Management Development In Selected Small Manufacturing Industries In The State Of Utah, Louis Klein Jr. May 1956

Management Development In Selected Small Manufacturing Industries In The State Of Utah, Louis Klein Jr.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Utah is fast becoming an industrial state. A wide variety of industrial concerns, both large and small, have arisen during recent years in mining, manufacturing, processing, refining, transportation and related fields of industry. With the further development in water power, uranium, natural gas, oil, steel, fertilizer and others, many more industrial organizations will likely come into the industrial picture in Utah.

In order to grow, progress and survive in a highly competitive industrial system, an industry must have a strong organization. A strong organization is the result of a trained and experienced management team.

One of the functions of management …

A Comparison Of L.D.S. With Non-L.D.S. In Regard To Organizational Participation In Clearfield, Utah, Merlin C. Leonhardt

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Studies have shown that those who are active in community organizations are more satisfied with life and, as a result. are better, adjusted socially. In that case, it is of value to know where an ample degree of participation is found and what institutions and organizations do most to motivate activity among its members. This is an attempt to make such a study in regard to religious groups.

Land Fragmentation And Water Utilization In Relation To Their Social Milieu, Paragonah, Utah, Robert G. Painter May 1956

Land Fragmentation And Water Utilization In Relation To Their Social Milieu, Paragonah, Utah, Robert G. Painter

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Practices of land use in Utah show need for community action aimed at more adequate utilization of land and water resources. Use of land for crop production in Utah is limited by topography, soil type, elevation, climate, and moisture (26, p.3). Because of limitations imposed, only a small portion of the land area may be used for cultivated farming. As a rule, large land holdings in Utah are not regularly tilled but are used as range for raising livestock.

Farm cropland may be separated into two general classes: irrigated and dry-land. In general, the cropland of most farms is entirely …

Factors Causing Non-Completion Of Registration At Utah State Agricultural College During The School Year 1955-56, Richard J. Barney

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The prospective student who has been accepted and who fails to arrive on the college campus despite his apparent intentions presents a problem to secondary school principals as well as to college officials. Non-arrivals are common on the admissions records of every college or university. (14) Alden B. Threasher reports admissions attrition percentages ranged from 3 percent to 55 percent with averages of 27 percent to 46 percent in a study of 58 institutions grouped by type.

Bulletin No. 378 - Labor Structure And Labor Problems: Utah Sheep Ranches, 1952-1953, William A. Dehart, William H. Metzler

UAES Bulletins

This study deals with the problem sheep ranchers have in recruiting workers to meet their labor needs. Consideration is given to the composition of the work force on sheep ranches, to wages, the amount and causes of labor turnover, and to ways to reduce turnover. Labor recruitment practices are also discussed and evaluated in terms of available sources of farm labor, the possibilities of maintaining a stable supply, and the effect of farm labor problems on recent changes in the operations of sheep ranch enterprises. The primary focus of attention is on regular hired labor on Utah sheep ranches, although …

The study to be reported in the following pages is an exploratory investigation of the social experiences, adjustments, and attitudes of Iranian students at the Utah State Agricultural College. It was devised as a preliminary, not a terminal, investigation. Two possible avenues of further research were considered when the scope of the study was delimited.

  1. A study of the social experience and adjustment of all foreign students in Logan, irrespective of nationality.
  2. A study of the social experience and adjustment of Iranian students--in the United States and after their return home--irrespective of school attended in the United States.

Both types …

Participation In Extracurricular Activities By Advanced Af Rotc Cadets And Their Leadership Ratings, Richard C. Strasser

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Some of the principal objectives of the AF ROTC program are: "to develop those attributes of character, personality and leadership which are essential to an officer of the USAF;" (22, p 3) "to develop the art of influencing people to cooperate enthusiastically in carrying out a mission:" (21, p 1) and "to provide the students with the knowledge and understanding which will enable them to serve as junior officers of the USAF." (22, p 3)

The teaching of leadership is difficult due to the abstract nature of the subject. The term is difficult to define. It is a characteristic that …

