For the past fifteen years the writer has been interested in sod webworms and their parents the Crambid moths. During this period'": light trap and field collections have resulted in the building of a. fairly complete collection of the moths of the genus Crambus that are found in Iowa.

A Rare Variant Of Pollenia Rudis, The Iowa Winter House-Fly, David T. Jones

Several specimens of Pollenia rudis (Fab.) were taken by the author and Glenn Primmer Jr., between Vinton and Garrison, Iowa, on July 5, 1941, following a cold rain and hail storm. These had been observed prior to the storm on white sweet-clover along the railroad track, but were so active as to elude the net. Benumbed by the storm, several specimens were secured by sweeping the wet sweet-clover.

Mona Van Duyn graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (ISTC) in 1942 with three majors: English, Speech, and French. More importantly, she began to take herself seriously as a poet at ISTC. She often made the three-mile walk west of Cedar Falls to visit poet James Hearst. After college, and a Master's Degree from the University of Iowa, Van Duyn went on to teach at the University of Louisville, and Washington University in St. Louis. She has won every major U.S. poetry prize, including the National Book Award and the Pulitzer. UNI awarded her an Honorary Doctor of Literature Degree …
