Ways To Use The Overhead Projector, Bert A. Murphy
Ways To Use The Overhead Projector, Bert A. Murphy
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The overhead projector, a familiar sight in many science rooms, can be used in a number of interesting ways. In chemistry, I use the overhead to demonstrate reaction rates of metals in acids. Just put your beakers (labeled with wax pencil on the bottom) on the overhead and watch the reactions take place on the wall. You can, also, demonstrate titration end points with the overhead. The colored indicators show up nicely.

Engel Conditions On Groups, Donald H. Pilgrim
Engel Conditions On Groups, Donald H. Pilgrim
Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science
Let g,c denote positive integers. A group is said to have type (gāc) if every subgroup which can be generated by g elements is nilpotent of class at most c. A result of R. H. Bruck shows that groups of type (4ā5) without elements of order 2 are nilpotent of class at most 7. In the present paper the following result is reported: If G is a (4ā5) group on 5 generators without elements of order 2, then G is nilpotent of class at most 6.

Some Short-Cut Adaptations Of Complex Numbers In Intermediate Physics, Wendell G. Bradley, Robert E. Crow
Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science
A few expedient, useful and well known, but seldom fully utilized adaptations of complex numbers are developed. These should interest teachers and students of intermediate physics courses.
The Use Of A Thermochemical Experiment In An Introductory Science Class, Verne A. Troxel
The Use Of A Thermochemical Experiment In An Introductory Science Class, Verne A. Troxel
Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science
An experimental method for determining heat of neutralization, in introductory science classes, with simple laboratory equipment is described. Measured values for heat of neutralization determined by this method are compared with the literature values. The experimental method used offers a suitable means for the determination of heat of neutralization.

Team Oriented Research In The High School, D. N. West
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The purpose of this article is to describe a method used by the author to introduce a group of high school students to the research method. The initial search of literature and type of experimentation always require much expenditure of time and effort. Beyond a doubt the most consuming part of the entire investigation is verification of data obtained.

The trend in secondary biology is to use living material in so far as it is possible. Biology instruction, as it has advanced beyond the descriptive level, has included more projects requiring living animals. The local collecting and culturing of some of these organisms adds just that much more biological experience to the course.
