Some Effects Of Different Temperatures On The Development Of The Black Grass Bug (Labops Hesperius Uhler) From The Egg Through The Adult Stage, Osiris L. Paraqueima
Biology
A study of some effects of different temperatures on the development of the black grass bug (Labops hesperius Uhler) was conducted in the laboratory and the results compared with the insect's development in the field. The purpose of this study was to develop a method of rearing grass bugs in the laboratory so research with these insects could be conducted all year, and to formulate a growing degree hour model that might help predict hatching and development of the bugs in the laboratory and field, and be a guide in timing proper control measures in the field. L. hesperius were …
Non-Linear Ordination: Field And Computer Simulation Testing Of A New Method, Donald L. Phillips
Non-Linear Ordination: Field And Computer Simulation Testing Of A New Method, Donald L. Phillips
Biology
Recent studies suggest problems resulting from using essentially linear ordination techniques on non-linear ecological data. A new non-linear method, termed polynomial ordination, was developed in response to these problems. Its effectiveness was compared to that of two standard techniques, Bray-Curtis ordination and principal components analysis, by testing with both simulated and field data. The original species axes are resolved into their principal components. If significant curvilinear relationships between principal components are present, new axes are defined along these curves. The positions of the sample points along the axes are then coordinatized. Using simulated data, the coordinates of the sample points …
A Study Of The Need For A Personal-Use Typewriting Class At Utah State University, Rolayne Day Earl
A Study Of The Need For A Personal-Use Typewriting Class At Utah State University, Rolayne Day Earl
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
As early as 1926, typewriting began to change from a strictly vocational skill to a multi-use skill that included nonvocational aspects. Since the skills required for vocational purposes are not the same as those required for personal use, typewriting instructors developed courses for those interested in learning personal-use typewriting.
The overall objective of a personal-use typewriting class is to equip the students with enough skill and knowledge to be able to express themselves "directly on paper without stumbling over the mechanics of either typing or language skills." The college class In personal-use typewriting is usually a one-semester class emphasizing composition …

Rodent Density And Species Composition In The Snake River Birds Of Prey Natural Area, Idaho, Jon R. Montan Jr.
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Rodent densities were estimated in the major vegetation types of the Snake River Birds of Prey Natural Area in 1975 and 1976 by a combination of live-trapping and kill-trapping. Only deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus) were numerous enough to permit reliable density estimates. Relative densities of other rodent species were indicated by kill-trap capture rates. Densities of deer mice correlated well (r = 0.99) with kill-trap capture rates. The use of kill-trapping in place of live-trapping in 1976 permitted extensive sampling throughout the 1930 km2 study area. Differences were found among the major vegetation and land-use types in …

Shoshoni Conceptualizations Of Plant Relationships, Bryan Ray Spykerman
Shoshoni Conceptualizations Of Plant Relationships, Bryan Ray Spykerman
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Interviews were conducted with 10 Shoshoni-speaking people to investigate conceptualizations of plant relationships. A card-sort technique and informal questioning were employed in an attempt to elicit plant classifications and taxonomic relationships. Results indicate classifications are based on multiple criteria including morphology, cultural utilization, geographic setting and growth habit. A paradigm which postulates conceptualizations based on prototypic images fits the data better than the supposition that memory is composed of extensive taxonomic structures.
