For many years alfalfa-seed production problems have engaged the attention of investigators in various parts of the world. Those factors which are regarded as of greatest importance in seed-setting are general climate, current weather, air humidity, soil moisture, and insect relationships within the various alfalfa-seed districts. Some attention in research has been given to pollen fertility and ovule sterility, as well as to general flower dynamics in relation to environmental conditions. Efforts have been made to develop strains of alfalfa having pollen that is resistant to injury by moisture or having self-tripping flowers or autogamous strains of alfalfa whose flowers …

This bulletin constitutes a final report of some phases of cooperative drainage studies in Cache Valley, Utah. The drainage problem in Cache Valley is typical, in many respects, of drainage problems in other irrigated valleys of Utah and the West in general. Application of the principles indicated by the problems will doubtless add materially to the productivity of the land in the several communities concerned and will also contribute to the advancement of public welfare in the general improvement of health, economic, and social conditions. Why children playing together, working together, under conditions which apparently vary but little, should exhibit such wide variation in health conditions, is a question of vital importance to all concerned with the care of children.

Project 90-A Study of Factors Influencing the Financial Condition of Certain Utah Irrigation and Drainage Projects-was undertaken in 1928 as an intensified study of local areas. This study was divided among four departments, with a project leader for each particular phase of the study. These four project leaders, guided by the Station Director, have constituted a committee in immediate charge of this project. Subprojects and their respective leaders are: A-Engineering and Engineering Economic Aspects, O. W. Israelsen; B-Soil Productivity Aspects , D. S. Jennings; C- Contributing Sociological Aspects, J. A. Geddes; and D-Economic Aspects, W. Preston Thomas.

The Utah Intermountain Egg-Laying Contests were begun on November 1, 1924, and continued until October 23, 1931. Up until this time the interest in poultry-breeding for egg production in this intermountain section was extremely limited; furthermore, there were few flocks on which trap nest and pedigree breeding records were kept.

The primary object in conducting these contests was to stimulate an interest in the breeding of better poultry. An egg-laying contest makes it possible for the poultry raiser, trying to get started in poultry-breedng work on a limited scale, to obtain accurate individual egg records of some of his pullets …

It has frequently been observed by practical stockmen that alfalfa hay produced on poor unproductive land has a much lower feeding value than hay produced on good productive land. Some have also observed that by the use of a supplemental feed rich in phosphorus (such as steamed bone-meal), the feeding value of this poor quality alfalfa hay may be improved, indicating that phosphorus deficiency is at least one cause of its low feeding value.

This bulletin includes the results of Station Project 99-Fattening Lambs in Winter Drylot-which was begun at Monroe on November 15, 1928, and at Delta on November 13, 1929. The experiment was conducted for a period of four years at Monroe and for one year at Delta. Messers Alma and Milton Magelby of Monroe were closely associated with the Monroe experiment, furnishing the yards and the lambs as well as the feed used; the Monroe Lamb-feeders Association also cooperated in conducting this experiment.
