Aspen Grove Use By Deer, Elk, And Cattle In Southwestern Coniferous Forests, Hudson G. Reynolds
Aspen Bibliography
Aspen groves within mixed conifer forests produce more herbaceous understory than adjacent forest. Thinning aspen groves improves herbaceous understory and aspen regeneration. Higher deer and cattle use of aspen groves is associated with the greater abundance of understory vegetation.

Protein Payments Now?, A. Lebaron, D. Gardner
Protein Payments Now?, A. Lebaron, D. Gardner
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
Early in 1967 a dye technique for measuring the amount of protein in fluid milk was granted "official, first action approval by the Association of Analytical Chemists. Since the fluid milk conversion factor also gives excellent results in tests on finished products, manufacturers can now account for all protein purchased. The dye technique thus removes the main technical barriers to widespread adoption of systems of direct protein payments to dairy farmers.

Economics Of Utilizing Sagebrush Ranges, Darwin B. Nielsen
Economics Of Utilizing Sagebrush Ranges, Darwin B. Nielsen
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
Individual ranchers want to know if it is profitable to make investments in range improvement. Public land agencies are also interested in the economics of range improvements, especially with the pressure for economic justification by Public Programs Budget System (P.P.B.S.). Several alternative approaches to economic justification of range improvements will be discussed in this paper.

The Effect Of Age, Skf 525-A Hydrochloride, And Chlorcyclizine Dihydrochloride On The Toxicity Of Parathion To Adult Alkali Bees, Nomia Melanderi Ckll, Mohammad J. Moradeshaghi
Biology
Technical parathion, 98.5 per cent pure, was further purified by column chromatography in a darkened room. The purity of this parathion was measured by a manometric technique (Nakatsugawa and Dahm, 1962; 1965). Only 5 per cent inhibition at 2.5 x 10-5 molar parathion was observed with horse serum cholinesterase. Alkali bee prepupae were dug from their natural sites, and reared under the laboratory conditions until they emerged. The bees were kept in one quart mason jars, and they were fed a 25 per cent aqueous sucrose solution. All biological assays were conducted by topical application of 1 microliter of …

Development Of Eimeria Bovis In Cultured Mammalian Cells, Ronald Fayer
Biology
Cell line and established cell line cultures were tested for their ability to support in vitro development of Eimeria bovis. Among the cell types tested were embryonic bovine kidney, spleen, thymus, testicle, intestine and trachea cells, embryonic human intestine cells, mouse L cells, and Madin-Darby adult bovine kidney cells. Monolayer cell cultures were serially propagated in disposable prescription bottles and transferred to Leighton tubes for use in experiments. Coverslips from Leighton tube cultures inoculated with sporozoites were examined with phase-contrast or Zeiss Nomarski interference contrast microscopy for as long as 21 days after inoculation. After examination, coverslips were fixed …
Local Distribution In A Population Of Uinta Ground Squirrels, Robert Edgar Walker
Local Distribution In A Population Of Uinta Ground Squirrels, Robert Edgar Walker
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In an attempt to describe, explain, and show the demographic significance of annual variations in the nesting distribution of Uinta ground squirrels, a study was conducted during the summers of 1964 through 1967 in northern Utah. Procedures included both trapping and direct observation.
It was found that females tended to nest in open, previously inhabited, grassy areas. Males resided throughout a variety of habitats.
This typical nesting distribution was established initially in the summer by juveniles shortly after they first appeared aboveground. The extent to which the distribution was maintained the following spring depended largely upon the number of female …

The Role Of Agonistic Behavior In Regulation Of Density In Uinta Ground Squirrels (Citellus Armatus), Richard J. Burns
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Agonistic behavior of ground squirrels was studied for two years in north-eastern Utah at an elevation of 6,300 feet. The main objective was to determine what role agonistic behavior had in regulating density in a population. All individuals in an unconfined population were trapped I marked I and observed from towers. Detailed data on behavior and density were recorded.
Though loss from a variety of factors occurred throughout the year I agonistic behavior had an important role in regulating the population at least twice during the year. In spring some squirrels I usually yearling males and late emerging yearling females, …

