Using Latent Class Analysis To Conceptualize Heterogeneity Among Non-Resident Parents With Current Child Support Orders And Arrears: Identifying Windows Of Opportunity, Victoria Adkins Charles
Using Latent Class Analysis To Conceptualize Heterogeneity Among Non-Resident Parents With Current Child Support Orders And Arrears: Identifying Windows Of Opportunity, Victoria Adkins Charles
Theses and Dissertations
Approximately 40% of children living in poverty are in a single parent household headed by their mother (Grall, 2017). The public child support services program exists to provide the service of establishing and enforcing child support orders for parents with primary legal custody of their child. Even with the child support services system in place, child support goes uncollected (Grall, 2020). Many of the non-resident parents (NRP) who are not paying live at poverty level as well. Child support research has focused primarily on NRPs’ ability to pay, but, generally, has drawn on the information contained in the constellation of …
Kim Kook Jin’S The Pieces Of Korean Melody For Piano: An Analysis Of Pedagogical Elements And Korean Folk Traditions, Seoyeon Carroll
Kim Kook Jin’S The Pieces Of Korean Melody For Piano: An Analysis Of Pedagogical Elements And Korean Folk Traditions, Seoyeon Carroll
Theses and Dissertations
In this era of increased globalization, our education system is actively embracing multiculturalism, with educators incorporating diverse perspectives into their classrooms. A noticeable trend among music educators is the introduction of compositions by non-white male composers at conferences and in educational publications. In fact, we can now find more pedagogical pieces featuring distinctive musical languages and cultural influences, marking a shift from the predominantly European tradition seen in the past.
However, there remains a limited number of pedagogical pieces that display the musical cultures of Asian countries. Particularly in Korea, it is extremely difficult to find compositions with Korean musical …

Thermodynamic Modeling Of Uranium Nitride With Select Actinides And Fission Products, Eric Reece Mcmanus
Thermodynamic Modeling Of Uranium Nitride With Select Actinides And Fission Products, Eric Reece Mcmanus
Theses and Dissertations
Uranium mononitride fuel is being investigated as a potential nuclear fuel for a Westinghouse lead-cooled fast reactor due to factors such as its high uranium density, high melting point, and favorable thermal conductivity. To obtain an understanding of the thermochemical behavior of UN fission products and minor actinides, thermodynamic data was obtained from various resources to create a database to represent the behavior of the fuel. This database was used to generate an Ellingham diagram to represent the relative thermodynamic stability of the phases over the reactor temperature range. A simulation was run computing the equilibrium state of the fuel, …
Bass-Triadic Cadence Formulae In Melchior Neusidler’S Original Compositions From Il Primo (-Secondo) Intabolatura Di Liuto, Christopher Mcdonald
Bass-Triadic Cadence Formulae In Melchior Neusidler’S Original Compositions From Il Primo (-Secondo) Intabolatura Di Liuto, Christopher Mcdonald
Theses and Dissertations
There was a paradigmatic shift in the discourse surrounding lute music between the early sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The lute treatises written by early sixteenth-century German lutenists, such as Hans Judenkünig, Hanse Gerle, and Hans Newsidler, focused on technical directives that support a linear conception of music. However, lutenists active in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century, such as Matthaeus Waissel and Jean-Baptiste Besard, describe technical accommodations for vertically conceived structures. Contemporaneously, at the turn of the seventeenth century, the discourse on bass primacy and triadic structures developed from an undercurrent, cast in the shadow of counterpoint treatises, to …

A Formative Process Evaluation Of Social Care Programming In A Health Care System Serving A Predominantly Rural State, Samuel Bethel
Theses and Dissertations
Health and social care continue to integrate, but relatively little is known about how social care is designed, implemented, and maintained across the health care continuum. This is especially true for health systems serving rural and under-resourced communities. To fill these gaps, this dissertation project applied formative process evaluation methods to a single case study of the largest health care system serving a predominantly rural state and its integrated social care programming. Data were collected from in-depth, semi-structured interviews following a purposeful and snowball sampling method among key informants for the design, implementation, and maintenance of social care programming as …

Uav-Based Tracking And Following Of Railroad Lines, Keith Michael Lewandowski
Uav-Based Tracking And Following Of Railroad Lines, Keith Michael Lewandowski
Theses and Dissertations
Given the pivotal role of the railroad industry in modern transportation and the potential risks associated with track malfunctions, the inspection and maintenance of railroad tracks emerges as a critical concern. While existing solutions excel in performing accurate measurements and detection, they often rely on large, expensive, and time-consuming platforms for inspections. This project, however, seeks to solve the same problem with the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), significantly reducing time and cost while maintaining detection capabilities. In particular, this solution is ideal for large-scale, high-level inspections following major events such as floods [6], hurricanes [7] or earthquakes …

