Is Kamala Brat? Counteracting Persuasion Resistance With Authenticity On Tiktok, Shannon Pappas, Anne Oeldorf-Hirsch, Bailey Quigley

TikTok is the social media app most frequented by Gen Z, yet political candidates have struggled to connect with this audience. However, Kamala Harris’ 2024 U.S. presidential campaign has changed how political candidates interact with potential voters. Through unconventional memes and viral moments, she has connected to Gen Z like no other candidate before her. Based on Persuasion Knowledge Model, an online, between-subjects quasi-experimental survey exposed Gen Z participants (N = 370) to three KamalaHQ TikTok videos employing a combination of TikTok (e.g., trending music, humor) and political campaign strategies (e.g., campaign ad). Organizations frequently incorporate explicit diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements and photographs of current employees into their online presence, in part to signal to potential job applicants their ability to ‘fit in’ to the organization, its culture, and its extant members. This two-factor (match between organizational DEI statement and racioethnic diversity of members depicted) experiment (N = 105) tested the effect of diversity mixed messages on applicant perceptions of person-organization fit, accounting for the moderating effects of individuals’ demographics (i.e., race/gender and political lean). Ideological Women And Pursuit Of Political Attitude And Opinion Change In Serial Arguments Within Heterosexual Marriage, Jayne R. Goode, Kendra Knight

Despite the present state of political animus in the U.S., relatively little research has examined how spousal political differences along ideological lines influence marital communication and conflict. This study examines wives’ perception of marital political conflict from the lens of serial arguments. Using a national sample of heterosexual married women, we examine interrelationships among perceived spousal ideological conflict and serial argument goals. We find that both wife’s own political ideology and wife’s perception of husband’s political ideology influence pursuit of serial argument goals. This article reports the findings of a study exploring liar stereotypes held by college participants who are Deaf. Inspired by the findings of the Global Deception Research Team’s (2006) study on liar stereotypes across the globe, the authors conducted an exploration of beliefs about liars in a sample of college students who are Deaf and hard of hearing in the United States. For comparison purposes, a hearing sample of college students was also surveyed about their beliefs on this topic. Miscarriage is a deeply stigmatized and emotionally complex experience, often leaving individuals feeling isolated and unsupported. Increasingly, people turn to online communities for connection and assistance after miscarriage, and this has been the focus of research for a while. However, little is known about how they seek support in the presence of anonymity. This study examines the strategies people use to seek social support in the r/Miscarriage subreddit, addressing a gap in both health and communication scholarship. The question this thesis aims to answer is, what power dynamics influence the political behavior of working-class people? Rather than assuming that the working-class has certain interests or should behave in certain ways, this question needs to be answered by looking into how the working-class themselves describe their interests and needs, along with understanding why and how they decide to act or not to act upon those interests and needs. Perceptions Of Money In Politics: Analyzing The Connection Between Knowledge Of Congressional Campaign Fundraising And Political Trust In The United States, Catriona Schmadeke

This study focuses on the link between knowledge of campaign finance and trust held by Americans in political institutions and members of Congress. The existing literature on the topic suggests that knowing that a congressional candidate has accepted large donations may harm political trust. A self-administered online survey was used to examine the connection between perceptions of congressional campaign funding and political trust. The survey results demonstrate a significant relationship between trust and perceptions about campaign fundraising. Specifically, the more money that the average congressional candidate was believed to have raised is associated with lower levels of trust in Congress. …

As social media increasingly becomes incorporated in many daily routines of adolescents, there is a growing concern about the psychological impacts associated with problematic social media use. This research study explores the relationship between social media habits and mental health outcomes among adolescents. The research found by conducting a comprehensive literature review indicates associations between problematic social media use and mental health outcomes including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and poor sleep quality. Mapping The Geography Of Economic Espionage In The United States (2000–2025): An Applied Counterintelligence And Spatial Analysis, David A. Turner

This Graduate Research Project examines whether economic espionage incidents within the United States exhibit structured geographic patterns aligned with innovation ecosystem density. Using a verified dataset of 135 publicly documented economic espionage and foreign-linked trade secret theft cases between 2000 and 2025, this study applies Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis to evaluate spatial concentration, sectoral prioritization, and foreign nexus distribution.

Kernel Density Estimation and state-level aggregation reveal disproportionate clustering within innovation-dense regions, including California, New York, and major Midwestern industrial corridors. Aerospace and defense technologies, energy technologies, and semiconductors and microelectronics collectively account for 55.6 percent of all documented cases. …

Speleothems are widely used as paleoclimate archives, as they preserve geochemical records of environmental change through groundwater feeding. In regions like Mammoth Cave National Park, these records could be used to determine the position of the Laurentide Ice Sheet based on hydrologic changes. This study uses detached flowstone samples, known as float, from the New Discovery flowstone within Mammoth Cave to assess calcite preservation and the feasibility of accurate age dating to record paleoclimate information. Samples were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence to determine elemental composition and were prepared as petrographic thin sections for microscopic analysis. Traditional filmmaking has been around since the late nineteenth century, where filmmakers would utilize black and white film and tedious developing processes, including the manual handling of chemicals, to create a feature film. Shortly after the turn of the twentieth century, the first few 2D animated films came to life. Adolescent suicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents in the U.S. and is a growing public health concern. Schools are often the most accessible way for students to access mental health support. This makes them uniquely positioned to intervene when a student is experiencing suicidal ideation. Schools are a key environment for implementing suicide prevention strategies and providing education on suicide and depression. This qualitative study examines the foci and characteristics of health-related TikTok videos users find memorable. Specifically, this analysis applies the theory of memorable messages to understand what types of health-related messages on social media are memorable to users and the impact of these messages on health-related behaviors. Participants included college students who use TikTok and recalled a memorable health-related TikTok video. Participants identified (a) exercise and fitness, (b) nutrition and diet, and (c) mental health as the most common memorable health-related topics in TikTok videos.
