Influence Of Fertilizer Treatment On The Response Of Sugar Beet Yield To Moisture, Samad Farzanfar
Influence Of Fertilizer Treatment On The Response Of Sugar Beet Yield To Moisture, Samad Farzanfar
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Many factors that influence the growth and quality of sugar beets behave in one way under one set of conditions and in quite another under other conditions. Consequently, these factors should be considered together under a dynamic situation to find their interrelations and their influence on sugar beet yield.
This study is a statistical analysis of the interaction of fertilizer and soil moisture potential with the yield of sugar beets grown in a crop rotation under different regimes of irrigation conducted over a period of seven years.
The data are available for the years 1949 through 1956, from an intensive …
Geomorphic Features And History Of The Lower Part Of Logan Canyon, Utah, Edmund J. Williams
Geomorphic Features And History Of The Lower Part Of Logan Canyon, Utah, Edmund J. Williams
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Logan Canyon is located east of Logan, Utah, in the Bear River Range. The lower part of Logan Canyon is considered that section of the canyon from its mouth upstream to Tony Grove Canyon, a distance of 22 miles1, Figure 1. Some tributary canyons of the lower part of Logan Canyon have been included in this investigation because of their relationship to Logan Canyon. Grassy Flat Canyon, a south tributary of Logan Canyon 4.4 miles from Logan, exhibits several geomorphic features related to the geology of Logan Canyon. Because of its extensive use and close association with Logan …

Geology Of The Southwestern Part Of The Randolph Quadrangle, Utah-Wyoming, Steven C. Hansen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A detailed study of the southwestern part of the Randolph quadrangle was undertaken in view of the fact that Richardson (1941) mapped a large area of undifferentiated Ordovician rock. Therefore, the purposes of this investigation are: (1) to prepare a more detailed geologic map of the southwestern part of the Randolph quadrangle (Plate 1), (2) to describe the structure, stratigraphy, and geologic history of the area, and (3) to relate the geology to adjacent areas.

Influence Of Temperature On Protein, Moisture And Fat And Some Other Factors In Charcoal Broiled Meats, Ilene C. Savage
Influence Of Temperature On Protein, Moisture And Fat And Some Other Factors In Charcoal Broiled Meats, Ilene C. Savage
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Due to the increasing popularity of outdoor cooking of meat, there is interest in determining the chemical and physical changes that occur during the charcoal broiling process. Of particular interest is the effect of these changes upon the quality of the broiled meat. Although broiling is not a new method of cooking meat, a review of the literature revealed few reports of scientific work on broiled meats. Some work has been done on the effect of different cooking methods on weight losses, tenderness, palatability, thiamine, protein content, but no reports were found relating surface temperature and cooking time to rate …
Effects Of Hydro-Cooling, Chemicals, And Packaging Treatments On Refrigerated-Life And Quality Of Sweet Cherries And In Vitro Effects Of Chemicals On Selected Fungi Responsible For Fruit Deterioration, Joseph Yungsheng Do
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
As the population tends to urbanize, the potential consumer market of fresh produce becomes distant from the producing farm. This distance brings to growers and handlers the problems of how to keep their fresh products unspoiled after harvest and during transit period of shipping, and how they can be delivered to the specified destination without substantial deterioration. It is the common interest of fruit growers, shippers, wholesalers, and retailers that the shelf-life of fresh fruit be prolonged to increase sales.
Sweet cherries are one of the important fruit crops in Utah. Being highly perishable, fresh sweet cherries have relatively short …
Children's Friends In Ability Vs. Randomly Grouped Classrooms, Nolan Kay Griffin
Children's Friends In Ability Vs. Randomly Grouped Classrooms, Nolan Kay Griffin
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
For over forty years ability grouping has been of professional concern to educators in the United States (Reisner, 1936). There have been fundamental changes in educational theory and practice during that time, one of which is the recognition that educational practices must adjust to individual differences. The interpretation of "equal opportunity" in education has gradually changed from meaning the same methods, standards, and course content for all children, to meaning the full opportunity for each child to develop his own potential in a school program suited to his individual capacities and needs.
The interpersonal relationships and social development of school …
Canada Goose Production And Population Stability, Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area, Utah, Norman H. Dey
Canada Goose Production And Population Stability, Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area, Utah, Norman H. Dey
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Since the development of Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area in 1937, the Canada goose (Branta canadesis moffitti) population increased to a peak in 1949 and then declined slightly. Nelson (1954) noted that the decrease in population was probably due to either a change in habitat or increased hunting pressure. In recent years, direct band returns have indicated a high mortality rate in the population. This project was initiated to determine the relative stability of the Canada goose population and to measure, as closely as possible, the effect of a high mortality rate upon the nesting population.
The Role Of The Federal Government In The Industrial Expansion Of Utah During World War Two, Anthony Thomas Cluff
The Role Of The Federal Government In The Industrial Expansion Of Utah During World War Two, Anthony Thomas Cluff
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
For ten years the American economy had been depressed. Unemployment haunted economic planners, low production plagued manufacturers, low incomes impoverished wage earners, and everyone hoped for the dawn of new prosperity. It was as if recovery had waited for an untrodden decade to arrive before heralding the new day. The New Deal brought Social Security for old age, insurance for bank deposits, new guarantees for labor, and a score of public work projects, but it did not bring economic recovery.
A Description And An Evaluation Of The Admissions Policy At Utah State University As It Relates To Low Performing Students, Vincent Eugene Erickson
A Description And An Evaluation Of The Admissions Policy At Utah State University As It Relates To Low Performing Students, Vincent Eugene Erickson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
It has been evidenced by the increased amount of contacts being made in Counseling Services of Utah State University that students have been very much concerned about whether or not they should be in college. The discussion concerning which college to attend has been heard often among high school graduates, and for many, Utah State University has been a first choice. An increased drop-out rate among students has been found in the past few years. This study has been accomplished to determine which of the entering students at Utah State have been sufficiently prepared to enter into a course of …
Cost Of Reclaiming Pinyon-Juniper Rangeland And Its Effect On Cattle Ranch Income, John William Adams
Cost Of Reclaiming Pinyon-Juniper Rangeland And Its Effect On Cattle Ranch Income, John William Adams
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
There was a period during the early history of Utah when grasses in some areas grew so tall that it hid grazing cattle and sheep from view. However, mismanagement caused this to change and depleted grassland was invaded by noxious weeds, sagebrush, and pinyon-juniper. This deterioration of choice grassland to less desirable range cover was aided by the attitude of stockmen that pasture was available on a first come first serve basis. As a result of such an attitude and the unsatisfactory condition of ranges, the era of free, uncontrolled use of grazing lands came to a close with the …

