The Mediating Effect Of Psychological Empowerment On Inclusive Leadership And Innovative Work Behaviour: A Research In Hotels, Emete Toros, Ahmet Maslakci, Lutfi Surucu
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Managers and academics frequently emphasize the importance of innovation and the innovative business behaviours of employees in organizations for achieving long-term success and a sustainable competitive advantage. In this research, a conceptual model including inclusive leadership, innovative work behaviour and psychological empowerment is proposed to further the understanding of the premises of innovative work behaviour and to expand the literature. The questionnaire that was prepared for the purposes of the research was administered to 5-star hotel staff in the northern part of Cyprus (N = 457). The results were analysed using SPSS and AMOS software. The findings show that inclusive …
Novelty And Success Of Healthcare Service Innovation: A Comparison Between China And The Netherlands, Yu Mu, Rujun Wang, Ying Huang
Novelty And Success Of Healthcare Service Innovation: A Comparison Between China And The Netherlands, Yu Mu, Rujun Wang, Ying Huang
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Service innovation has been a hot research topic in general and also in the specific healthcare context. In the literature empirical evidence about the impact of novelty of service innovation on its success is inconclusive. A plausible explanation is that the used analytical frameworks do not fully capture the complexity of service innovation. This study employs a four-dimension framework of novelty and posits that the success of service innovation does not depend on individual dimensions. Based on the set-membership theory with a configurational analysis, as well as a comparison between Chinese and Dutch healthcare systems, this study puts forward propositions …

A Pedagogical Framework For A Paradigm Shift In Emergency Paramedic Training: Rescue Service Schools Between Requirement Conflicts And Learning Culture Development, Thomas Prescher, Heiko Konig, Christian Wiesner
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
The discussion around changing the culture of teaching and learning with a stronger focus on competence-oriented teaching within a framework of self-development and self-appropriation is not a new discussion in pedagogy. It is apparent that a competence-oriented learning paradigm is required, the need for its implementation has been clearly recognized, however the way to achieve it remains unclear. This paper outlines the paradigm of competence-oriented teaching and learning based on the understanding of constructive alignment. This is the basis for demonstrating, from a system-theoretical perspective, contradictions and conflicting requirements between the entities of the health care system, which can only …

Affective Commitment In New Hires’ Onboarding? The Role Of Organizational Socialization In The Fashion Retail Industry, Pui S. Chan, Ho C. Ching, Pui Y. Ng, Annie Ko
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Fashion retail companies often lack a well-structured onboarding program which consequently result in lower staff commitment and a higher turnover rate. Organizational socialization plays an important role to acculture new hires learn about their work, organizational value, and adjust to the workplace. This study examined the content dimensions of organizational socialization and investigated new hires’ attitudes towards such areas. The results of exploratory factor analysis revealed seven dimensions of organizational socialization in the domain of the fashion retail industry. Regression analysis suggested a 4-factor model for improving new hires’ affective commitment to the organization. These factors are permeation with organizational …
Measuring Parental Involvement As Parental Actions In Children’S Private Music Lessons In China, Cancan Cui
Measuring Parental Involvement As Parental Actions In Children’S Private Music Lessons In China, Cancan Cui
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Anonymity has long been discussed as a source of disinhibition. The myth of the Ring of Gyges illustrates how a person may act immorally solely because they know they will not be caught (Plato, 375/2017). Incorporating perspectives of rational choice and deterrence, anonymity serves as a form of risk reduction within hedonistic calculus (Beccaria, 1764/1963; Bentham, 1781/2000). Analogous to the myth of the Ring of Gyges (Plato, 375/2017), techniques of anonymity “hide” users from others while online. These techniques serve as a form of risk reduction, reducing the certainty of punishment (Becarria 1764/1963). Additionally, there are many ways by which …
Poetic Justice: A Counter-Narrative Of The First Black Male Principal In A Coastal Community Since The Desegregation Era, Adrian Anthony
Poetic Justice: A Counter-Narrative Of The First Black Male Principal In A Coastal Community Since The Desegregation Era, Adrian Anthony
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Entering a new school as a new principal, and the first black male administrator in a community since the desegregation era, was fraught with challenges that have a universal cadence. Additionally, the three-year school turnaround initiative I entered had its own unique barriers. My voice quivers, my head sinks low, my eyes averted but this no more, for I uphold the mantle of men of bronze, for I will lead within this challenge and my voice will go on (Anthony, 2020). Using critical race theory as a framework with counter-storytelling I examined leadership and different forms of racial and gender …
Students’ Perceptions Of Factors Contributing To Enrollment In Arabic Courses At A College Level, Qays Q. Majeed
Students’ Perceptions Of Factors Contributing To Enrollment In Arabic Courses At A College Level, Qays Q. Majeed
