Bear Lake is an old lake. The lake basin was form ed during the growth of the surround ing mountains; since that time, a lake has been present whenever the climate has been wet enough, but it has probably completely dried up during very dry periods.
Treatment With Sulfabromomethazine Of Coccidiosis Caused By Eimeria Bovis In Calves, William Arlo Trost
Treatment With Sulfabromomethazine Of Coccidiosis Caused By Eimeria Bovis In Calves, William Arlo Trost
Biology
Coccidiosis has proven to be one of the more important parasitic infections found in cattle. This disease is caused by members of the genus Eimeria, of which there are ten or more species in cattle. Experimental work has shown that two of these, E. bovis and E. zurnii are the principle pathogens (20). Coccidiosis causes such an economic loss (estimated at $10,000,000 annually) to the cattle industry (13) that numerous investigators have studied the disease. The disease is more common in younger than older bovines.

The Effects Of Hunting Season Length On Comparable Pheasant Populations, Temple A. Reynolds
The Effects Of Hunting Season Length On Comparable Pheasant Populations, Temple A. Reynolds
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
For many years sportsmen have speculated that hunting limits pheasant populations. With the abolition of the Pheasant Game Farm program in Utah in 1953, this popular concept gained much impetus with the result that, because of public disfavor to a longer season, a 3 to 5 day season on pheasants is the maximum that has been called in northern Utah and this only in areas classed as "better" pheasant habitat.
In contrast to the short seasons in Utah, pheasant seasons in southern Idaho have been from 8½ to 15½ days long for the past 10 years, and will be even …

Evidence Against The Transmission Of Staphylococci By The Mosquito Culex Tarsalis, John R. Molenda
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Staphylococcal synovitis is a pathological condition of birds involving primarily the wing and leg joints. It is frequently referred to as arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, hock disease, staphylococcosis, and weak leg.
The disease has been reported throughout various parts of the world as having been found in a great variety of avian hosts including pheasants, chickens, pigeons, canaries, geese, ducks, grouse, and turkeys.
Miner (1945) presented results of a survey made on turkey diseases in Sanpete County, Utah, which indicated staphylococcal synovitis to be responsible for the greatest numbers of deaths. His report cites this infection as having been found in …

The History Of Montpelier From 1864 To 1925, A. Mckay Rich
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
There have been many histories written on the great movements of American History and most states have had their histories, but almost endless localities have been neglected. Yet it is in the localities that we find the greatest stories and problems of the states, nations, and world in their embryonic stages. There is no better place to begin a realization of the heritage of America than in the story of one's own locality. It is for these reasons that I have chosen to write this paper upon the history of Montpelier, Idaho.
A Study Of The Relative Importance Of Items Discussed In Parent-Teacher Conferences As Rated By Parents And Educators In The Logan City Schools, Robert W. Bickmore
A Study Of The Relative Importance Of Items Discussed In Parent-Teacher Conferences As Rated By Parents And Educators In The Logan City Schools, Robert W. Bickmore
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
There are numerous ways, both written and oral, in which the schools can report pupil progress to parents. Promising practices include parent-teacher conferences, notes to parents, combination of narrative reports and parent-teacher conferences, and progress check sheets indicating, among other things, attitudes and behavior.
Educators have long recognized the inadequacy of the report card and the traditional marking system. Studies show that no two teachers mark just alike, even with a common set of standards to follow. Children work for marks rather than self-improvement. Marks, alone, cannot and do not tell a complete story.
Elsbree (4) points out that many …
Comparison Of Two Plans For Administration Organization Of The School Districts Of Sanpete County, Leon F. Christiansen
Comparison Of Two Plans For Administration Organization Of The School Districts Of Sanpete County, Leon F. Christiansen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Educational administration exists to develop and guide the educational program. Every local public school system is a legal agency of the state for the conduct of public education. State laws usually set up the administrative units for school districts and places upon local boards of education the responsibility for the management of the local schools. Such boards represent the people of the state, and the district, and they perform a large number of legally designated functions.
The constitution of the State of Utah states clearly the responsibility for the maintenance and establishment of the schools. The following are extracts from …
Banding And Marking Methods In Studying Seasonal Movements Of The Sharp-Tailed Grouse In Morton County, North Dakota, Albert T. Klett
Banding And Marking Methods In Studying Seasonal Movements Of The Sharp-Tailed Grouse In Morton County, North Dakota, Albert T. Klett
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Great Plains variety of the sharp-tailed grouse Pediocetes phasianellus jamesi Lincoln was the predominant upland game bird during the exploratory and early settlement period in North Dakota (Coues 1874 and 1878, Larson 1928, and Williams 1926). Since then its status has diminished as the prairie grassland gradually was converted to intensively used pastures and cropland. Although the sharptail is still abundant enough in its remaining habitat to provide for liberal annual harvests, further demand on these lands by a growing human population will make it necessary to apply game management measures other than hunting regulations if the sharptail is …

Thermodynamics Of Phosphate Absorption On Several Charcoals, James Duncan Beaton
Thermodynamics Of Phosphate Absorption On Several Charcoals, James Duncan Beaton
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Phosphorus has long been recognized by agriculturists as being one of the elements essential for plant growth. Although the total phosphorus content of a soil may be high, the amount of phosphate actually available for plant growth is often low. Many agencies such as inherent low solubilities of phosphate compounds, adsorption on Ca C03, adsorption in the diffuse double layer of clay micelles, and chemical precipitation of phosphate which refers to the removal of phosphate ions from solution and their chemical bonding to the solid phase have been studied to explain the lack of phosphate availability.