A Comparative Study Of The Mexican-Indian Students In The Carbon County Schools, John C. Winn May 1955

A Comparative Study Of The Mexican-Indian Students In The Carbon County Schools, John C. Winn

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Often expressed claims which amounted to a general belief among many of the administrators of the schools of Carbon County were the stimulus for this study. The claims generally expressed were that the Mexican-Indian students of the schools did not have as good ability, did not achieve as well, were poorer attenders, caused a larger amount of difficulty and delinquency and did not adjust to the school society as well proportionately as their co-students of other nationalities. It was stated that while many nationality groups were represented in the school population, that other groups were oriented, assimilated and amalgamated into …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

As the graduates of colleges and universities receive their diplomas and leave their Alma Mater, a new and different challenge confronts them. Their problem now is not one of being free of the struggles of completing their education but rather the anticipation of what will be their success in the future. They feel that now they are qualified to take over new jobs and responsibilities for which they have been trained. Many will be successful in securing good positions in their respective fields (others may have to start at the bottom and gain their advancement through more learning while on …

A Study Of Instructional Practices And Recommendations Of Thirty-Five Successful Biological Science Teachers In The Secondary Schools Of Utah, Gerald H. Raat Jr. May 1955

A Study Of Instructional Practices And Recommendations Of Thirty-Five Successful Biological Science Teachers In The Secondary Schools Of Utah, Gerald H. Raat Jr.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study is concerned with the teaching of biology in Utah secondary schools. It is based chiefly on analysis of: (1) the teaching procedures used by thirty-five teachers of biology in Utah who were designated by their principals as being outstanding teachers, and (2) the facilities and equipment these teachers think are essential.

As long as schools exist there will be need for studies concerning teaching methods, facilities, and equipment. Man's ever-widening knowledge about science and the wide range in abilities of pupils in our schools make such studies in science particularly important. Perhaps the following will serve to emphasize …

Bulletin No. 373 - Biennial Report Of The Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, 1952-1954

UAES Bulletins

Our way of life is based on the ability of our agriculture to produce abundantly, efficiently, and at a low cost; and the position of agriculture today is largely a result of the research efforts of the state agricultural experiment stations and the United States Department of Agriculture. In the 66 years since the establishment of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, its scientists have found solutions to many of the problems peculiar to its location, topography, and climate. It is logical to rely on these same research forces to solve the problems of the future.

During the past biennium a …

Bulletin No. 369 - Impact Of Urbanization In Davis County, Utah, Therel R. Black, Carmen D. Frederickson, William A. Dehart, C. Jay Skidmore, Don C. Carter Aug 1954

Bulletin No. 369 - Impact Of Urbanization In Davis County, Utah, Therel R. Black, Carmen D. Frederickson, William A. Dehart, C. Jay Skidmore, Don C. Carter

UAES Bulletins

This study of Davis County should assist community leaders to understand some areas of change and possible effects of changes in an urbanizing area and to understand possible sources of friction and cooperation. It should help residents of any urbanizing area to understand personal adjustments that may be necessary. Such understanding is needed by Utah's residents because Utah is becoming urban-in fact, approximately two-thirds of her population was urban in 1950. A brief summary of the study of Utah's fastest growing county shows the following changes during the 1940-1950 decade.

A Determination Of Variability Of Teaching Assignments In The Secondary Schools Of Utah Together With Implications For Teacher Education Curricula, June Butler Willhite May 1954

A Determination Of Variability Of Teaching Assignments In The Secondary Schools Of Utah Together With Implications For Teacher Education Curricula, June Butler Willhite

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

It is usually recognized that, in the broad sense, our public schools are maintained for the instruction of children and youth. Moreover, there appear to be three important factors which bear directly upon the nature of this instruction: (1) the individuals who enter the teaching profession, the kinds of people they are, their physical, emotional and mental characteristics or capacities; (2) the kind of education these potential educators receive in preparation for their professional work; and, (3) the actual teaching assignment the individual receives in the particular school where he is employed. Commonly, these three matters are referred to as …