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this evaluation was to investigate the factors that contribute to students’ recruitment and retention in the Arabic program at my college. The two questions guiding this evaluation were: (1) what factors influence students to join the Arabic program at my college and (2) what factors influence students to continue to enroll in subsequent higher-level Arabic courses? To accomplish this evaluation, I conducted interviews with six former students --four women and two men--in the Arabic program. Eight themes emerged following analysis of data. The findings show that students joined the Arabic program for a variety of reasons. Several …
Exploring Educators' Sensemaking Of Statewide Professional Learning For Educational Decision-Making Within An Mtss, Sarah E. Thoman
Exploring Educators' Sensemaking Of Statewide Professional Learning For Educational Decision-Making Within An Mtss, Sarah E. Thoman
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative inquiry explored district-based educators’ sensemaking of an ongoing, statewide professional learning series focused on special education eligibility for students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) using a response-to-intervention (RtI) approach within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). Specifically, the professional learning series was designed as a community of practice (CoP; Lave & Wenger, 1991) with both face-to-face and virtual activities. The professional learning series was in its second year of implementation and educators in the first two cohorts (Cohort 1 and Cohort 2) of the series were the participants in this study. The theoretical framework of sensemaking (Weick, 1995) …
School Music Administration During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Trauma, Loss, Meaning, Change, And Innovation, Christopher Burns
School Music Administration During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Trauma, Loss, Meaning, Change, And Innovation, Christopher Burns
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
On Friday, March 13, 2020, the School District of Osceola closed its doors for Spring Break and did not open again until 3 weeks later in a digital capacity. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way teachers and students learned. The band, chorus, and orchestra classrooms were empty, and replaced with digital meetings with the need to unmute and turn cameras on. This study is an autoethnographic narrative of my life during the COVID-19 pandemic as a district resource for the teachers that I serve. While music administration has existed in many forms over the past 100 years, there are no …
Educators’ Sensemaking Of Data Within An Mtss Framework: An Exploratory Case Study, Stephanie Marie Green
Educators’ Sensemaking Of Data Within An Mtss Framework: An Exploratory Case Study, Stephanie Marie Green
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine how educators working within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework make sense of data, how they use data for instructional decision-making, and how the data use cultures at the district and school levels influence this data use. The study was designed with a theoretical framework informed by the sensemaking about student outcomes model (Bertrand & Marsh, 2015), the data literacy for teaching framework (Mandinach & Gummer, 2016c), and the data use cultures framework (Firestone & Gonzales, 2007). I explored these issues through a case study methodology, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, document …

An Investigation Of The Effects Of Information System Literacy And Business Process Management On Organizational Performance, Ozel Sebetci
An Investigation Of The Effects Of Information System Literacy And Business Process Management On Organizational Performance, Ozel Sebetci
Journal of Global Business Insights
Information systems bring about many innovation opportunities for organizations. However, there are also several factors affecting these opportunities that need to be investigated. Therefore, taking this necessity as a starting point, the present study was conducted to provide an insight into the associations between Information Systems Literacy (ISL), and the analytical approach, as well as Business Process Management (BPM) usage and organization performance. To this end, a structural model has been developed to define the link between design, methodology and approach structures and study the mediating effect on the relationship between ISL, analytical approach, BPM, and organization performance. A questionnaire …
The Role Of Financial Insecurity And Expectations On Perspectives Of Mental Health Services Among Refugees, Jacqueline M. Siven
The Role Of Financial Insecurity And Expectations On Perspectives Of Mental Health Services Among Refugees, Jacqueline M. Siven
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines how perspectives of mental health among refugees are situated within the realities of the refugee resettlement system, a population for which information on this issue is quite limited. Through in-depth interviews and participant observation with Congolese refugees and non-Congolese refugee-serving professionals in a major Florida city, this dissertation examines how perceptions of mental health and mental health services among refugees were affected by financial insecurity and disparities in expectations. Local Congolese refugees expected the American Dream; they believed that once they arrived they would find prosperity through hard work. Instead they experienced frustration and distress because the …
An Exploration Of Teachers’ Use Of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Ethic Of Care, And Reflectivity, Johan Von Ancken
An Exploration Of Teachers’ Use Of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Ethic Of Care, And Reflectivity, Johan Von Ancken
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A variety of educational reform literature discusses the “ethic of care” and “building relationships,” along with culturally relevant/responsive pedagogy (Gorski, 2013; Guajardo, M., Guajardo F., & Casaperalta, 2008; Ladson-Billings, 1992, 1995). In addition, “Appreciative Organizing in Education (AOE)” (Barrett & Fry, 2008; Burello, Beitz, & Mann, 2015; Cooperrider, Whitney, & Stavros, 2008) with its emphasis on strengths-based analysis of organizational change shaped my perception that a “Culture of Care” in our schools and with our teachers, administrators, and most importantly students, is necessary.
