Health Knowledge And Health Behavior Of Deaf Adults In Black Hawk County, Iowa, Leslie Ellen Smith

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the present health knowledge and health behavior of deaf adults in Black Hawk County, Iowa. In addition, the relationship between knowledge and behavior was examined. It was hypothesized that health knowledge and health behavior would be positively correlated.

A list of deaf adults was compiled through contacts with public and private agencies serving the deaf. Subjects received an introductory letter and response form by mail with subsequent telephone follow-up. Twenty-three deaf adults participated in the study representing 21% of the known, non-institutionalized deaf adults in the county. Participants were interviewed with …

This study was designed to describe the motivational strategies being used by corporations to encourage and/or maintain employee participation in health promotion programs. A questionnaire was designed and mailed to 170 members of the Association for Fitness in Business working in corporate health promotion facilities. Subjects were asked their subjective opinion concerning motivational strategy use and effectiveness, important considerations in motivational strategy development and which strategies had been objectively evaluated, and what were the outcomes of those evaluations. The purpose of this study was to describe the different components of the pre-season conditioning program of men's basketball programs at selected NCAA Division I universities in the United States. The universities chosen for this study included the top 100 ranked teams in the final 1988 Dunkel computer basketball rankings. The average won-loss record of the participating universities in this study for the 1988 season was 23-10.

A questionnaire was constructed that included sections on general background information, conditioning and running components, strength conditioning components, and flexibility conditioning components. This questionnaire was used as the tool for collecting data. Of …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current exercise habits of those Luther College alumni who participated in "Fitness For Life" (FFL) as compared to those students who participated in the activity-based (AB) physical education classes. Inherent sub-problems investigated included the following: 1. The effect of length of time since graduation on current exercise habits. 2. A description of the incidence of participation in selected aerobic activities, strength and/or conditioning activities, and recreational activities. 3. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of elementary teachers who were perceived and identified as being influential in curricular change by peers, principals, and district administrators. The study described characteristics which appeared to be shared by 16 elementary teachers selected from 20 elementary schools in one major school district in a Midwestern state.

Subjects were identified from responses by peers, building administrators, and district administrators to the Instructional Leadership Survey prepared by the researcher. Relationships Among Adolescents’ Sexual Knowledge, Attitudes, Behaviors And Educational Aspirations, Sandra Appleby Kahler

This study investigated relationships among adolescent 's sexual knowledge, sexual attitudes, communication about sexuality, reported contraceptive behavior, and educational aspirations of junior/senior high school students. A survey which included questions from Kirby's (1984) instruments was administered to 177 students attending a rural mid-western high school. Data were analyzed using chi-square, analysis of variance, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. Statistical significance was reached for five of the eleven hypotheses tested. A higher degree of sexual knowledge was positively associated with both student's use of effective birth control and their educational aspirations. Premarital sexual behavior was less likely to occur with students reporting …

The Katyn Forest Massacre is not the most widely discussed issue of the Second World War. Few Americans today could spell the word "Katyn," let alone enter into any lengthy discourse on the issue. But in 1943 the Katyn affair was perceived as so great a threat to the war effort that the Roosevelt Administration worked diligently to keep the issue from gaining too much publicity. And in 1951-52 Congress believed Katyn to be an issue of such .magnitude that a select committee was formed to investigate the matter. People in this country are living longer because of better nutrition, better health practices and better medical technologies. In the late 1700's, 2 percent of the population of the United States, or about 50, 000 persons, were 65 years of age or older. In 1900, 4 percent, or about 3.1 million persons were older Americans, and in 1980, the census revealed that there were more than. 11 percent, or about 25.5 million persons 65 years old or older. The divorce rate of parents with school age children is increasing at an alarming rate. The divorce rate has more than doubled from 1965 to 1975 involving over 60 percent with children (Damon, 1979). In 1981 there were 1,180,000 children affected by divorce, accounting for 20 percent of student enrollment (Cantraell, 1986; Drake, 1981). Silvern (1985) projected that by 1990, 32 percent of American children may face a divorce in their family. These startling statistics have caused educators to examine the effects that divorce can have on student achievement.