The relationship between breadth of perspective, defined as the range of alternative solutions that one is able to bring to mind when presented with a problem, and selected aptitude and background factors was studied. Scholastic aptitude was the chosen aptitude factor. The background factors chosen were: (1) size of home town; (2) number of towns lived in; (3) number of children in the family of origin; (4) the subject's perception of his travel experience; (5) number of books read during the past year; and (6) number of friends of other nationalities.
The sample consisted of 130 female students from five …
Waterfowl Ecology And Utilization Of Uinta Mountain Water Areas, Steven Roger Peterson
Waterfowl Ecology And Utilization Of Uinta Mountain Water Areas, Steven Roger Peterson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Waterfowl utilization was recorded by observing study units at different elevations from the time water areas were thawed in the spring until they were frozen in the fall.
Sixteen species of waterfowl were observed in the Uinta Mountain; mallards, green-winged teal, pintails, and ring-necked ducks were breeders.
Ninety-eight percent of all waterfowl observed were below 10,000 feet.
Waterfowl numbers were highest during migratory periods and lowest in the breeding season.
Adult waterfowl were observed most often on natural water areas and beaver ponds greater than one acre.
Water areas at lower elevations had high indices of aquatic invertebrates and contained …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Dinosaur National Monument, in northwestern Colorado and northeastern Utah, is comprised of 206,409 acres and contains several deer winter ranges. A need for deer studies developed because of winter deer mortality and deteriorating range conditions on some parts of the Monument.
Approximately 500 deer winter on the Yampa Bench and approximately 300 deer winter on the Island Park winter range. These are the two main winter ranges within the Monument.
Deer on the Yampa Bench migrated an average of 7.3 air miles to the south and summered on the Blue Mountain Plateau during the summer of 1966. This Plateau is …
Linear Programming Applied To Sheep Ranching In Utah, William R. Flint
Linear Programming Applied To Sheep Ranching In Utah, William R. Flint
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The study was initiated to determine how sheep ranches were physically and economically organized in 1964 and to select range and livestock management alternatives which would be profitable to sheep ranches. With data collected from the ranches three model ranches, representing the three most prominent strata, were constructed. These strata were determined by number of breeding ewes that were on the ranch and by the season of grazing on government land, i.e., winter, summer, or year around. After the building of these three ranches, each of them was linear programmed to find the profit maximizing combination of resources both before …

A Study Of Spelling Errors Made By Milford Second Grade Children During 1966, Athene Roberts
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Spelling is the writing of symbols to represent to other people the words and thoughts in the mind of the individual who is writing. Rarely, if ever, does anyone want to write a word which he has not used orally or which he has not heard. The task of spelling correctly is to be sure these symbols are the ones which are accepted and recognized by others (Hanna and Hanna, 1959).

Nutrition During Pregnancy, Lactation And Infancy, Minodokht Froozani
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
In many countries in South and East Asia, most diets are defective in quality, even when there is not a severe shortage of food. They do. not provide an adequate quantity of essential nutrients. One of the most severe deficiencies is in good quality protein. The solution to this problem is to produce and provide the right kinds of foods and to establish national food production policies which should make it possible to plan a better balanced diet based on sound nutritional principles and modern knowledge of nutritional requirements. Some degree of undernutrition, over-nutrition, or malnutrition occurs in most European …
Interest As A Factor In Vocational Choice, Leland J. Smith
Interest As A Factor In Vocational Choice, Leland J. Smith
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
As the complexities of modern life increase, greater caution has to be exercised in the selection of an appropriate vocational choice. Norris, Zeran and Hatch (1960, p. 5) state, "The dramatic changes which have taken place in the world during the past twenty-five years have created new demands on the training programs which furnish the skilled leaders in all vocational pursuits." The foregoing statement certainly points out the vocational implications of our changing society. Mortensen and Schmuller (1951, p. 199) report, "The entire area of interests is today receiving added emphasis." The study of interest continues to occupy an important …
Learning Theory As Applied To The Counseling Process, Melvin H. Larsen
Learning Theory As Applied To The Counseling Process, Melvin H. Larsen
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The literature contains much about learning. But, what do we mean by learning?
Learning is the process by which an activity originates or is changed through reacting to an encountered situation, provided that the characteristics of the change in activity cannot be explained on the basis of native response tendencies, maturation, or temporary states of the organism (e.g., fatigue, drugs, etc.). (Hilgard, 1966, p. 2)
Effective counseling requires that the client learn. Even though client learning is essential to effective counseling, relatively little has been done to relate learning theory to the counseling process. Significant work in this direction has …

The tissues from calves were prepared by routine histological techniques for nicroscopic examination. First-generation asexual endogenous stages were located …
Development And Control Of Licking Behavior In The Guinea Pig (Cavia Porcellus), Jack R. Alvord
Development And Control Of Licking Behavior In The Guinea Pig (Cavia Porcellus), Jack R. Alvord
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Four non-licking guinea pigs were reinforced with water for successive approximations to licking an operandum feeder. Once all subjects had obtained their total liquid intake for a three-week period by licking, an optimum deprivation schedule was determined.
Fixed ratio and variable interval schedules were found to affect licking behavior of the guinea pig in a similar way as with the rat, mean lick rate of guinea pigs being slightly lower than that of the rat. Precise control over the onset and offset of licking was demonstrated through discrimination training.
Food And Nutritional Needs Of The World Population By 2000 A. D., Sitaram Shankar Kharbas
Food And Nutritional Needs Of The World Population By 2000 A. D., Sitaram Shankar Kharbas
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Investigations were carried out to project the food needs of the world population by 2000 A. D., and to explore the possibilities of meeting these requirements.
About 70 percent of the world population presently living in developing countries do not get adequate diets, and suffer from many diseases of under-nutrition and malnutrition. They are unable to increase food production themselves. People in the developed nations have enough food and their food production is increasing at a rate faster than the rate of growth of population.
Cultivable land is the main source of food for man. The seas can also be …