The notion of “culturally appropriate” (Au & Jordan, 1981, p. 139) pedagogy began over 35 years ago …

Leapfrogging At Work: Influencing Higher Levels In The Chain Of Command, Sharon Segrest, Martha C. Andrews, Scott W. Geiger, Dan Marlin, Patricia G. Martinez, Pamela L. Perrewe, Gerald R. Ferris
USF St. Petersburg Campus Faculty Publications
Purpose – Acts of interpersonal influence are observed throughout organizations, and most typically, in direct supervisor–subordinate relationships. However, researchers have focused less on subordinates bypassing the chain of command and targeting their supervisor’s supervisor with influence attempts. We conceptualize a new term, “leapfrogging,” as subordinates’ attempts to influence and manage the impressions of their supervisor’s supervisor. Here we focus on influencing the target’s perception of likability (the focus of ingratiation) and competence (the focus of self-promotion). This study focuses on its personal and situational antecedents. Design/methodology/approach – Given the central role of social exchange and psychological processes within this phenomenon, …
An Evaluation Of The Effects Of The Hillsborough County Public Schools (Hcps) Principal Induction Program On Principal Performance, Gloria Waite

The principal at all instructional levels holds an awesome responsibility of ensuring that students receive the instruction that they need to be successful. They are responsible for both the management of the building and their employees as well as the instruction that students receive. Interactions include working with students, teachers, parents and community members to create a positive school culture that promotes student success.
Expectations for schools are great and are measured by school grade in the state of Florida. School grades are determined by the performance of students on state assessments. The components of the school grade are updated …
Students' Perceptions On Alternative Break Experiences And Selecting An Academic Major In A Four-Year College, Bianny Fernández Collado
Students' Perceptions On Alternative Break Experiences And Selecting An Academic Major In A Four-Year College, Bianny Fernández Collado
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Research shows that 50-80% of college students are exploratory/undecided or appear as declared and will change their major at least once. Although higher education institutions have developed and implemented several initiatives to assist students with selecting an academic major, students are struggling to reach this milestone. According to Gebhard (2015), real-world and experiential opportunities successfully prepare students to select an academic major. Thus, the purpose of this qualitative exploratory study is to describe in-depth a phenomenon: how a service-based experience, offered through an Alternative Breaks (aB) program may prepare student participants for the selection of an academic major. The study …
An Evaluation Of The Effects Of A Student Trajectory Enhancement Program (Step Up) On High School Performance, Odalys G. Pritchard
An Evaluation Of The Effects Of A Student Trajectory Enhancement Program (Step Up) On High School Performance, Odalys G. Pritchard
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Student Trajectory Enhancement Program (STEP UP) was launched in 2014 by Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) as a six-week summer program that targeted over-age, retained, potentially under-achieving students completing the sixth grade. The purpose of this study was to conduct a summative evaluation of the effectiveness of the STEP UP program in keeping program participants “on track” for high school graduation and to determine if the intended goals of the program were realized.
STEP UP was developed in response to compelling data that there is an unacceptably high number of overage students in middle school in HCPS. STEP UP …

Using The Consolidated Framework For Implementation Research To Investigate Daily Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Df) Implementation Via Community-Based Hiv Testing Sites In Florida, Deanne E. Turner
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Background: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily pill that can reduce a person’s chances of acquiring HIV. HIV testing and counseling is a critical point during which non-clinical staff could intervene, discuss and/or refer clients for PrEP. However, not all HIV testing/counseling staff take part in PrEP implementation in the same way. This study investigated: 1) the underlying PrEP implementation subgroups of staff who perform HIV testing and 2) PrEP implementation as a function of key constructs from the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR).