Erodibility Of Sand-Silt-Xanthan Gum Mixtures, Edwin Kotey
Erodibility Of Sand-Silt-Xanthan Gum Mixtures, Edwin Kotey
Theses and Dissertations
The high frequency of earthen embankment failure recorded during floods has led to the general rule that embankments should not be overtopped. This notwithstanding, overtopping cannot be entirely avoided particularly during extreme events, such as winter storms and hurricanes. Reducing soil erodibility is thus fundamental to prevent and control disasters caused by embankment failure. Recent studies have explored the use of environmentally friendly additives, such as biopolymers, to improve soil properties. Geotechnical tests have shown that biopolymers can effectively increase soil strength, but little is known about biopolymer-treated soil resistance to erosion by flowing water. Results of flume experiments to …

Young adults with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) are less likely than young adults without disability to be employed, enrolled in postsecondary education, or live independently after high school (Lauer & Houtenville, 2017; Newman, et al., 2011). Self-determination, or the freedom to act as the primary causal agent in one’s life (Palmer & Wehmeyer, 1998), is a well-documented component of enhanced quality of life (Shogren et al., 2017) and a predictor of postschool success (Mazzotti et al., 2021; Test et al. 2009) for students with disabilities. People with IDD are less self-determined than their nondisabled peers, and often less self-determined …
The Gendered Patterns Of International Migration Systems: The Role Of Need For Care, Chang-Yi Lin
The Gendered Patterns Of International Migration Systems: The Role Of Need For Care, Chang-Yi Lin
Theses and Dissertations
The demand for feminized jobs in developed countries—e.g., care, domestic, and entertainment work—has provided women with an opportunity to work abroad independently. However, while numerous studies have discussed gendered opportunities and barriers to women’s migration, few studies have examined these correlates globally. According to traditional gender norms, one such potential barrier is women’s childcare responsibilities at home and, more specifically, the number of children who need to be cared for. Here it is argued that, contrary to men, the higher the number of children who need to be cared for in a given country, the more difficult it would be …

Dynamic Response Evaluation Of Loose Gravelly Soils In Centrifuge Modeling Experiments, Siwadol Dejphumee
Theses and Dissertations
Dynamic behavior of gravelly soil has gained more attention in recent years as several case histories of liquefaction of gravelly soil have been reported. Liquefaction can cause failure of infrastructure, leading to economic damage and loss of life. Gravelly soil has unique characteristics and engineering benefits, providing a prevalent and versatile construction material for various infrastructure projects. Therefore, understanding of the gravelly soil behavior under seismic load is critical for assessing the resilience of infrastructure located in seismically active regions. To date, only a few experimental research studies have focused on the dynamic response of gravelly soil, and these studies …
Maternal-Child Cortisol Attunement Differs In Preschoolers With Autism, Fragile X Syndrome, And Neurotypical Development, Rachel Hantman
Maternal-Child Cortisol Attunement Differs In Preschoolers With Autism, Fragile X Syndrome, And Neurotypical Development, Rachel Hantman
Theses and Dissertations
Early maternal-child attunement sets a critical foundation for later social development. While maternal and child cortisol attunement in neurotypical (NT) development has been clearly established, little research has examined these relations in neurodevelopmental populations, such as those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Fragile X Syndrome (FXS). Given their elevated-risk for disrupted maternal-child attunement and given elevated stress and dysregulated cortisol patterns in both children with ASD and FXS and their parents independently, this is a critical gap. This study addressed this gap in the literature by examining early maternal-child cortisol attunement in 97 mother-child dyads (nNT = …

To this end, rhetoric offers audience-focused methods …
Statistical Inference Based On Elliptically Symmetric Distributions For Directional Data, Zehao Yu
Statistical Inference Based On Elliptically Symmetric Distributions For Directional Data, Zehao Yu
Theses and Dissertations
Directional data arise in many scientific fields such as meteorology, oceanography, geology, zoology, and biomechanics. Geometrically, directional data lie in a spherical space. Although not in a spherical space, compositional data, such as microbiome data, can be mapped from a simplex to a spherical space via the component-wise square-root transformation. Other examples where compositional data emerge as a subject of interest include compositions of minerals in rocks, compositions of chemical mixtures, investment portfolios, and demographic composition of a population. This dissertation aims to develop inference procedures for analyzing directional data in general initially, with later focus shifted to the transformed …
Molecular And Hybrid Catalysts For Selective Hydrodeoxygenation Of Lignin Model Compounds, Jacob G. Tillou
Molecular And Hybrid Catalysts For Selective Hydrodeoxygenation Of Lignin Model Compounds, Jacob G. Tillou
Theses and Dissertations
Lignin is a highly aromatic, branched polymer and could be utilized as a renewable source of liquid fuel. The advent of “lignin-first” depolymerization processes have allowed for the high-yield isolation of oxygenated aromatic monomers from lignin. These oxygenated aromatic compounds are lower in energy and stability than their deoxygenated counterparts. Selective deoxygenation of these compounds would result in stable, higher value liquid fuels. Using molecular catalysts, selective deoxygenation, or hydrodeoxygenation (HDO), of lignin-derived compounds in the presence of hydrogen is possible.
Immobilization of these molecular catalysts on metal oxide surfaces eliminates the possibility of bimolecular decomposition and allows for easier …
