An Investigation Into The In-Service Training Of The Teachers In Providence, Rhode Island, Dorothy Mary Alexander

In the past few years it has become the responsibility of most public school teachers in Rhode Island to find ways of accumulating six credit points in order to satisfy a state certification renewal requirement. A number of teachers participate in appropriate work conferences, serve on committees for their school department, assume leadership in professional organizations, or are active in community affairs. Although these activities may enhance their professional prestige, they carry little or no certification credit value.

The Herring Of Block Island Sound, Howard Lawrence Sanders

The objectives of this study were to observe the location of the herring catches in Block Island Sound, to perform racial analyses on the fish, and to study the stomach contents both quantitatively and qualitatively. Periodic trips were made on a commercial fishing vessel in Block Island Sound during the winter of 1951 to gather biological data.

This investigation established that herring are to be found in Block Island Sound from about the first of January to the middle of March; that the shoals are made up of two groups, spent adults and immature adolescents; that during January and February …

This is a study of the effect which crop plants have on the growth and yields of those crops which follow. The study began in 1907; this bulletin reports the results from 1930 to 1942. Millet, mangels and rutabagas generally seem to be harmful to crops which follow them. Carrots, mangels and millet were least favorable of all crops to mangels. Potatoes did poorest when following potatoes, rutabagas, or millet. Rutabagas yielded low following rutabagas, mangels and millet. Onions were unfavorably affect by preceding crops of mangels, cabbage, or rutabagas. There is no simple explanation for the effect of crops …

Comparative Physiology And Pathogenicity Of Eight Isolates Of Ceratostomella Ulmi, Lafayette Frederick

Open Access Master's Theses

Eight isolates of Ceratostomella ulmi exhibiting distinctive cultural variations were assembled for comparative studies of physiological and pathogenic differences. These isolates originated from cultures taken from diseased trees in several geographical areas. The principal objectives of the investigation were to determine (a) the relationship of certain physiological variations among the eight isolates of C. ulmi to toxin production, (b) the extent or pathogenic specialization among C. ulmi isolates, and (c) the relationship between observed physiological variations and pathogenicity.
