Implementation Of A Fall Prevention Program For The Elderly In A Long-Term Care Facility, Maureen Orobosa Igharosa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
One out of 4 older people fall each year. By the year 2030, it is estimated that 49 million older adults will fall and that 12 million will incur injuries as a result. A rise in the trend in falls among older adults represents a growing burden; the cost for falls billed to Medicare in the year 2015 was an aggregate of over $31 billion. The purpose of this quality improvement evaluation project was to assess the effectiveness of a fall preventative pilot program to reduce the number of falls among the residents of a rehabilitation and long-term care facility …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A substantial disparity exists between the proportion of students of color, (SOC), compared to White students in gifted and talented (GT) education. The problem of SOC not being proportionately identified for the GT program relative to the total school population at a Southeastern U.S. suburban school district was the problem addressed in this study. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to identify educators’ perspectives of how the GT identification process supports or hinders the identification of SOC. Using Warne’s theory of GT identification, and Renzulli’s theory of intelligence, the research questions focused on educators’ perspectives of how the …

Antibiotic Stewardship: Decreasing Antibiotic Use For Viral Upper Respiratory Infections, Merkessie Taresa Redix
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractOverprescribing antibiotics for viral upper respiratory infections is a common practice in the United States. This overprescribing of antibiotics can cause several health issues and increase health care costs. Despite the current guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the overprescribing of antibiotics by providers remains an issue. The purpose of this project was to educate providers on antibiotic stewardship for viral upper respiratory infections. The practice question was used to explore whether an educational program using concepts from Lewin’s change theory and Kolb’s learning theory would increase provider’s knowledge about the current evidence- based prescriptive …

Employee Turnover Intentions In Correctional Facilities, Mary Lynn Miller
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Employee turnover reduces organizational performance through the increased financial and human resources required to hire and train new employees. Because correctional officers are essential to reducing the inmate recidivism rate, understanding the correlates of correctional officers’ intent to leave is essential to reduce turnover. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor motivation-hygiene theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the likelihood of employee job satisfaction and leadership behavior perception predicting correctional officer turnover intentions. The participants were 68 correctional officers who worked in correctional facilities in Ohio and completed the Job Satisfaction Survey and Turnover Intention Scale surveys. The …

An Examination Of The Absence Of A Comprehensive Smokefree Law In Georgia On College And University Campuses, Nakki Price
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractCigarette smoking is the number one preventable cause of death and disability in the United States. Although there are policies that govern the use of tobacco products, there are jurisdictions that do not employ these policies. Comprehensive smokefree laws govern private-sector entities and prohibit smoking in public places, specifically restaurants, bars, and workplaces. While states have the authority to implement these laws, some include exceptions that limit the intention of the law. Colleges and universities are specific communities for learning and serve as housing for students and an employer for the greater community. There is a gap in the literature …

Reducing The Readmissions Through Multidisciplinary Rounds In Older Adults, Fatima Rajapathy Tisseverasinghe
Reducing The Readmissions Through Multidisciplinary Rounds In Older Adults, Fatima Rajapathy Tisseverasinghe
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Hospital readmissions are a reflection of poor quality of care. The readmission rate in an acute care for the elderly (ACE) unit was above the national benchmark in 2017. The specific problem includes lack of communication, collaboration, and coordination among the interdisciplinary team. Further, in older adults, the problem is accentuated by health illiteracy, comorbidities, cognitive impairment, polypharmacy, and unclear discharge and follow-up care instructions. Poor care transition costs Medicare 17.4 billion dollars a year. Multidisciplinary rounds (MDRs) have been adopted by many hospitals as evidence-based interventions to reduce readmissions within 30 days. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project …

Leadership And Continuous Improvement In The Nigerian Beverage Industry, John Chinonye Njoku
Leadership And Continuous Improvement In The Nigerian Beverage Industry, John Chinonye Njoku
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is a high failure rate of continuous improvement (CI) initiatives in the beverage industry. Continuous improvement initiatives could help beverage manufacturing managers improve product quality, efficiency, and overall performance. Grounded in the transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between idealized influence, intellectual stimulation, and CI. Nigerian beverage industry managers (N = 160) who participated in the study completed the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form 5X-Short, and the Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) cycle. The results of the multiple linear regression were statistically significant, F(2, 157) = 16.428, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.173. Idealized influence (ß = 0.242, p = 0.000) and intellectual stimulation (ß = 0.278, p = 0.000) were both significant predictors. A key recommendation is for beverage manufacturing managers to promote their employees' creativity, rational thinking, and critical problem-solving skills. The implications for positive social change include the potential to increase the opportunity for the growth and sustainability of the beverage industry.

Total Quality Management Practices For Improving Procurement Performance Of Petroleum Producing Companies, Patrick Ottah Awoke
Total Quality Management Practices For Improving Procurement Performance Of Petroleum Producing Companies, Patrick Ottah Awoke
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In a petroleum producing company in Nigeria, a continual rise of procured technicalmaterials' quality-related problems increased costs in the procurement overheads and technical services from $10.45M in 2012 to $19.00M in 2017, which is an 82% increase, aside the substantial financial outlay in implementing total quality management. Inquirers have attributed the continual quality-related problems to little attention given to total quality management practices (TQMP), employee training deficiencies, reduced quality control, and indecorous process management. This phenomenological study explored managers' lived experiences about total quality management practices connected to procurement performance. Less is known how managers' experiences contribute to quality performance …
