Federally Qualified Health Center Access To Maternity Care For Incarcerated Pregnant Women, Pamela Baldwin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Background: There has been an increase in pregnant incarcerated women, which is a growing concern for this high-risk and special population. This specialty group indicates a need for attention to ensure access to timely and proper medical care. Incarcerated pregnant women are a noted vulnerable group and do not have access to standardized clinical guidelines. Imprisonment imposes unique restrictions regarding access to care. A Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Pennsylvania has been providing ambulatory/obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) care to incarcerated pregnant women. Purpose: This research aimed to investigate strategies FQHC leadership can use to improve access to care for …
Gender Ideology And Gender Equality Policy Adoption, Wendell Christopher Lewis
Gender Ideology And Gender Equality Policy Adoption, Wendell Christopher Lewis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Gender-based violence threatens the social and economic security of countries. Gender equality policies, which address the ideological and material relations of gender equality that support gender-based violence, are being stymied by antigender coalitions. Little is known of the concept called gender ideology used by this coalition to facilitate policy intractability of gender equality policies. This mixed-method study was intended to fill the theoretical and methodological gaps in the literature using the narrative policy framework to explore the concept of gender ideology and policy intractability during the National Gender Policy debate in Trinidad and Tobago between 2010-2018. The research questions focused …

Intergenerational Programs With Older Adults: Elementary School Teachers’ Perceptions On Academic Performance, Jovette Brown
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intergenerational programs bring together two or more generations and engage them in shared activities that inspire, educate, and advance their mutual well-being. Current literature on intergenerational programs involving elementary school children and older individuals describes benefits for both groups. However, most studies concentrate on the benefits for the older adult participants. The purpose of this generic qualitative research study was to explore elementary school teachers’ perceptions of the academic performance of students who participated in an intergenerational program with older adults. The theoretical framework consists of four processes of modeling a social learning theory component. A purposeful sampling of eight …

The Perspective Of Formerly Incarcerated African American Men During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Iyesha Shauntae' Franklin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The confluence of two devastating circumstances—the COVID-19 pandemic and the crowded, insalubrious living conditions in American jails as a result of mass incarceration, brought about an epidemic of an unprecedented magnitude. The large jail population, highly susceptible to infections due to overcrowded conditions, experienced exponential spread of the virus. While earlier research examined unhealthy situations related to the prison environment and their effects on inmates, the focus of such studies was not typically major crises or disease outbreaks in prisons. This qualitative phenomenological study used 10 participants located in the southeastern United States as a case study to better understand …
