A Qualitative Study Of Medical Cannabis Policy For Multiple Sclerosis In Kansas And Colorado, Haydn Primrose Jan 2026

A Qualitative Study Of Medical Cannabis Policy For Multiple Sclerosis In Kansas And Colorado, Haydn Primrose

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Medical cannabis may alleviate symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), yet access to cannabis-based treatment (CBT) remains inconsistent across U.S. states. The research problem was that state policy variation and administrative implementation produce inequitable access and clinical uncertainty for individuals with MS and for clinicians and policymakers responsible for compliant care decisions. Existing literature on cannabis for MS primarily addresses symptom relief, including spasticity reduction, pain relief, and improved sleep quality; however, access policies vary by state. The purpose of this qualitative systematic review was to synthesize evidence on policy and administrative barriers shaping access to medical cannabis for MS …

Critical race theory (CRT), especially the concept of microaggressions, was used as the framework for the study. Two research questions guided the study: What are the adult lived experiences with traditional Hawaiian first names encountered in academic settings during childhood? How do adults with traditional Hawaiian first names describe their experiences of race in the classroom? Semistructured interviews were conducted with …

Multidisciplinary Approach To Reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections: A Dnp Project, Jovinsky Jonaldo Eliscard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Healthcare-associated infections are increasingly common in healthcare facilities due to multiple concerns, including negligence, human error, and poor conditions. According to Chuwa (2024), secondary infections are a significant threat to patient safety and wellness, reducing an organization’s ability to realize clinical objectives. The facility is a large healthcare provider operating numerous hospitals and care homes across the United States. The organization continues to report increased infection rates across its branches owing to a lack of standardized infection prevention and control protocols, reducing its efficiency and appeal. Internal audits point to inconsistencies in general sanitation, cleanliness, and hygiene. The organization also …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) students’ social, emotional, and academic experiences and outcomes are not on par with their non-LGBTQ+ peers. Understanding how LGBTQ+ young adults experienced high school in a state with LGBTQ+-affirmative education legislation provides insight for counselors and educators to identify policies and practices that support positive outcomes for LGBTQ+ students. This qualitative phenomenological study explored how LGBTQ+-identifying high school graduates made meaning of their experiences in school as they related to LGBTQ+-affirmative education legislation. Interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) was used for the research methodology and data analysis process. Results included four themes: (a) …

Social Workers' Perspectives Of Using Teletherapy To Foster Resilience Among Middle-Class Single Black Mothers, Yvonne Judge

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Inadequate mental health support, particularly from social workers, disproportionately affects middle-class single Black mothers. Prior studies have examined low-income single mothers’ access to mental health care and the potential of teletherapy as a tool for improving access; however, few have explored how middle-class single Black mothers navigate mental health challenges. Further, there is a lack of research on social workers’ perspectives of using teletherapy to foster resilience among middle-class single Black mothers. This is a critical gap, as social workers play a key role in tailoring mental health interventions. The purpose of this study was to explore social workers’ perspectives …

National Survey Of Physical Therapists’ Participation As Health Educators In Physical Activity Promotion Among Older Adults, Casey Nicole Mokres

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Physical inactivity among older adults remains a major national and global public health concern linked to preventable morbidity, mortality, and rising healthcare costs. Physical therapists are uniquely positioned to promote physical activity (PA) through health education, yet their engagement in this role is not well defined. This quantitative cross-sectional study examined associations between clinical practice factors—years of experience, board certification status, and practice setting—and three domains of the theoretical domains framework (knowledge, skills, and behavioral regulation) related to PA promotion among older adults. The framework guided identification of behavioral and contextual factors influencing therapists’ delivery of PA promotion interventions. Data …

Staff Education To Improve Patient Outcomes Through Bedside Shift Report In A Skilled Nursing Facility, Ngum Avwontom

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract Problem: Inconsistent shift handoff communication in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) contributes to adverse patient outcomes, including medical errors, falls, and pressure ulcers. Methods: This staff education project implemented a standardized BSR program in a 100-bed SNF over seven weeks. The intervention trained 18 nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on BSR using the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation (SBAR) communication framework. A pre- and post-test design was used to evaluate the impact on staff knowledge, shift report duration, and patient safety outcomes, including …

As such, grounded in constructivism and interpretivism, this study investigated the extent to which substance use influences injury outcomes and whether its role is underestimated in workplace incident reporting by analyzing worker’s compensation claims in Ohio. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a …
