor educators across 25 CACREP-accredited doctoral programs from 2000 to 2026. Using GS profiles as the primary data source, bibliographic records from 4,876 peer-reviewed publications across 2,132 journals were extracted and analyzed using the Bibliometrix package, igraph, …

Refuting Ruscism: A Critique From Biblical Social Ontology, Paul Miles May 2026

Refuting Ruscism: A Critique From Biblical Social Ontology, Paul Miles

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation argues that the ideology of Ruscism is incompatible with biblical Christianity on the basis of God’s design for the individual, the family, and the country. Indeed, the extent of incompatibility between these two worldviews renders any attempt to syncretize them a significant departure from biblical Christianity. God’s design for society is an absolute standard by which political ideologies may be evaluated, and these three societal units will suffice to demonstrate that Christians must reject Ruscism.

This dissertation will describe these three societal units—the individual, the family, and the country—as they are described in biblical Christianity and contrast their …

Center for Translational Medicine Faculty Papers

MCU, originally known as CCDC109A, is widely recognized as the gene responsible for encoding a pore-forming subunit of a Ca2+-selective channel, mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter complex (mtCUC). While MCU expression is typically highly mitochondrial-specific, we report here a protein variant derived from the MCU gene, termed MCU-S, which lacks the mitochondria-targeting sequence (MTS) and forms a Ca2+-permeable channel outside of mitochondria. The mRNA of MCU-S was ubiquitously expressed in all cell types/tissues tested, with particularly high expression in human platelets. MCU-S protein formed Ca2+ channels at the plasma membrane, which exhibited similar channel properties to those observed in mtCUC. MCU-S channels …

Impact Of Dissolved Organic Carbon And Temperature On Phytoplankton Biomass In An Outdoor Study, Ruaa Abass Lafta, Mohammed Hamdan

Baghdad Science Journal

Altered environmental conditions in aquatic ecosystems through Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) input and increased temperature influence phytoplankton communities. To assess the impacts of climate change as both single and combined effects of DOC inputs and temperature on phytoplankton growth, we conducted an outdoor experiment including four sets of conditions in triplicate: a) control, b) DOC treatment, c) temperature treatment, and d) DOC and temperature treatment. We added 10 mg/L of glucose (C6H12O6) as a source of DOC. The warming treatment increased the water temperature by 3°C above the control (p-value < 0.05). The DOC treatment significantly affected pH, CO2, and DOC …

Hyperthyroidism In A Twin Pregnancy With A Complete Hydatidiform Mole And Coexisting Fetus: A Case Report, Saadiya Abdul Ahad Hawa Md, Kayla Tran Do, Mihika Iyer Do, Chung-Kay Koh Md

Scientific Day

Background/Significance:

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) are tumors originating from trophoblastic cells of the placenta including premalignant hydatidiform moles and malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. Incidence in the United States is from 1.1 to 1.2 per 1000 pregnancies. Rarer is pregnancy with a complete hydatidiform mole and coexisting fetus (CHMCF), from 1/22,000 to 1/100,000 pregnancies. GTD causes hyperthyroidism by cross-reactivity between the ɑ subunit of human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), potentially resulting in devastating consequences.

Description:

A 23-year-old White Hispanic female presented with vaginal bleeding. hCG level was >248,400 mU/mL and an abdominal ultrasound (US) revealed a single, …

Scientific Day

Introduction/Background:

Traumatic cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is an under-recognized complication of head trauma, particularly in skull fractures overlying dural venous sinuses. Among patients with skull fractures, venous sinus thrombosis is reported in up to 7% of cases and in 41–57% when fractures extend to a dural sinus or jugular bulb on dedicated imaging. We present a case of traumatic sigmoid sinus thrombosis associated with mastoid fracture involving the jugular bulb.

Description:

A previously healthy 15-year-old male presents after being thrown from the hood of a moving vehicle. He experienced a brief loss of consciousness followed by headache, dizziness, nausea, …

Possible Role Of Pharmaceutical Interventions In Orbital Compartment Syndrome, Fardeen Sayed Md, Daniel Grahf Md May 2026

Possible Role Of Pharmaceutical Interventions In Orbital Compartment Syndrome, Fardeen Sayed Md, Daniel Grahf Md

Scientific Day

Introduction/Background:

Orbital compartment syndrome is an ophthalmologic emergency characterized by intraorbital pressures exceeding ophthalmic arterial pressure with resultant ischemia to the retina and optic nerve and often irreversible vision loss. It is a clinical diagnosis in the setting of optic neuropathy and increased intraocular pressures and imaging is not required. Timely intervention is a hallmark of treatment with improved outcomes associated with decompression within two hours. The standard of care is lateral canthotomy with cantholysis to restore perfusion and preserve eyesight. While medical and pharmaceutical interventions and treatment play a supplemental role in treatment, their effectiveness has not been confirmed. …

Scientific Day

Introduction/Background:

The combination of severe aortic stenosis and cardiogenic shock carries high morbidity and mortality. In patients who are not immediate candidates for emergent transthoracic aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transfer to a tertiary center, balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) may serve as a temporizing strategy to stabilize hemodynamics and improve end-organ perfusion.

Description:

A 78-year-old man with a past medical history of essential hypertension, hyperlipidemia, nonischemic cardiomyopathy and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction presented with acute decompensated heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated critical AS with an aortic valve area (AVA) of 0.26 cm2, peak velocity 6.2 m/s, mean gradient …

Failure Of Open Traumatic Diaphragm Rupture Repair Managed By Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Approach, Thaddeus Rogozinski Do, Omar Alrashid Md, Hassan Qureshi Md, Julia Coughlin Md

Scientific Day

Background/Significance:

Blunt traumatic diaphragmatic rupture is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening injury frequently associated with intra-abdominal trauma. Operative exploration is typically required to evaluate associated injuries and perform repair. While delayed or chronic cases often favor a transthoracic approach, minimally invasive strategies for early postoperative failure of primary repair are not well described.

Description:

A 40-year-old male presented after a motor vehicle collision. Computed tomography revealed a left-sided diaphragmatic rupture with gastric herniation into the thoracic cavity. Associated pelvic and sacral fractures were managed non-operatively. He underwent exploratory laparotomy with reduction of the herniated stomach and primary two-layer repair using …
