Glucose-Mediated Catabolite Repression Of The Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle As An Explanation For Increased Acetic Acid Production In Suicidal Aeromonas Strains, Hassan Namdari, Victor J. Cabelli
Glucose-Mediated Catabolite Repression Of The Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle As An Explanation For Increased Acetic Acid Production In Suicidal Aeromonas Strains, Hassan Namdari, Victor J. Cabelli
Past Departments Faculty Publications (CELS)
Growth in the presence of glucose, even under highly aerobic conditions, significantly reduced the activities of three tricarboxylic acid cycle enzymes, citrate synthetase, α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, and malate dehydrogenase, in suicidal but not nonsuicidal Aeromonas strains. Pyruvate dehydrogenase activity, however, was significantly increased. The activities of all of the enzymes, as well as the glucose-mediated increase in acetic acid production, were shown to be regulated by catabolite repression. The regulator protein is the same one which regulates the utilization of several sugars.

Fisheries Development And Its Role For Alleviating Nutritional Deficiency In Mauritania, Dia Mamadou Abdoul
Fisheries Development And Its Role For Alleviating Nutritional Deficiency In Mauritania, Dia Mamadou Abdoul
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
Security of food supply is one of the greatest problems that Mauritania continues to face. Fisheries development, both artisanal and industrial, has the potential of providing an increased and reliable low-cost source of animal protein and it could also help to alleviate the problems of the agricultural sector. The main focus of this paper will be upon fisheries development in Mauritania and how it may contribute to alleviating malnutrition. The examination of Mauritania's fisheries policy, the significance of the political and economic context in which fishing policy was formulated, the effects that these different policies have on Mauritania's overall development …

Neither Motility Nor Chemotaxis Plays A Role In The Ability Of Escherichia Coli F-18 To Colonize The Streptomycin-Treated Mouse Large Intestine, Beth A. Mccormick, David C. Laux, Paul S. Cohen
Past Departments Faculty Publications (CELS)
Escherichia coli F-18, isolated from the feces of a healthy human in 1977, is an excellent colonizer of the streptomycin-treated mouse large intestine and displays normal motility and chemotaxis ability. A chemotaxis-defective derivative of E. coli F-18, E, coli F-18 CheA-, and a nonflagellated derivative, E. coli F-18 Fla-, were constructed. These strains were found to colonize the streptomycin-treated mouse large intestine as well as E. coli F-18 when mice were fed both E. coli F-18 and either the CheA- or Fla- derivative at high levels (1010 CFU of each strain per mouse) …

Formulation Of A Management Scheme For The Swordfish Fishery Of The Eastern Caribbean, Harold F. Upton
Formulation Of A Management Scheme For The Swordfish Fishery Of The Eastern Caribbean, Harold F. Upton
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
During the 1983 season, two U.S. longline vessels initiated the first attempts at the commercial exploitation of swordfish in the Eastern Caribbean. In 1986, the number of U.S. vessels participating in the fishery surpassed 40 with landings of nearly two million pounds per season. The sudden influx of participants and technology to the region has resulted in a variety of user conflicts and associated policy issues. Major areas of concern involve the conservation of a heavily exploited resource and the distribution of benefits which accrue from resource exploitation among the resource-adjacent island states and U.S. fishing operations. This study examines …