Relationship Of Bicarbonate Concentration Of Plant Tissue To That Of The Growth Media As A Factor In Chlorosis, Gary H. Carlsen
Relationship Of Bicarbonate Concentration Of Plant Tissue To That Of The Growth Media As A Factor In Chlorosis, Gary H. Carlsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Throughout the years lime-induced chlorosis has contributed to untold economic losses. Although this disease has challenged the technical ingenuity of outstanding plant and soil scientists, the exact cause has never been determined; consequently, no preventative measures or permanent cures can, as yet, be recommended. This physiological malady, unchecked, continues its rampage in regions where the disease is prevalent.
The problem is of wide significance because calcareous soils are distributed throughout the world. It is of primary concern to us because the majority of the land of western United States is of this type. An estimated 500,000 acres of crops growing …
Reed Canarygrass Germination At Five Seed Maturity Stages And Sixteen Seed Treatments, Richard N. Peaden
Reed Canarygrass Germination At Five Seed Maturity Stages And Sixteen Seed Treatments, Richard N. Peaden
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea) has long been recognized as adapted to wetlands and those subject to periodic flooding. In Utah, Wilson (1955) estimate that 40 percent of the valley bottom land is flooded at least part of the year. Much of this land is very dry late in the summer. Forages such as Alsike clover tolerate flooding and some salt but do not perform well under drouth. Work by Bolton (1946) indicated that flooding for 49 day did not cause serious permanent damage to Reed canarygrass. The author has observed Reed canarygrass growing in a shallow reservoir which …
Comparative Study Of The Composition And Quality Of Bulk Tank Milk, Kay M. Nilson
Comparative Study Of The Composition And Quality Of Bulk Tank Milk, Kay M. Nilson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
During the past decade, many changes have taken place in the dairy industry. At the present time, the industry is endeavoring to improve the quality and handling of milk. This is being accomplished by new equipment and improved methods.
In recent years the handling and transporting of milk by means of the ten gallon can is being replaced by the bulk tank system. With improved farm and truck tanks, milk can be cooled rapidly and stored at a lower temperature.
There are a few problems pertaining to quality, fat tests and weights in handling milk in bulk tanks. Among the …

The Relative Saponin Content Of Alfalfa Varieties In Utah As Measured By Chick Growth Depression, Morris Dean Wilding
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Bloat among ruminants is not new to farmers or scientists. One learns from a Roman author's description of this ailment written in 60 A. D. that the symptoms have changed little since that time. Literature also records that the treatments used today for the prevention and relief of bloat are similar to those prescribed by the early Romans (Anonymous 1954).
The Backcross Method In Breeding Tomatoes Resistant To Fusarium Wilt, Joseph L. Peterson
The Backcross Method In Breeding Tomatoes Resistant To Fusarium Wilt, Joseph L. Peterson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Many times the plant pathologist and plant breeder are confronted with a plant disease which requires the development of a resistant variety in a limited time. Any breeding program which requires selection from a large population during each segregating generation to insure the right genetic combination will, of course, lengthen the period which it will take to develop this resistant variety. The backcross method of plant breeding, in many cases, helps the plant pathologist and plant breeder develop resistant varieties containing characteristics similar to those of the desired parental type within a shorter period of time.
Green Rot Of Apricot, Abdul Karim N. Alrayis
Green Rot Of Apricot, Abdul Karim N. Alrayis
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This disease, also called jacket rot of apricot, was first though to be similar to a disease caused by a fungus found in central California. The Utah disease was first noted in 1953, in the Henry Hall Chinese apricot orchard at North Ogden. It was not very severe in 1953, but in 1954 and 1955 it affected half of the crop. In 1956 the disease could not be found in the orchard. Infection occurred in young green fruit resulting in brown to black necrotic lesions which varied from 1/4 to 3/4 inches in diameter. Infected fruits usually dropped from the …
The Alkali Tolerance Of Tall Wheatgrass, David L. Carter
The Alkali Tolerance Of Tall Wheatgrass, David L. Carter
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Alkali land occurs adjacent to nearly every extensively irrigated area. Much of this land is too alkaline to produce profitable crops. Each year thousands of acres or land are going out of production because or increasing alkalinity. This presents one or the most acute problem which confronts irrigation agriculture today.
