Staff Education Project To Train Providers On The Use Of The Sbar Communication Tool To Improve Reimbursement Rates, Teona Natoya Eririogu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In this doctoral project, I focused on educating healthcare staff on using the situation-background-assessment-recommendation (SBAR) communication tool to improve documentation practices and reimbursement rates from Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. My goal for the project was to determine if training on the SBAR tool would improve healthcare providers' knowledge of how to use it for documentation. The facility had experienced significant financial losses, exceeding $1 million in the last two quarters of 2023, due to inadequate documentation. Inaccurate or incomplete documentation, particularly in medical records, hinders the ability to bill appropriately for services rendered, impacting patient care and financial …

Exploring Body Composition And Sexual Behavior In South Texas College Students, Soyoung Kwon, Shannon Shen

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

In this exploratory study, we examined the understudied relationship between body composition and sexual behavior among freshmen college students, addressing a gap in empirical research. Our sample consisted of 217 nonclinical college students recruited from a university in the southwestern United States; a majority of the students were Hispanic (70%) and freshmen (95%). Using multivariate logistic regression, we explored associations of body mass index, body fat percentage, and fat mass index with sexual behaviors. More than half of the participants were either overweight (22.5%) or obese (30.4%), and nearly 70% fell outside the healthy range of body fat. Results showed …

Exploring South Texas Teachers’ Perceptions Of Challenges Implementing Blended Learning Into Their Classrooms, Lisa Mischelle Watts

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Blended learning (BL), also known as hybrid or flipped classroom learning, is a method that involves both traditional face-to-face teaching and online media instruction. The problem experienced in South Texas school districts (STSD), despite research showing evidence of the BL model’s benefits, is that some teachers are struggling to implement BL into their classrooms. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore STSD teachers’ perceptions of the challenges and support needed to incorporate BL into their classrooms. The conceptual frameworks that supported this study were Davis’s technology acceptance model and Bloom’s digital taxonomy. For this basic qualitative design, six …

This study addresses the ability of the client organization to create new programming that is separate from its general fund and is revenue-neutral because the client organization is a conservation district operating under the California Water Code Division 21 Sections 74000-76501. The constraint of California Proposition 13’s property tax rate increases makes it difficult for the client organization to fund new programming. To overcome these limitations, the multiple streams framework (MSF) and the s/SWOT and PESTEL frameworks were used to analyze the role of policy entrepreneurs and address potential limitations in the client organization’s creation of new programming, ensuring sustainability …

Executive Summary: Clinical Practice Guideline Obstetrics Diabetes Management, Carole N. Louis Oct 2024

Executive Summary: Clinical Practice Guideline Obstetrics Diabetes Management, Carole N. Louis

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Summary A clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed because the perinatal department lacked standardized management of pregestational and gestational diabetes. The practice issue is relevant since managing maternal glucose ranges during pregnancy mitigates adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. The practice-focused question asks, “What are the best practices to manage diabetes in the intrapartum and postpartum settings?” The project was designed to develop an evidence-based protocol to provide standardized management for nurses and providers. Most studies in the literature search were quantitative sources with either A or B overall quality ratings. Based on the evidence, the intrapartum target maternal glucose range …

Staff Education To Use The Mental Health Risk Assessment Tool, Nkeiruka Okwuoma Okonkwo Oct 2024

Staff Education To Use The Mental Health Risk Assessment Tool, Nkeiruka Okwuoma Okonkwo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Suicide/self-harm continues to be one of the most common sentinel events that could result in significant harm or death especially among mental health patients (Mills et al., 2020). Environmental hazards seem to be the primary contributing factor in patient suicide and self-harm cases. Thus, patient suicide remains a safety concern, especially in mental health facilities. It is important that nurses have the knowledge to prevent, identify, assess, and respond appropriately whenever they encounter patients at risk for suicide/self-harm. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) staff education project focused on educating staff on how to use the Mental Health Environmental Risk …

The problem that was addressed through this study is that online undergraduate adult students, 25 years of age or older, do not persist to graduation at Caring University, a pseudonym for an online university. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the perceptions of online adult undergraduate alumni about what motivated them to persist in their educational pursuits and what recommendations they have for instructors to motivate current students. The conceptual framework that guided this research is Ryan and Deci’s self-determination theory, which explores why humans are motivated to change. For this basic qualitative design, 10 adult undergraduate …

Changes In Quality, Cost, Expenses Per Capita, And Beneficiaries Of The Medicare Shared Savings Program, Vanessa Lee Weaver Oct 2024

Changes In Quality, Cost, Expenses Per Capita, And Beneficiaries Of The Medicare Shared Savings Program, Vanessa Lee Weaver

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Annual national health spending continues to increase, and evidence does not support the notion that the majority of reform programs, which have concentrated on quality-based payment schemes, have improved healthcare quality or health outcomes in a way that is necessary. Consequently, health care expenses are still linked to high expenditures despite the intended improvements in outcomes not occurring. Using the Donabedian model of structure-process-outcome as the conceptual framework, the relationship between the quality score and the generated total savings and generated total losses for Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Participants from 2019 through 2021 was investigated. …
