A History Of The Richmond Professional Institute : From Its Beginning In 1917 To Its Consolidation With The Medical College Of Virginia In 1968 To Form Virginia Commonwealth University, Henry Horace Hibbs
VCU University History Books
A History of the Richmond Professional Institute: From Its Beginning in 1917 to Its Consolidation With the Medical College of Virginia in 1968 to Form Virginia Commonwealth University was written by Dr. Henry H. Hibbs, Jr. (1887-1977), long-time leader of Richmond Professional Institute (RPI).
After he retired, Dr. Hibbs was paid a consultant's fee to write this book on the history of RPI. He designated VCU as the sole recipient of profits from the sale of the book. The alumni associations of VCU and the Richmond Professional Institute Foundation were involved in editing the book before it was published in …
The Molecular Nature And Replication Of R Factor 222 In Proteus Mirabilis, Dennis Jon Kopecko
The Molecular Nature And Replication Of R Factor 222 In Proteus Mirabilis, Dennis Jon Kopecko
Theses and Dissertations
The molecular nature and replicative behavior of R factor 222 was examined in Proteus mirabilis . In deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA} from R+ P. mirabilis , R factor 222 was identified by CsCl density gradient centrifugation as 2 satellite DNA bands at densities corresponding to 50 and 58 moles percent guanine plus cytosine (% GC) . Replication of the 50 and 58% GC components of R factor 222 in P. mirabilis was analyzed during growth in the presence and absence of chloramphenicol (CAM} and after shifting exponentialand stationary- phase cells to conditions which inhibit host protein or DNA synthesis . CAM …
A Comparison Of Microbial Contamination In Commercial Intravenous Fluids Packaged In Glass And Flexible Plastic Containers, James Bruce Guynn
A Comparison Of Microbial Contamination In Commercial Intravenous Fluids Packaged In Glass And Flexible Plastic Containers, James Bruce Guynn
Theses and Dissertations
An original study was undertaken in the pharmacy and at the nursing unit simulating conditions of actual use to determine contamination rates for intravenous fluids in glass bottles and flexible plastic bags.
Studies Of Teratogenic Viruses: Minute Virus Of Mice And Colorado Tick Fever Virus, Robert Eldred Harris
Studies Of Teratogenic Viruses: Minute Virus Of Mice And Colorado Tick Fever Virus, Robert Eldred Harris
Theses and Dissertations
Studies were conducted in DUB/ICR mice with minute virus of mice (MVM), a single stranded DNA virus, and Colorado tick fever (CTF) virus, a double stranded RNA Virus, to determine if CTF virus had teratogenic potential and to characterize further MVM and its teratogenic effects. MVM is a known teratogen, whereas CTF virus had never been investigated previously for teratogenic potential.
In characterization studies of MVM infectivity, the following were determined: (a) Rat embryo cells proved to be superior to six cell lines in assaying for MVM infectivity; (b) MVM infectivity could be inactivated with common laboratory disinfectants, ultraviolet radiation, …

Vcu Today (1972-06-01)
VCU Today, 1972-1988
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

At this point in time, the most intensive efforts toward education should be made in the medical schools. Very shortly these students will be faced with large numbers of patients with venereal disease, and we must prepare them. Unfortunately, this area in the medical school curriculum has been progressively crowded out by what seemed more important. It is now apparent that even though the prevalence of venereal disease may wax and wane, they will always represent a sizable medical problem. We must gear medical education and medical reeducation to meet these needs.
Progress Of Congenital Heart Disease: The Team Approach As It Includes The Anesthesiologist, Carolyn M. Mccue
Progress Of Congenital Heart Disease: The Team Approach As It Includes The Anesthesiologist, Carolyn M. Mccue
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
Advances in cardiac surgery have been great in the last 30 years, but further progress is anticipated, especially in infants. A cooperative effort involving referring physicians, pediatric cardiologists, physiologists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and intensive care nurses is required to continue this trend.
