Twenty-five percent of women in the United States will report some form of intimate partner violence (IPV) within their lifetimes (Mac, Ferron, & Crosby, 2009). At these rates, IPV has become an epidemic, touching the lives of most people. The effects of lPV on victim's physical and psychological health may be severe and chronic (Weaver & Clum, 1995). Finding potent therapy approaches with this population is essential. The author of this paper proposes forgiveness therapy as an approach worthy of further investigation. Creating Family Through Foster-Adoption: Media Portrayal Of The Foster Care System In The U.S., Kimberly A. Powell

Iowa Journal of Communication

As adoption has gained attention in the media, the focus tends to have been on international and private adoptions, and less on adoption from foster care. When the focus is on foster care, the coverage is most often negative, which is perhaps why there are less adoptions from foster care than there are private and international adoptions. This study of mainstream newspaper coverage of United States foster care adoption from 1992-2005 explores how themes in the media have resulted in a narrow view of foster care and adoption.

Electronic Portfolios : Tools For Authenic Formative Assessment, Melissa Yocum

Graduate Research Papers

The culture of students is ever changing. Teachers are struggling to find ways to meet the needs of different learning styles and levels. Assessment for learning is the current buzz statement in education. This review examines using electronic portfolios as tools for assessing learning. This paper examines how electronic portfolios can be used as an assessment for learning tool that engages students in their own learning. The review found that electronic portfolios can be used as an assessment-for-learning tool, but more evidence is needed to determine whether it should be the sole means of learning assessment.