Methods: This study was a mixed methods concurrent triangulation design, in which qualitative and quantitative …
Cooperation In Community Colleges, Frederic S. Gore
Cooperation In Community Colleges, Frederic S. Gore
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
With the mounting pressures on institutions of higher education to do more with limited resources, the opportunity to collaborate with other colleges has emerged as a viable tool to create efficiencies and obtain valuable knowledge otherwise unattainable by an institution, even if that collaboration takes place with a competing institution. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are critical to managing student information and college operations, but can be challenging for colleges to implement. Consortia present a unique solution to colleges to address gaps in their expertise and skills needed to achieve a successful ERP implementation. This study explores the factors that …
Cognitivism In School Psychologists’ Talk About Cultural Responsiveness: A Critical Discourse Analysis, Sujay Sabnis
Cognitivism In School Psychologists’ Talk About Cultural Responsiveness: A Critical Discourse Analysis, Sujay Sabnis
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Although there is an increase in publications on the topic of cultural responsiveness in school psychology, the research literature does not interrogate the discourse around cultural responsiveness and the modes of practices it enables. Using a preexisting dataset featuring interviews with 15 school psychologists, I analyzed the discursive formations characterizing the talk about cultural responsiveness. Data analysis using the critical discursive psychology framework illuminated the presence of cognitivism in participant talk. Critical discourse analysis drawing on Foucauldian theory of power effects revealed the ways in which cognitivism both enabled and constrained the discursive production of ‘culture’ and ‘cultural responsiveness’. Culture …
The Underutilized Tool Of Project Management - Emotional Intelligence, Gerald C. Lowe
The Underutilized Tool Of Project Management - Emotional Intelligence, Gerald C. Lowe
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Previous research has typically focused on singular attributes that impact a leader’s effectiveness. This study, instead, looks at whether emotional intelligence moderates the anticipated negative effect of distributed presence on engagement and influence, and ultimately, leader effectiveness. Buttressed by emotional intelligence, engagement, and influence theories, the research question focused on how emotional intelligence skills moderate the impact of a project manager’s distributed presence to render the leader effective. The study sample for this research came from voluntary participants who work for a U.S. government agency comprising leaders co-located with their teams and distributed presence leaders. Descriptive statistics showed that leaders …
Communication As Constitutive Of Organization: Practicing Collaboration In And English Language Program, Ariadne Miranda
Communication As Constitutive Of Organization: Practicing Collaboration In And English Language Program, Ariadne Miranda
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation is about collaboration as an organizational practice that is communicatively constituted. Specifically, I examine how members of a team in an English language program located in a large southeastern university in the United States make sense of what they define as a collaborative work environment and materialize it in their meetings in spoken and written discourse, and in their mention and use of organizational artifacts. Though the study examines the practices of one organizational setting, the insights generated illuminate broader organizational and discourse dynamics and speak to important issues in the discipline of communication such as authority, leadership, …
The Future Of Strategic Information And Cyber-Enabled Information Operations, Ben Hatch
The Future Of Strategic Information And Cyber-Enabled Information Operations, Ben Hatch
Journal of Strategic Security
To prepare for future challenges across the continuum of conflict, the United States (US) must optimize how it manages, counters, defends, and exploits the effects of information by organizing for strategic information and cyber-enabled information operations across and through multiple domains. Currently, information related capabilities are fielded across the United States Government (USG) among multiple organizations and agencies, and therefore lack efficiencies normally gained through combined action, unity of command, and unity of effort. In considering a solution to these challenges, this study examines historic and current examples of successful information operations to show organization matters, and reviews options to …
Organizational Innovations That Stick: Best Practices In Sustainable Organizational Change, Abdoulie Jammeh
Organizational Innovations That Stick: Best Practices In Sustainable Organizational Change, Abdoulie Jammeh
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Organizational change is an essential ingredient of organizational growth/life and can be difficult to accomplish. Many researchers and practitioners have studied the challenges and opportunities surrounding effectuating change and innovation in organizations. However, there has been little practical analysis of the theoretical relationships among the key apparatuses that make change stick, institutionalizing innovation in big bureaucratic organizations. In order to develop practical insights that can inform best practices, this paper aims to provide a collection of successful organizational innovation examples based on responses to a critical incident analysis survey of 12 participants from a 2018 World Bank – USC Annenberg …
Essential Leadership Skills For Frontline Managers In A Multicultural Organization, Janelle Ward
Essential Leadership Skills For Frontline Managers In A Multicultural Organization, Janelle Ward
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This exploratory research examined the leadership skills essential for frontline managers to be effective in a multicultural organization. The purpose was to inform company management of vital skills to include in a new leadership development program (LDP) initiative. The literature review revealed that a list of commonly accepted leadership skills does not exist. This research gap is even greater for multicultural environments. In addition to developing a list of skills, I assessed the impact of situational factors, including the scenario and demographics of the people involved, on perceived critical leadership skills.
I conducted a survey within the company of interest …
