Lived Experience Of Burnout And Self-Efficacy In Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses Caring For Covid-19 Patients In U.S. Hospitals, Trixie Alohilani Harris

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the physical and mental health of intensive care unit registered nurses (ICU RNs). Burnout in ICU RNs existed long before the pandemic; however, the massive increase in critically ill patients and the scarcity of supplies and qualified staff to care for these patients put RNs in a dangerous situation. Research addressed this topic early in the pandemic but were primarily quantitative, with minimal qualitative studies appearing later. There remained a gap in examining ICU RNs in rural hospitals in the United States. The research question for this hermeneutic phenomenological study explored the interpretation of the …

Teacher Educator And School Administrator Perceptions Of Teacher Preparedness To Implement Culturally Responsive Practice, Gail Olivia Hudson Apr 2024

Teacher Educator And School Administrator Perceptions Of Teacher Preparedness To Implement Culturally Responsive Practice, Gail Olivia Hudson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The number of students from ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse backgrounds in K–12 public education settings has increased in the past two decades. However, 80% of teachers in public schools are White and middle-class, which does not mirror the student population. Even though higher education prepares teachers to be culturally sensitive to diverse cultures, more understanding is needed. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory single-embedded case study was to explore teacher educators’ and elementary (K–5) building administrators’ perceptions of preservice and early-career teachers’ preparedness from a university to implement culturally responsive practices for ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse students in …

Perceptions Of Secondary School Educators About English Language Learners Underrepresented In Career And Technical Education Programs, Nancy King Wang

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite the rapid increase of English language learners (ELLs) in schools in the United States in recent years, they remain marginalized in various educational settings. The underrepresentation of ELLs in high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs is one of the inequitable applications in the schools of New York and many other states. The concept that supports this study is rooted in Ladson-Billings’s theory of culturally relevant teaching, which can also be found in the literature on the culturally responsive sustaining education (CRSE) framework published by the New York State Education Department. The key questions for this research study …

A Comparison Of Public, Private, And Charter Educator Beliefs About Autistic Students Abilities, Jodene Ruth Jensen

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

With the incidence of autism on the rise, it is imperative to identify factors that contribute to education. Despite the accessibility and low cost of public institutions, many parents choose to educate their autistic children in private and charter school settings. This study examined the difference in beliefs among public, private, and charter school educators toward the abilities of autistic students. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory guided this study. Through a mixed-methods approach, surveys were employed to special educators within the Walden Participant and Survey Monkey Pools. There was a total of 209 survey respondents. Surveys were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis …
