Middle-Income Housing Affordability: An Exploration Of The Residual Income Approach In Delaware, Alexis Bryan-Dorsey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Families with children face challenges finding affordable housing. The research problem addressed through this quantitative group comparison design study was the need for alternative measures of determining housing affordability for families with children. Efforts to determine the best evaluation of housing affordability could help some families that may fall into the gap and lack a substantiated voice in the development of public policy. Researchers have demonstrated issues with housing affordability, such as the rising costs of housing and a shortage of affordable housing units but have not established the significance of using alternative measures to determine affordability and the implementation …

A Quality Improvement Initiative To Implement An Educational And Behavioral Intervention To Address Childhood Obesity And Depression, Hillary Oluwatosin Ayokunle
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary The doctoral project was a quality improvement initiative aimed at addressing the co-occurrence of obesity and depression in children aged 9-18 years. The practice problem is critical within the context of nursing practice, as both childhood obesity and depression are significant public health concerns that impact physical and mental well-being. The practice-focused question guiding the project explored whether the implementation of an educational program centered on nutrition, physical activity, and mental health leads to improvements in body mass index (BMI) and reductions in depressive symptoms, as measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The purpose of the doctoral project …

Reasonable Suspicion And Racial Profiling In The Enforcement Of Immigration Laws In Arizona, George L. Wajackoyah
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The delegation of immigration enforcement authority to local law enforcement under Section 287(g) raised concerns about increased racial profiling, fueling fear and distrust in immigrant communities. Understanding these effects aided in evaluating the broader impact of immigration policies on public safety and community relations. Grounded in critical race theory, this study explored how Section 287(g) enabled racial profiling by giving local law enforcement broad discretionary authority over immigration enforcement. A qualitative research design was employed using thematic analysis of interview data from 26 immigrants and law enforcement officers. Manual coding and NVivo software were utilized to conduct the analysis. The …

Educational Program Focused On Medication-Assisted Treatment To Improve Healthcare Providers’ Knowledge Of Managing Opioid Use Disorder In Primary Care Setting, Genean Marie Doyle
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project is a staff education project focused on enhancing healthcare providers’ knowledge of managing opioid use disorder (OUD) through medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in a primary care setting. The practice problem focuses on the lack of provider knowledge and persistent misconceptions about MAT. Primary care providers often feel ill-equipped to manage OUD, due to inadequate formal training and report insufficient understanding of MAT medications, regulatory requirements, and patient management strategies, contributing to underutilization of MAT, even in settings where patient need is high. Given the ongoing opioid epidemic and the important role that primary care …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Adults are being diagnosed with autism at greater rates than in the past two decades. This research study examined whether the age of autism diagnosis impacts the severity of comorbid mental health disorders in adults formally diagnosed with autism. The Empathizing-Systemizing theory, which posits that autistic individuals systemize at greater rates, was applied to understand the link between age of autism diagnosis and two common comorbid disorders, depression (measured by the PHQ-9) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD; measured by the PCL-5). Mediation analyses were used to explore these relationships on a convenience sample of 232 adults with autism. No significant …
