Breeding Soundness Evaluation Of Bulls, Clell V. Bagley, C. Kim Chapman Nov 2005

Breeding Soundness Evaluation Of Bulls, Clell V. Bagley, C. Kim Chapman

All Current Publications

Very few bulls are “sterile” and unable to produce any offspring. But, 10% to 25% of bulls have reduced fertility or possess physical problems which reduce their ability to sire calves. The breeding soundness evaluation (BSE) is a useful tool in identifying these bulls. Eliminating bulls with physical problems or reduced fertility from the breeding herd will improve overall reproductive efficiency of the herd.

Located in the Rocky Mountain Region, Utah derives its name from the Native American Ute tribe and means “people of the mountains”. Utah is 84,900 square miles and is ranked the 11th largest state (in terms of square miles) in the US. As hosts of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Utah boasts the “greatest snow on earth” and is the home of 18 colorful National Parks and monuments. Utah's peaks are, on average, the tallest in the country and create great contrasts that range from the snow covered peaks of the Uinta Range in the east, to the renowned natural …

Final Environmental Assessment: Proposed Demolition Of 12 Structures, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Randal Klein, Kay Winn Aug 2005

Final Environmental Assessment: Proposed Demolition Of 12 Structures, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Randal Klein, Kay Winn

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

Hill AFB proposes to accommodate current United States Air Force (USAF) missions by demolishing 12 structures on Hill AFB. All 12 buildings have both aged and deteriorated to the point they cannot be economically repaired or remodeled. Seven of the 12 buildings would be demolished without being replaced in kind. For five of the 12 buildings, military construction (MILCON) projects would provide new facilities to house the activities that are or were being performed in the deteriorated structures. The proposed action and the no action alternative were both considered in detail. Following the demolition phase, backfill and revegetation operations would …

C-Smarts: Colorado Students And Mentors Applying Research And Technology In Space, Chris Koehler Aug 2005

C-Smarts: Colorado Students And Mentors Applying Research And Technology In Space, Chris Koehler

Small Satellite Conference

Colorado Students and Mentors Applying Research and Technology in Space (C-SMARTS) is a new, portable, hands-on higher education program that involved 126 students from four Colorado colleges along with 22 engineers and scientists from 11 aerospace companies and three research centers. C-SMARTS is different than traditional hands-on learning found in university labs in that all lectures and activities lead to the construction and integration of a working satellite. Students involved with the C-SMARTS program have gained valuable experiences and training, and have gained a level confidence in themselves and their abilities. Companies can hire these students with experience in their …

A Comprehensive Ecological Land Classification For Utah's West Desert, Neil E. West, Frank L. Dougher, Gerald S. Manis, R. Douglas Ramsey Jul 2005

A Comprehensive Ecological Land Classification For Utah's West Desert, Neil E. West, Frank L. Dougher, Gerald S. Manis, R. Douglas Ramsey

Wildland Resources Faculty Publications

Land managers and scientists need context in which to interpolate between or extrapolate beyond discrete field points in space and time. Ecological classification of land (ECL) is one way by which these relationships can be made. Until regional issues emerged and calls were made for ecosystem management (EM), each land management institution chose its own ECLs. The need for economic efficiency and the increasing availability of geographic information systems (GIS) compel the creation of a national ECL so that communication across ownership boundaries can occur. ECOMAP, an 8-level, top-down, nested, hierarchical, multivariable approach designed to solve this problem has been …

Modular Neural Network To Predict The Distribution Of Nitrate In Ground Water Using On-Ground Nitrogen Loading And Recharge Data, M. Almasri, Jagath J. Kaluarachchi Jul 2005

Modular Neural Network To Predict The Distribution Of Nitrate In Ground Water Using On-Ground Nitrogen Loading And Recharge Data, M. Almasri, Jagath J. Kaluarachchi

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

Artificial neural networks have proven to be an attractive mathematical tool to represent complex relationships in many branches of hydrology. Due to this attractive feature, neural networks are increasingly being applied in subsurface modeling where intricate physical processes and lack of detailed field data prevail. In this paper, a methodology using modular neural networks (MNN) is proposed to simulate the nitrate concentrations in an agriculture-dominated aquifer. The methodology relies on geographic information system (GIS) tools in the preparation and processing of the MNN input–output data. The basic premise followed in developing the MNN input–output response patterns is to designate the …