Economic Evaluation Of Stockwater Development Practices On Mountain Cattle Ranches In Utah, Robert Max Nielson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The state of Utah is comprised of 52.7 million acres of land of which 86 percent is covered by range vegetation. This rangeland provides part or all of the feed for approximately 430,000 head of cattle and 1,300,000 sheep. Rangeland products constitute from 33 to 40 percent of the agriculture income within the Intermountain Region. Utah's vast rangeland area represents a basic resource of considerable importance to her economy.
International Cooperation In The Economic Development Of Latin America, Antonella Picchio
International Cooperation In The Economic Development Of Latin America, Antonella Picchio
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
As an Italian, with less than a year in the Western Hemisphere, I now find myself with a “mixed” personality. As someone else expressed it, "I am physically Italian, Latin American by adoption, and gaily American." This may well be a good combination for writing a thesis on Latin America. My "Latin blood" may help me in understanding the mentality of the people of Latin America, while my studies in Italy--a country with a long experience as an underdeveloped country--may contribute toward a personal understanding of the problems of poverty, social injustice, and political instability. Three months of experience in …
Parent Education In A Cooperative Nursery School, Owen William Cahoon
Parent Education In A Cooperative Nursery School, Owen William Cahoon
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Parent education has existed for as long as one parent has attempted to help another, and for as long as we have records. To what extent it has served its purpose has not been fully established. Only the future will fully tell how successful parent education programs have been among those who participated in them, because the final measure of success of a parent education program is the degree to which it contributes to effective family relationships and to favorable growth and development of children in the home.
Parent education sometimes is defined as the use of educational techniques to …
Concentrate Feed Handling Methods And Costs By Dairy And Beef Producers--Selected Utah Counties, 1961-1962, Kendell W. Brinkerhoff
Concentrate Feed Handling Methods And Costs By Dairy And Beef Producers--Selected Utah Counties, 1961-1962, Kendell W. Brinkerhoff
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Utah is historically an agricultural state with many resources adapted to livestock production. The beef and dairy industries in Utah account for 40 and 15 percent respectively of the total receipts received from agricultural marketings (7). Utah's resources are less adapted to poultry production compared to livestock production. Nevertheless, poultry production represents a significant portion of the total agricultural receipts. Production of livestock and poultry have expanded beyond the state's capacity to produce concentrate feed to benefit from economy of scale and to increase farm size through intensification. This feed deficit in Utah must be supplied from sources outside the …
The Relative Accuracy Of Estimating The Production Of Dairy Cows As Affected By Length Of Testing Interval And Method Of Estimating Production, Ross M. Young
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Production records for dairy cows were first based on the yield of butter for a seven day period any time during the lactation. Later, 365- day records based on production for one day in each calendar month came into general use. The records preferred at present are 305- day records based on monthly test day production, but calculated using the centering date method. The centering date estimate is based on milk and butterfat production from two consecutive milkings per month. The sampling day is centered as nearly as possible in the test month period which need not coincide with the …

Effects Of Pre- And Post-Harvest Applications Of 6-Furfurylaminopurine And N6-Benzyladenine On Physio-Chemical Changes In Lettuce (Lactuca Sativa L.), Hussein Ibrahim El-Mansy
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The extent and nature of physio-chemical changes that take place in detached leaves after harvest and during storage have been reviewed and discussed by Osborne (1962) and Rogers (1955). These changes include loss of moisture (Wittwer et al., 1962), chlorophyll degredation (Person et al., 1957), Protein loss (Thimann and Manmahan, 1960), and result in subsequent appearance of the visual manifestations of senescence of plant tissues.
As lettuce, like most leafy vegetables, deteriorates rapidly and steadily after harvest. Loss of quality is inevitable and can only be minimized by rapid handling and with the best possible storage conditions (Pratt …

A Comparative Gas Chromatographic Study Of Venison And Beef Flavors, K. Prakash Reddy
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Venison is an important food item in the diet of the people of the United States. Deer is hunted both as sport and for food. Annually, nearly 180,000 hunters go afield in Utah in search of deer. Over 130,000 animals are killed which amounts to an annual harvest of over 15,000,000 pounds of dressed venison. This contributes about 10 1/2 million dollars to the economy of the state from licenses, lodgings, transportation, and other expenses of hunting.

Sugar Beet Production In Utah: Cost And Net Return 1945-1963, Earnest M. Morrison
Utah Resources Series
For a number of years the Agricultural Experiment Station has measured and reported the costs and returns in the production of the important agricultural enterprises on Utah farms. These studies have been initiated by a detailed investigation of a sufficient number of farms to reflect the average conditions of the enterprise under study. In each succeeding year sufficient additional field and other data are collected to reflect the changes in prices, costs, and method of production to determine the current costs and returns for that year. Periodically detailed studies have been repeated for each enterprise and the data kept current …
